Launch

Think of a time when your faith has wavered. In self-reflection, how does those times make you feel about yourself? How do you think God feels about you in those times?

Observe

1. What parts of this text are confusing?

2. Can you get a sense of the tone in which the disciples were speaking to Jesus? Were they relieved, confused, etc.?

3. What is the tone in which you sense that Jesus responds to them? Anger? Impatience? Love?

Process

1. Read vs 25-28. What is it about Jesus’ statements in this section that causes the disciples to respond by saying that Jesus is “speaking clearly”?

2. What did they mean by this statement vs 30 - “Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions.”?

3. Read and 20. Consider Jehoshaphat’s rule - what did he do right and what did he do wrong?

4. Consider God’s response to Jehoshaphat’s prayer through - what did God tell the to DO?

5. Consider Jehoshaphat’s response - how did he lead his kingdom well?

3. What comfort does John 16 give you as you navigate not only this world, but your fears and doubts as you encounter it throughout your life?
