MIDLANDS 1 EAST LEAGUE Old Northamptonians RFC 1St XV Vs OLD NORTHAMPTONIANS RUGBY UNION FOOTBALL CLUB FOUNDED 1923 Northampton & District Alliance Cup Winners 2004 – 2017 Saturday 6th April 2019 3.00 pm Kick off MIDLANDS 1 EAST LEAGUE Old Northamptonians RFC 1st XV vs. West Bridgford 1st XV Action from the last home game, it’s good to see props still get on well together…. Ground Admittance FREE Programme minimum donation £1 THE OLD NORTHAMPTONIANS R.F.C. CLUB SPONSOR www.bcaautomotive.com Welcome to Old Northamptonians RFC 2018 / 2019 A warm welcome to the penultimate league game of the season & the light relief of just a rugby afternoon following recent Saturday events, which do make the clubhouse busy – well done for raising over £2,000 at last week’s Ladies Lunch, but a Yard of Prosecco anyone? West Bridgford RFC provide the opposition today for I believe their first visit to Billing Road. Looking at the relative league positions of both teams, the game could go either way. I was fortunate to go up to watch the away fixture back in December & what a game it proved to be! Despite the changeable weather, both sides provided a spectacle which was a pleasure to watch from the sideline. The result went in the ONs favour as they played as well that day as I have seen all season, but it could have as easily gone the other way as both sides showed both attacking flair & heroic defence. I hope today's game can replicate that fixture - the same result would also do nicely! The ONs demonstrated in recent fixtures that they can score tries freely again. After the thriller up in Leicester last week when they pushed third place Oadby Wyggs all the way to lose by a single point in the dying minutes. It goes to show what getting some key players back from injury can do for our match day performance. Let's hope we finish the season on a high. The U18s, despite being knocked out of the National Cup the other week are still on course for the two local finals, the East Midlands Referees Cup & the Alliance Oceanic Trophy. They have strong opposition in both but are having issues arranging both their semi-final fixtures, but I suspect they will come good in both with the quality of their now full strength squad so we hope to see some silverware somewhere along the line. Keep an eye on the website for when the games are to be played & get along to watch, I am sure you won't be disappointed. Of the ONs lower sides the 2nds continue their previous form throughout the season & are awaiting being crowned as winners of the top East Mids Merit table. The 3rds were due to host Bugbrooke today but are now searching for an away fixture (minibus available so beware!). Also having won their Merit table there will probably be the partaking of much cheese & Port as a consequence (..I don't know either?),. The Vets play their EMRU Veterans Plate final over Easter weekend, so if you want some entertainment, pop along & see how the old boys do it (although to me some are still whipper snappers). God knows what comestibles they will indulge in if they win? Our Ladies section have experienced a few issues this season with injuries & retention but reports are that they are coming strong again. They too have the semi final of the Alliance Cup against Towcestrians Roses on 14th April. Hopefully they will go one better vs Tows than our 1st team. All the best from me and hope they get to their first trip to the Gardens on 24th April Regarding discipline, we have recently attended an East Midlands Disciplinary Panel to discuss our record, as unfortunately we have made 5 appearances across the club. This is not that many considering the many Seniors, Ladies M&Js and Ladies teams we put out. However, this record is not one to be particularly proud of as it shows some lack of control & discipline which is not a value we advocate. Disciplinary records can lead to sanctions for the Senior Club, if they exceed certain boundaries all players, officials & supporters at EVERY LEVEL must be aware that their actions can have implications. Respect & discipline is paramount, let’s ensure it is shown to today's very welcome 1st team referee Gary Malpas. Enough from me, enjoy your day, hopefully we should see a bit of sun on our grounds which are looking particularly good at present. May the best team win or if not, the second best...! Message from Eddie Slinn, Chairman of the ONA Dear Members, I am writing to inform you that the extension works to our facilities commenced on April 1st. As you will know this project originally began as a plan to replace the boiler system at the clubhouse, We have already installed a new boiler system and air conditioning in the clubhouse which I hope you have benefited from However, through the generosity of our members and the tireless dedication of a small number of people we have managed to exceed all expectations so have now started building fantastic new changing rooms and viewing platforms that will benefit all sections for generations to come. My personal thanks to Pete Bason, Richard Blank, Adam Civil, Mark Lee and Jamie Evans who have been at the forefront of fundraising over the last year and with your help have raised an incredible amount of money to help our vision come true. As with all building works there will be some disruption to our facilities during the build and I ask you to ensure that the Health & Safety of all our members, visitors, spectators and children are paramount in your mind during the works. The building contractors will take every precaution to ensure the building works are safe, but we must ensure that no one goes near the works, especially children. There will be some slight disruption to the clubhouse, with the metal staircase being removed during the works so that the only entrance and exit will be the main staircase. Please can we ensure that children do not block the staircase at any time. Site security will be important so please can all coaches ensure that gates are closed and padlocked at the end or training sessions. Your patience and understanding is appreciated at this exciting time. We are very lucky to have such excellent facilities at our magnificent club that we are in a position to improve and very lucky we have such dedicated members that can make these ideas into reality. • Club History
Club History Inception: the 1950s and 1960s In 1956 a group of 15-year-old school leavers from Players School and Cottesmore School had nowhere to play so they formed their own club. Nottingham Moderns RFC was formed. The early matches were played on rented pitches around the city. With the help of old school masters and the youth service, steady progress was made. However, financing the new club was a problem. On most occasions the players would make their way to away matches by public transport, resulting in all day adventures to various parts of the East Midlands. A good relationship was formed with the local colleges and sports teachers, and with the Welsh Exiles. This led to a period of rapid growth that resulted in sustained fixtures with more established local sides and also games against the 2nd XV teams from the Midlands senior teams.[3] Settling down: The 1970s The year 1975 was momentous in the history of the club. The club finally secured a home at Wilford where they remain today. In the same year they became the first club from Nottinghamshire to win the Three Counties Cup (Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire & Lincolnshire). The 1st XV also reached the semi-final of the Midlands Clubs Championship. The most successful season in the club's history was probably 1974–75, with the 1st XV, 2nd XV, and 3rd XV losing just three games each all season. The 1st XV and 2nd XV also won the respective County Cup competitions. All of this was accomplished as a nomadic club, with no fixed home, playing on rented parks pitches, and drinking in numerous local public houses to entertain their opposition.

  • Rushcliffe Playing Pitch Strategy – Review and Action Plan Update 2019
Rushcliffe Playing Pitch Strategy Review and Action Plan Update 2019 1 Contents Page Introduction 3 Methodology 4 How the Playing Pitch Strategy has been applied and the lessons learnt? 5 Are there any new or emerging issues and opportunities? 5 Housing Growth Scenarios – Update 7 Action Plans 10 Bingham Analysis Area 12 Cotgrave and Radcliffe Analysis Area 17 East Leake Analysis Area 20 Keyworth Analysis Area 24 West Bridgford and Ruddington Analysis Area 28 2 Introduction This document follows a review of the Rushcliffe Playing Pitch Strategy (PPS) which was first published in October 2017. The strategy identifies the need for a review of the document within 3 years of it being published, this is because: ‘The nature of the supply and in particular the demand for playing pitches will likely to have changed over the three years. This should also help to ensure that the original supply and demand information is no more than two years old without being reviewed’ (Rushcliffe Playing Pitch Strategy – Strategy and Action Plan, October 2017, Page 92) The strategy also identifies the review should contain the following elements: How the delivery of the recommendations and action plan has progressed and any changes required to the priority afforded to each action (e.g. the priority of some may increase following the delivery of others) How the PPS has been applied and the lessons learnt Any changes to particularly important sites and/or clubs in the area (e.g. the most used or high quality sites for a particular sport) and other supply and demand information, what this may mean for the overall assessment work and the key findings and issues Any development of a specific sport or particular format of a sport Any new or emerging issues and opportunities This review has been necessary to ensure the delivery of the strategy’s recommendations and actions has taken place, and to identify any new developments that may change key priorities.
