Manga Artist to Appear at First Mini Comic-Con For Immediate Release (September 19/12): ZAP! BANG! KAPOW! The TNRD Library System’s Kamloops Library, in partnership with High Octane , is hosting its first ever Mini Comic-Con. The event, which goes Saturday, Oct. 6, starting at 2 p.m., features an appearance by a well-established comic-book artist, as well as fun art and costume contests that offer prizes. Open to teens 13 to 18 years old, the inaugural Mini Comic-Con will be highlighted by the appearance of Vancouver-based manga artist Nina Matsumoto, a.k.a. “Space Coyote.” Matsumoto is an Eisner Award-winning comic-book artist who has released two volumes of her original manga Yokaiden through . A lifelong fan of , she also regularly pencils for Bongo Comics (Simpsons Comics, Comics). Matsumoto, with some help from High Octane Comics, will also act as judge for the Mini Comic-Con’s art contest. Budding artists are encouraged to create an original 2-D art piece in comic or manga style on any topic (keep it clean!) and in any media. Contestants are asked to keep the size of their artwork to a maximum of 18 inches by 24 inches for display purposes. Entries should be dropped off at the Children’s Desk at Kamloops Library by Wednesday, Oct. 3, at 5 p.m. All art will be displayed in the library and judging will take place the day of the event. Winners will be announced that day, too, with first prize supplied by High Octane Comics. There will also be an entry selected as a fan favourite.
