John XXIII Catholic School Community NEWSLETTER Friday, May 1, 2020

Dear Saint John XXIII Community,

Before I go into my normal Friday newsletter topic for the week, I need all of the moms reading this to skip to the next paragraph. What will be said next is only for our dads. I’m trying to do what’s right here and help you all out. Sunday, May 10 is Mother’s Day. That is 9 days from today! Just to keep us all on the same page, with school classes not being done in person, your kids will NOT be creating Mother’s Day cards in class with their teachers that you can use as your own. It’s time to rally here boys and make an effort. I could have waited until next Friday to say this, but even 9 days out is still probably cutting it close for some of you. Good luck!

Now that those thoughts are out of the way, I can focus on some things from this week for everyone. I read a quote this week from St. Teresa of Calcutta, in an article that was sent to me. It could not have come at a better time as we received news that the Governor is extending the stay at home period through to May 15.

I’m sure all of you know about St. Teresa of Calcutta, also known as Mother Teresa, who opened and homes for the poorest of the poor in . She dedicated her life to helping the most vulnerable among us who we often ignore or take for granted. Her purpose wasn’t just to feed them, but to help them find their dignity which had been lost over the years of being ignored. Mother Teresa found great meaning in her suffering alongside Jesus on his cross.

I could expound upon the quote, but in truth it could not be more self-explanatory to the situation we are in today everywhere and not just Calcutta. Rather than talk about the quote, I invite you all to read it below a few times and pray on it over the weekend. Focus not only on what St. Teresa is saying, but on how it applies to what we are all doing each day of this stay at home order. I pray that you find peace and blessings in this time with your family.

“Wash the plate not because it is dirty nor because you were told to wash it, but because you the person who will use it next.” – St. Teresa of Calcutta

God Bless, Preston Colao Principal

Ways of Worship

Today is May Crowning! - A very special day to honor our Most Blessed Mother Why a Crowning? The queen symbol was attributed to Mary because she was a perfect follower of Christ, who is the absolute “crown” of creation. She is the Mother of the Son of God, who is the messianic King. Mary is the Mother of Christ. “He will be great and will be called Son of the Most High; the Lord will give Him the throne of His father ; and He will reign over the house of forever; and of His kingdom there will be no end” Luke 1:32-33 Elizabeth greeted the Blessed , pregnant with Jesus, as “the mother of my Lord” (Lk 1:41- 43). The maid of Nazareth consented to God’s plan; she journeyed on the of faith; she listened to God’s Word and kept it in her heart; she remained steadfastly in close union with her Son, all the way to the foot of the Cross; she persevered in prayer with the Church. Thus, in a way she won the “crown of righteousness”, the “crown of life” , the “crown of glory” that is promised to those who follow Christ. On this special day, let us ALL honor our Most Blessed Mother in our homes. Here are a few links for ideas:
