This is the best edition of Xenozoic Tales ever put together. Its better than past reprint/trades and even better than the original comics. Pages are nice and white and the black line work leaps off the page! The only drawback is its a tad heavy. This edition is a true reprint of the original, meaning its in black and white. (If youre looking for colorized editions I believe those were released as Cadillacs and Dinosaurs.)As for the content, XT is a throwback to the great EC comics of the 1950s. It starts off as an homage to the great Wally Wood. It perfectly employs his rendering, layouts, and pacing. This is by no means a long, drawn out (bloated) story. It has continuity throughout but each story stands on its own. Later in the run, Schultz becomes influenced by the great Al Williamson which, hard to believe, makes the art even better!Storywise, this is a dystopian future where dinosaurs roam the land and technology is basically that of the 1950s (Shultz has a fetish for Cadillacs of that era). The adventures are clever, quick paced, and enjoyable. The main hero and heroine have that classic will they, wont they approach to their romantic relationship. The bad news is that this run is only 14 issues long. But the GREAT news is that Schultz says hes coming back for more!If you like great comic art and smooth writing, this is for you! My schedule for the second half of the spring semester is loaded up front. So I’ve decided to move my catalog release up a couple of weeks to avoid conflicts with papers, presentations, tests, and the like. Kane 2013 i ABSTRACT This dissertation explores ways in which the graphic narrative (graphic novel) format for storytelling, known as sequential art, can be adapted for undergraduate-level introductory textbooks across disciplines. Currently, very few graphic textbooks exist, and many of them lack the academic rigor needed to give them credibility. My goal in this dissertation is to examine critically both the strengths and weaknesses of this art form and formulate a set of standards and procedures necessary for developing new graphic textbooks that are scholastically viable for use in college-level instruction across disciplines. To the ends of establishing these standards, I have developed a four-pronged information-gathering approach. First I read as much pre factum qualitative and quantitative data from books, articles, and Internet sources as possible in order to establish my base of inquiry. Second, I created a twelve-part dissertation blog (graphictextbooks.blogspot.com) where I was able to post my findings and establish my integrity for my research among potential interviewees. Third, I interviewed 16 professional graphic novel/graphic textbook publishers, editors, writers, artists, and scholars as well as college professors and librarians. Finally, I sent out an online survey consisting of a sample chapter of an existing graphic textbook to college professors and asked if the content of the source material was potentially effective for their own instruction in undergraduate teaching.

I’ve been meaning to put out a new flyer for a couple of weeks, but something or other kept getting in the way. I am back in nursing school in what will, hopefully, be my last semester. I began critical care nursing about two weeks ago and should be getting ready for my first test, but books are part of my life too. Although I shipped a good number of books in late December and early January, including the long- awaiting COMPLIMENTS OF THE DOMINO LADY, January has been a fairly quiet month for new arrivals. Both Black Coat Press’ ARTAHE: THE LEGACY OF JULES DE GRANDIN and Wheatland Press’ ALL STAR ZEPPELIN ADVENTURE STORIES arrived around the end of this past week. I will be shipping them in the next few days. A new HIGH ADVENTURE and Bold Venture’s SPIDER #7 also arrived. A sample of a very interesting item, a new fanzine about sword and sorcery, published by James Van Hise, was delivered just yesterday. You’ll read more about it below.
