TERMS OF REFERENCE “Deficiencies in infrastructure which currently impede development in Australia’s regional areas.” Comments - - university courses are still inadequate in Albury-Wodonga, even though two major universities are present. Our per capita student enrolments are still lower than for other major regional centres; - the regular withdrawal of public services can mean significant travel times for users and consequent higher costs. It also means loss of income from often-skilled employees leaving the area; - the tendency by Commonwealth, NSW and Victorian governments to locate regional offices away from state border areas (the “360 degrees syndrome”) - even if Albury-Wodonga is a more appropriate and larger location; - this heading could be taken to also include situations where regional areas’ infrastructure lags behind that in capital cities.

    INDEX TO MARRICKVILLE HERITAGE SOCIETY INC NEWSLETTER ISSN 0818-0695 Vol 1 No 1 June 1984 To Vol 25 No 10 June 2009 Compiled by Robert Thompson The first issue of Marrickville Heritage Society’s Newsletter appeared in June 1984, just a short time after the formation of the Society. That first issue boldly declared itself to be vol 1 no 1. That we are now able to present an index to Volumes 1 to 25 is due to the determination and skill of each of the editors and contributors who have continued to produce a publication of such high quality. An early decision taken by members of the Society was that it should be an active organisation, rather than a remote one where members would simply pay their subscriptions and leave all the work to a committee. Because of its superb program of activities it has become a true ‘society’. The resulting comradeship has seen members working together to preserve not only the built environment of Marrickville but, perhaps more importantly, our social history as well. The story of Marrickville’s people is a vibrant, ongoing one in which each of us continues to play a part. And while members’ research will uncover and document more of our past, the initiatives and activities of Marrickville Heritage Society will ensure its relevance to a wider society, encouraging the protection of our heritage into the future. The Newsletter records each of our excursions and the speakers – from within and outside the Society – who have entertained and informed us; the fascinating, the horrifying and the sometimes bizarre in Marrickville’s unique story.

    New South Wales under the Local Government Act 1993 His Excellency the Lieutenant-Governor, with the advice of the Executive Council, has made the following Regulation under the Local Government Act 1993. ERNIE PAGE, M.P., Minister for Local Government e The object of this Regulation is to amend the Local Government (General) Regulation I993 to provide that, for the years ending 30 June 1998 and 30 June 1999, certain councils will not be required to prepare a comprehensive state of the environment report. Any such council must instead prepare supplementary reports for those years that comply with specified requirements. This Regulation contains transitional matters only. This Regulation is made under clause 1 of Schedule 8 to the Local Government Act 1993. Clause 1 Local Government (General) Amendment (Reports) Regulation 1998 This Regulation is the Local Government (General)Amendment (Reports) Regulation 1998. 2 Amendment of Local Government (General) Regulation 1993 The Local Government (General) Regulation 1993 is amended as set out in Schedule 1. 3 Notes The explanatory note does not form part of this Regulation. Launched in August 2018 and coordinated by Mind Australia, Caring Fairly is led by a coalition of over 25 carer support organisations, NGOs, peak bodies, and carers themselves. In NSW, Caring Fairly is represented by Mental Health Carers NSW, Carers NSW and Flourish Australia. We need your support, and invite you to join the Caring Fairly coalition. Caring Fairly wants: • A fairer deal for Australia’s unpaid carers • Better economic outcomes for people who devote their time to supporting and caring for their loved ones • Government policies that help unpaid carers balance paid work and care, wherever possible • Politicians to understand what’s at stake for unpaid carers going into the 2019 federal election To achieve this, we need your help. WHY WE ARE TAKING ACTION Unpaid carers are often hidden from view in Australian politics. There are almost 2.7 million unpaid carers nationally. Over 850,000 people in Australia are the primary carer to a loved one with disability. Many carers, understandly, don’t identify as a ‘carer’. Caring Fairly wants visibility for Australia’s unpaid carers. We are helping to build a new social movement in Australia to achieve this. Unpaid carers prop up Australian society. Like all Australians, unpaid carers have a right to a fair and decent quality of life.
