The entire Gainesville music scene was built around songs: Top Forty songs on the radio, songs on albums, original songs performed on stage by bands and other musical ensembles. The late sixties was a golden age of rock and pop music and the rise of the rock band as a musical entity. As the counterculture marched for equal rights and against the war in Vietnam, a sonic revolution was occurring in the recording studio and on the concert stage. New sounds were being created through multitrack recording techniques, and record producers such as Phil Spector and George Martin became integral parts of the creative process. Musicians expanded their sonic palette by experimenting with the sounds of sitar, and through sound-modifying electronic ef- fects such as the wah-wah pedal, fuzz tone, and the Echoplex tape-de- lay unit, as well as a variety of new electronic keyboard instruments and synthesizers. The sound of every musical instrument contributed toward the overall sound of a performance or recording, and bands were begin- ning to expand beyond the core of drums, bass, and a couple guitars.

  • An Amber Attractions Production the Golden Days of Australian Bandstand a Musical Look at 60'S Culture
An Amber Attractions Production The Golden days of Australian Bandstand A musical look at 60's Culture Australia’s longest running TV pop show ran for 15 years on channel nine and was beamed into, two million Australian loungeroom’s each week. Hosted by the mild mannered Brian Henderson, it featured regular Australian singers who became known as the "Bandstand Family". The show popularised the talents of Col Joye, Little Patti, Bryan Davies, Judy Stone, The Seekers, Johnny Farnham and The Bee Gees to name a few. As the program grew in popularity the audience was introduced to many overseas stars such as Dusty Springfield, Petula Clark, Tom Jones, Hermans Hermits, Chubby Checker plus many more. While other pop shows presented screaming fans and long-haired beat groups, Bandstand somehow seemed to ignore the extreme trends in music that happened in the mid and late 1960s. Although it showcased a range of pop performers, it shied away from the brash and the scruffy, becoming a more family orientated programme than a show strictly for teenagers. Each episode featured the "Bandstand Ballet" who kept the audience up to date with the latest dance trends. The Audience will RE-LIVE those swinging days of BANDSTAND. Be transported back to their loungeroom's with memorable Film clips BOP along with the DANCERS on screen and sing their heart's out to those unforgettable songs. Produced and Presented by Australia's favourite entertainers, Eddie Daniels and Suzie Lee. BANDSTAND Playlist examples Happy Together - The Turtles Boom bang a Bang - Lulu Do

John McEuen brings with him 45+ years of worldwide performing with his banjo, fiddle, guitar, and mandolin. Often referred to as 'the String Wizard', he weaves stories of his travels and family life (he has raised 7 kids), taking us through where his musical path has taken him. A founding member of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band in 1966, John instigated the 1972 classic Will the Circle Be Unbroken album, (inducted in to the Library of Congress as 'one of America's most important recordings). He has earned Emmy nominations, Grammy Awards, CMA acclaim, The Western Heritage Award, and many other accolades can be found on his website: www.johnmceuen.com. Proud to be an integral part of the first American band to go to Russia (in 1977!), John's love of performing is evident when during his shows he takes us 'behind the curtain' of the music world that so many of us know of only as listeners, and shows us how we have all been a part of it, more than we may know. McEuen's XM radio show, Acoustic Traveller, is in its 6th year, and you can find his new Americana Music Show on Syndicatednews.net (of which he is CEO) As winner of the 2010 Best of the West Performer award from the Folk Alliance organization, John's show is sure to be one enjoyed by all.
