The Society Mifflinburg and the West End is dedicated to enhancing the appreciation and visibility of Union County history, and to that end, it September 16, 1-2:30 PM collects, preserves, and interprets historical sites, A Titanic Event artifacts, and materials related to the history of Union County. Diane Meixell, Secretary The Union County Historical Kim Ranck, Treasurer Society has done a great job of David Goehring collecting, caring for, making available, Tom Greaves and interpreting the county!s history to M. Lois Huffines residents and visitors of all ages Sharon Lynch through its school tours, regularly Duain Shaw scheduled programs, exhibits, Gary Spangler symposia, special events like Rural Mary Jo Spangler Heritage Days and Black History Month, workshops, and Jeffrey Spotts publications. We have a publishing history since 1968 Steve Wilver second to none in the Commonwealth. The courthouse office, staffed by a combination of paid personnel, volunteers, and Bucknell interns, is home to Welcome New Members a wide variety of original documents, microfilmed material, who have joined since January 2012 printed reference material, hundreds of oral history/tradition Timothy Bittner, Lewisburg, PA tapes, and images, for those researching on site or from a Louise Clapp, Aguilar, CO distance. No admission fee. On Friday, August 17, 6:30 PM Lecture and Demonstration by "Chemist Joseph Priestly" Ron Blatchley as Joseph Priestly, the Discoverer of Oxygen, will talk about science c. 1793. Abstract Ancient hoops, usually made of wood or metal, do not survive archaeologically, but literary and iconographic representations provide information regarding the materials used, ergonomics, as well as their symbolic and cultural values. Hoops were intimately associated with youth, especially male, and this paper aims at expanding the understanding of their collective, social and religious dimensions for boys and young men. In ancient Greece, the hoop was used in physical training at the palaestra and in the gymnasium. In Rome, it was associated with an idealized image of Greek athleticism and used in public spaces, such as the Campus Martius.
