NOTICE BY THE BOARD OF CUSTOMS AND EXCISE NIGERIA

Customs and Excise Notice No. 1- Commencement: 1st June, 1962

Hours of Attendance by Officers of Customs and Excise and the Fees Payable FOR Extra Attendance By virture of section 9 of the Customs and Excise Management Act No. 55 of 1958, it is hereby notified that the hours during which public offices of the Department of Customs and Excise are open, or during which officers of Customs arid Excise are available, for the performance of particular.duties on all days except Sundays and public holidays are, subject to the provisions of paragraphs 4 and 6, as stated in Annex A. 2. Definitions :— (a) "Indoor" and "Outdoor" Attendance.—Attendance is classified as either “Indoor” pr “Outdoor”. Any attendance which is not specified as “Outdoor”’is “Indoor”. “Outdoor” attendance consists of the following:— (0 boarding of ships and aircraft; (xt) clearing of passengers and passengers’ baggage; (xii) landing and shipping operations, including the release of goods ; (iv) attendance at the licensed premises of an excise trader. (fi) Extra Attendance.—Extra attendance means attendance given by officers ou^ide the prescribed houra and on Simdays and public holidays (see Annex A.) ‘ /. 3. Places^ at tfihich attendance will not ie provided,—^Except by special arrang^ient or in exceptional cases, attendance will not be provided for service outside Approved wharves, Cust^ Houses, Customs Airports, C^toms Areas, Customs Ports, Customs Stations, Government W^arehouses, I.tcensed Excise premises, Licensed Warehouses and Parcels Post Depots. /

4., Application for Extra Attendance.—(fl) Persons requiring the extra attendance of officers must make application to the,proper officer on Form ‘Sale 10’—Application for Extm Attendance (see Annex B). If the request is granted, he must pay in advance the charges estimated to b^payable. {See also, paragraph 5), (b) Applications are to be made in good time to allow of suitenle arrangements being made for the required attendance. 7 (c) l^e granting of an application is at the discretion of the^^oper officer who may refuse the request tmless he is satisfied that a good reason exists for granting it. / (d) Attendance on Simdays and public holidays and between the hours of 10.30 p.m. and 6.00 a.m. will only be permitted in exception^ cases. Extra attendance before morning opening hours and during afternoon breaks may be given to the public only by special arrangement/with the proper officer, and at least four working hours’ prior notification is required for the former. / t (c) Requests: from applicants who are in default in tte payment of charges ori previous applications will not be granted uptil the accoimt outstanding has been settled. i 5. JVaiver of pre-payment.—(n) W^aiver of pre-.payment of charges may be granted in certain Circumstances.
