QUALIFICATION (a) Eligibility In order to be eligible to participate in the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games, athletes must: (1) meet the performance standards prescribed by the Qualification System; (2) meet the age eligibility requirements prescribed by the Qualification System; (3) meet and continue to observe the eligibility requirements for Australian competitors described in the Olympic Charter; (4) meet the age eligibility requirements which is male athletes born 1996 (15 or 16 years at time of competition) and female players born in 1994 (17 or 18 years) of age at time of competition. (b) IF Qualification System 1. The 15 male and 15 female athletes (from a nation not competing in either the men’s or women’s team tournaments) selected as the top athletes in their category from the Global Qualifying Round of the Skills Challenge will qualify to compete in the individual skills challenge at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games. 2. NOMINATION BY ICE HOCKEY AUSTRALIA 1. In order to be nominated by Ice Hockey Australia for selection to the 2012 Australian Winter Youth Olympic Team, each Athlete must participate in the WYOG-2012 Skills Testing Program as designed by IIHF. The testing program is based on actual skills that a player uses when playing the sport. In order to determine which Australian athletes participate in the Global Qualifying Round of the 2012 Winter YOG Skills Testing Program athletes must achieve the highest score in the national selection event. The IIHF Skills Test Manual and Test Results Sheet are attached (as Annexure 1). The 2012 Testing Program will be used to determine the national winner. Athletes will be provided sufficient on-ice practice time prior to the final testing taking place. 2. State Selections – Each state will call for expressions of interest and will submit these to the IHA Office by COB the 01st December 2010. 3. National Selections – If more than one expression of interest is submitted from the States, a National Selection event will be held during IHA’s 2011 National Bantam Camp in Newcastle, NSW from 9th to 16th January 2011. IHA will pay flights (if required), ground transport from Sydney Airport & return, including accommodation and meals for all state selected athletes to attend the National Bantam Camp. 4. At the conclusion of the National Selection event, the male and female athlete with the highest scores achieved at the national selection event will be submitted to the IIHF by 1st April 2011. 5. IHA will make arrangements for the nominated players to attend the Global Qualifying Round of the Skills Challenge during the IIHF’s Player Development Camp in Vierumäki, Finland scheduled for the 02 – 10th July 2011. The domestic and international flight costs for attending this event will be at the expense of IHA Timing Ice Hockey Australia will nominate athletes for selection to the AOC by the COB 15th July 2011. 3. SELECTION BY THE AOC In order to be selected by the AOC as a member of the 2012 Australian Winter Youth Olympic Team, each Athlete must: (1) have been nominated by Ice Hockey Australia and the International Ice Hockey Federation for selection by the AOC in accordance with Clause 2 of these Guidelines; (2) have signed (or if a minor, parent or guardian have signed) the 2012 Australian Winter Youth Olympic Team Membership Agreement and agree to sign any entry form required by the IOC and the Organising Committee for the 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games; (3) have observed and continue to observe the provisions of the AOC’s Constitution and its by-laws (as applicable) and must not have breached the AOC’s Anti-Doping By-Law unless the athlete has already been sanctioned for the breach and has completed the sanction imposed. A copy of AOC By-Laws are available from olympics.com.au; (4) undergo medical assessment and testing (if requested) to the complete satisfaction of the AOC; (5) have disclosed information to the Athlete’s NF or the AOC concerning any conduct that might breach the code of conduct required of Athletes selected to an Australian Winter Youth Olympic Team under the 2012 Australian Winter Youth Olympic Team Membership Agreement. (6) acknowledges that any matter arising under clauses (1) – (5) above is to be determined, or breach thereof excused, by the AOC in its sole and absolute discretion. If, in the opinion of the AOC, an Athlete fails to comply with one or more of the requirements in (1) – (6) above, that Athlete will be ineligible for selection by the AOC. Ice Hockey Australia will nominate athletes to the AOC for selection to the 2012 Australian Winter Youth Olympic Team. The AOC has the sole and absolute discretion: (1) to determine whether an Athlete (or team where applicable) has met the requirements of selection; (2) to determine whether or not it should select the maximum number of Athletes (or teams where applicable) permitted by the Qualification System, notwithstanding the number of Athletes who may have met the requirements of selection and/or the Qualification System. 4. PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS (1) It is an IOC requirement that Athletes attend the 2012 Youth Olympic Games for the entire period of the Games 13 – 22 January 2012 (inclusive). (2) It is an IOC requirement that Athletes participate in the Culture and Education Sessions organised by the Innsbruck Winter Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee during the Winter Youth Olympic Games. 5. NON-COMPLIANCE If an Athlete breaches any of the requirements of the Nomination and Selection criteria, the AOC may suspend or terminate the Athlete’s selection to the Team or otherwise impose a sanction prescribed by the disciplining procedures set out in the AOC 2012 WYOG Team Membership Agreement. .
