The harvest is one of the most significant times in the year of the vineyard. A day of true escapism awaits you at Denbies; experience first hand a snapshot of the life of the grape. This is a rewarding and informative day, gaining an appreciation of English agriculture and production. Included in your day – grape picking tuition, lunch, afternoon in winery, wine tasting CHEESE AND WINE MAKING EXPERIENCE £79.50 per person Learn all about cheese making with local Norbury Blue cheese maker at their dairy located in Mickleham, followed by an insight into wine making with Denbies wine specialist. Full refreshments provided throughout the day. Transfers, lunch and wine tasting included. BIRDS OF PREY DISPLAY AND HANDLING EXPERIENCE Price on Request dependant on length of activity A tailor-made experience, ideal for client entertainment or staff motivation. A bird of prey handling event is a great way to offer your clients or staff a fun and relaxing experience in surroundings so very different from the office. You and your guests could be watching the speeding falcon stoop to the lure, handling and flying hawks, buzzards and owls to your gloved hands, holding an eagle or feeding a vulture. The display team includes ferrets and native birds of prey so that people get the opportunity to see up close those birds that they may have seen from afar in the wild. This tour presents perfect photo opportunities together with detailed information on the vineyard and the vine growing process. Denbies Classic Indoor Wine Experience 360º cinema tour, guided tour through the working winery, followed by a tasting of 3 of Denbies award winning wines in the Denbies cellar. OPTION II - £30 PER PERSON (All events last approximately 1 ½ - 2hrs) Cellar Tasting & Canapé Reception; Hosted in the magnificent vaulted cellar - a selected tasting of six of Denbies award winning sparkling and still wines hosted by Denbies WSET Wine Expert. Canapés will be served to accompany the tasting. Tasting notes and guidelines will also be provided. Blind Wine Tasting & Canapé Reception; Hosted in the Denbies Cellar by Denbies WSET Expert, compare a tasting of 6 wines, 3 from Denbies/3 from Europe. Canapes will be served to accompany the wine. Recipe and guidelines will also be provided OPTION III - £39.50 PER PERSON (All events last approximately 2 ½ hrs) Wine Quiz Wine tasting followed by wine quiz where participants will have the opportunity to call the bluff of the experts. You have entered the Ultra, our 60km off road running challenge. The point to point route is from Haslemere to Dorking along the Greensand Way with a 12 hour cut off period. The postcode to find the start is GU27 2AS, and there will be yellow directional signage to help you find us. Parking is free on Sundays and there are a number of car parks to choose from. In the main centre of Haslemere, you can park at the High Street pay and display car park or at the Chestnut Avenue pay and display car park (better for longer periods). If you want to park close to the train station, or park for a long period of time during the day, Tanners Lane and Weydown Road pay and display car parks are close to the station. Woodland, hills, views In Brief This is a bracing walk with good long stretches that take you far from the starting point to distant parts, but always along good wide paths that make the going easy. This walk is a good winter walk because the views are enhanced. There are no nettles. However, in the wetter months there may be some muddy patches, so boots are a must. Most of this trail is ideal for dogs, with no main road crossings and only one or two small fields of livestock. There are no cafés or pubs en route but Bockett’s Farm, near the start, has an excellent tea room. The walk can be split into two different shorter walks, a northern walk covering Fetcham Downs and Norbury Park (7 km=4½ miles) and a southern walk over Denbies Hillside and Ranmore Common (7½ km=5 miles). The full walk and the northern walk begin at the small free car park in Fetcham close to the Bockett’s Farm roundabout, nearest postcode KT22 9BW , grid ref TQ 150 549.

High hills, green slopes, views, village, woodland trail, vineyard trail, long climb with steps In Brief This walk was originally done to work off the Christmas excesses and it did the job magnificently. The two beauty spots that feature here seem to be so well known, but somehow the walk shows up a number of surprises, so that you may feel that you are discovering something completely new. In the tradition of walks on this site, the route takes some unusual paths, familiar to locals but less known outside the area. The last stretch includes a bridge over the Mole, followed by a very long series of steps: not for the faint-hearted! Starting on the top of Box Hill gives you a good chance for an early snack and a refresher at the end and makes sure you don’t opt out of the steepest part of the walk. But you could equally well start at Denbies Hillside (begin from section 5 ) with the idea of a lunch break on Box Hill.

    Islington U3A Longer Walking Group Walk Guildford to Gomshall or Westhumble Walk No. 151 Area North Downs (Surrey) Type Linear Date Thursday 3rd August 2017 Distance 7 miles, 11 or 14 miles (you can choose on the day). The 11 mile option will require you to complete the last 2 miles without the leader (unless no-one wants to do the full walk), but it’s straightforward and I’ll provide a note giving directions. Timing Between 3½ and up to 7 hours walking time, depending which option you choose. So you can plan to get back to London any time from about 5.30 pm onwards. Those doing the full 14 miles should not expect to arrive home before about 7.30 pm. Meeting up Meet at Waterloo mainline station outside the main ticket office by and travel 09.30am with train ticket, to catch the 09.45 South West trains service to Guildford. Journey time is about 35 minutes. You can catch the train at Clapham Junction (09.52) if you wish. Please let me know if you plan to do so. It does not stop at Vauxhall. Best ticket option is an Off-Peak Day Return from the Zone 6 boundary station (Surbiton) to Gomshall, but make sure you get it via Guildford. The cost quoted on the website with a Senior Railcard is £6.45. There are two trains an hour back from Gomshall to London (the quicker one via Guildford, the other via Dorking). There is also a half- hourly service from Box Hill & Westhumble, which goes to Victoria (calling at Clapham Junction).
