EzDad, I'm not going to mention who has been stating this rumor; it just isn't necessary. I simply wanted to put this out there to quash any possibility that such a ridiculous character assassination attempt would take hold in anyone's mind.

It could simply be confusion; it could be malicious intent, I don't know. But I do know exactly what is being said ("How bout the 13K your making off CFCF for website design douche? FU!"), and it's nonsense. Here's the *real* deal:

I was asked to assist CFCF in getting their Internet connection for the CFCF school in the DR. I've gladly helped with what I can (as have others), offering my advice on how best to bring the Internet to the kids in the DR. It hasn't amounted to much really, just broad advice on what types of connections are needed, etc.

This was all done without any recompense at all. I do not sell networking hardware, I do not do networking consulting, I do not know any suppliers that I'd recommend for nepotism purposes. I'm just a guy who happens to know a lot about computers and networking, and have pitched in where I could help.

It's really irritating when you volunteer your time to help a cause that you think is worthy, and someone starts crap like this. I'm sure this kind of thing dissuades people from offering to help, and makes Fuente Newman less sanguine about receiving it.

For example, you were one of the few interested in reviewing a copy of the public CFCF financial report and assumed ok to comment on it, and particularly commented that "transparency is one of the things that breeds trust".

It was during CFC05 that the CFCF financial report was open for inspection, and also, if I recall correctly, at the same time it was announced that the school website was being worked out for a contract to get started.

Seems that there were other donations (thanks to them) made for the equipment etc, so questions on this are questions, no biggie. Seems that all those questions could help to keep checks and balances, also demonstrates the outstanding transparency that CFCF offers.

Unbelievable -- I think I figure out what this "contract" is. It's not for web design, and it sure as hell has nothing to do with me -- it's a proposed contract for the satellite Internet connection for CFCF... one of many on the table, this one was from a company called OptiStreams.

Okay everyone....I was also in those meetings in New Orleans. Whomever brought this subject out is either FOS, kidding (I hope), or was not in the meetings.

Those of us who were there who aren't directly associated with CFCF, Fuente/Newman, etc. were there merely in the spirit of CFCF.

The timing was right for those who are officially connected to sit down and discuss this matter (which wasn't about a website at all) and because of CFC, all (most) major players were in the same city at the same time.

As for the meeting, we discussed pros/cons of different methods of providing internet access for the schools being built in the Dominican Republic with our (F/N, CF, personal, etc.) financial contributions. We discussed hardware, software, topology, theory, etc. of how we can best help these children gain an even better means of learning by making available more reference material and tutorials via internet connectivity.

Everyone in those meetings was there because they wanted to be there....to help. There was no one in that meeting that CFers don't know or at least know of, but I promise that no one in that meeting that had any financial interest (gain or loss) in the matter posts here with regularity.

Just as Andrew did, I will just say that there were a couple of other people in that meeting that can tell you nothing other than what we have. We were involved in the meeting just as we would pull over and help someone change a flat. Except the person with the flat was a friend.

I love this place, but sometimes we look to hang those that we should be supporting...or at least appreciating.

Ok, I'm over at Terry's now, and as I walk through the gate he's like "dude, have you been on CF since you left work yesterday?" and pointed out this thread. I'll say this, I was also sitting in the meeting at CFC and it was just like Terry said. We talked about what would be the best way to get internet service to the site (obviously we're going to have to go with satellite), we talked about what would be the best method to distribute the internet connection to the other buildings (wireless or wired), and how to provide service to each of the computers that will be running (wired or wireless). We also talked a small bit about whether they would need a domain, or if everything should just be in workgroups.

There was also mention of what would be involved in order to get whatever services the F/N's decided to install installed. We mentioned some things they needed to be careful about and where contractors tended to cut corners. Things like "if you're going to run cat5 between the buildings, make sure they run the wires in conduits". We started addressing the power needs theat would have to be accomodated, both for the satellite connection and for each group of computers in the buildings. We talked about using UPS's, especially on the servers, and the fact that they needed to be careful about overheating the servers they'd need, how to go about cooling them, and the precautionary steps that needed to be taken to avoid condensation in their high humidity surroundings. That's when we found out that they really didn't have any kind of adequate way to supply the power that would be required, and Carlito said he didn't just want to bring in big generators, he wanted to use solar and wind power, but that the big wigs would have to do a good bit more thinking to establish just how much power they'd need vs. how many solar panels/ wind-power generators would have to be put in. And that's where it ended. Moki volunteered to come down to the DR to help oversee the contractors and make sure everything would be up to par since he would know more about what he was looking at and industry standards than anyone they had down there right now...... WITH NO MENTION OF ANY COMPENSATION!!! The way I heard it, it was pretty clear he was going to use his own money and time.

Hopefully this will be the end of this foolishness. Moki is one of the most generous and selfless guys I've had the pleasure to meet. If he was under contract for ANY work to the F/N families, I have NO DOUBT he would have come straight out and said it right off, and would have even given information he wouldn't have needed to give so that noone got the wrong impression. He's totally above-board and of the highest class of people. Period.

Thankfully it would seem many here have seen exactly the same thing.

Now every knows exactly what "the little meeting" was about, and exactly what happened (to the best of my recollection, several months later). We simply provided some information to someone who needed it. No contracts came out of the thing, no promises of future work, just the utmost spirit of what the CFCF is all about. And I'm just proud to be able to say I was a very small part of that!

I normally wouldn't comment on a thread like this but since it envolves the Foundation I thought I should set the record straight.

Moki has not received nor has he or his company submitted any type of bid for services / contract whatever you want to call it to / from CFCF or any of the Fuente Newman Companies.

While we were at CFC in New Orleans, all he / we did was talk about what would be needed to have a computer lab at the CFCF Primary School and one at the High School. THATS IT!!!

As a matter of fact we are currently trying to get Verizon to DONTAE ALL the equipment and services we would need for the two computer labs.

It is very disapointing to me that someone would say something like this becuase it doesn't effect Moki or the companies themsleves but it may effect a potential donor. If one potential donor thinks twice before he / she actually donates because of this preposterous thread then that would truly be sad.

We have always strived to make CFCF a foundation that we could ALL be proud of. We have all spent alot of time, money and more importantly emotion into helping some really great kids in the DR have a chance at a better life. To have someone take a "cheap shot" at the foundation is very, very sad.

I'm used to this kind of stuff regarding our cigars, our personal motives, our character the companies business direction but to try and impugn the character of a pretty decent CF'er and indirectly the character of the foundation... well like I said, I normally wouldn't even post on this type of thread because this crap doesn't deserve my time.

If anybody has ANY QUESTIONS about the way CFCF is run I guarantee you that if you e- mail Eric Newman you will get your answer. I hope this puts an end to this rumor.

I think this happens on a smaller scale all the time. There are many new members that go somewhere else or don't post out of fear of being flamed. A lot of folks who may get behind CFCF are chased off by a bunch of BS before they have a chance to see what CF is really about.
