During this time 300 issues came off the press. It started as an information publication, which mainly informed about the life of the institute, our events, affairs and problems. Today Vestnik has turned into a full-fledged scientific journal. He entered various citation systems, including international databases. The impact factor of the journal over the past few years has more than tripled. We have long out- grown the local corporate nature of the title and decided on the further release of the journal under a new title — «Vestnik of Geosciences». ×åòâåðòü âåêà íàçàä, 31 ÿíâàðÿ 1995 ãîäà, âûøåë çíàòåëüíûõ îòçûâîâ î íàøåì æóðíàëå, â òîì ÷èñëå ñëî- ïåðâûé íîìåð « Âåñòíèêà È íñòèòóòà ãåîëîãèè Êîìè âà àêàäåìèêà Á. • A New Early Visean Coral Assemblage from Azrou-Khenifra Basin, Central Morocco and Palaeobiogeographic Implications Sergio Rodríguez1,2* , Ian D
Rodríguez et al. Journal of Palaeogeography (2020) 9:5 https://doi.org/10.1186/s42501-019-0051-5 Journal of Palaeogeography ORIGINAL ARTICLE Open Access A new early Visean coral assemblage from Azrou-Khenifra Basin, central Morocco and palaeobiogeographic implications Sergio Rodríguez1,2* , Ian D. Somerville3, Pedro Cózar2, Javier Sanz-López4, Ismael Coronado5, Felipe González6, Ismail Said1 and Mohamed El Houicha7 Abstract A new early Visean coral assemblage has been recorded from turbidite facies in the southern part of the Azrou- Khenifra Basin, northwest of Khenifra, central Morocco. The newly discovered Ba Moussa West (BMW) coral fauna includes Siphonophyllia khenifrense sp. nov., Sychnoelasma urbanowitschi, Cravenia lamellata, Cravenia tela, Cravenia rhytoides, Turnacipora megastoma and Pleurosiphonella crustosa. The early Visean age of the coral assemblage is supported by foraminiferal and conodont data, with the recognition of the basal Visean MFZ9 Zone. This confirms that the first transgression in the Azrou-Khenifra Basin was during the earliest Visean. The allochthonous coral assemblage was recovered from coarse-grained proximal limestone debris flow and turbidite beds within a fault- bounded unit, lying to the west of a thrust syncline containing upper Visean limestones. No evidence exists of the former early Visean shallow-water platform from which the corals were derived. All other in situ platform carbonate rocks around the southern margin of the Azrou-Khenifra Basin are probably of late Visean (Asbian–Brigantian) age. The early Visean Ba Moussa West coral fauna can be compared with that at Tafilalt in eastern Morocco, as well as in other Saharian basins of Algeria. Many of the genera and species in the Ba Moussa West assemblage are identical to those in NW Europe, with which it must have had marine connections.

  • Carboniferous Tabulate Corals from the Sardar Formation in the Ozbak-Kuh Mountains, East-Central Iran
Bull. Natl. Mus. Nat. Sci., Ser. C, 46, pp. 47–59, December 25, 2020 Carboniferous Tabulate Corals from the Sardar Formation in the Ozbak-kuh Mountains, East-Central Iran Shuji Niko1* and Mahdi Badpa2 1 Department of Environmental Studies, Faculty of Integrated Arts and Sciences, Hiroshima University, Higashihiroshima, Hiroshima 739–8521, Japan 2 Department of Geology, Payame Noor University of Qom, Qom, Iran *Author for correspondence: [email protected] Abstract Five species of tabulate corals are described from the Serpukhovian–Bashkirian (late early– early late Carboniferous) part of the Sardar Formation in the Ozbak-kuh Mountains, East-Central Iran. They are Michelinia flugeli sp. nov., late Bashkirian, Michelinia sp. indet., late Bashkirian, Donetzites mariae Flügel, 1975, late Serpukhovian, Syringopora iranica sp. nov., late Serpukhovian, and Multithe- copora sp. cf. M. huanglungensis Lee and Chu in Lee et al., 1930, late Serpukhovian to late Bashkirian. The Sardar tabulate coral fauna occurs from limestones that formed in Peri-Gondwana at the low lati- tudes of the southern hemisphere and faced the Paleo-Tethys Ocean. Except for a cosmopolitan species, closely related to comparable species with the fauna are reported from the Akiyoshi seamount chain, the South China Continent, and the Australian eastern Gondwana. Key words: Serpukhovian–Bashkirian, late early–early late Carboniferous, Favositida, Auloporida, Peri-Gondwana Introduction et al. (2006) separated its upper part from the for- mation as the Zaladu Formation that is correlative The Ozbak-kuh Mountains are a fault topography with the Gzhelian (late late Carboniferous) to Asse- in the Kashmar-Kerman Tectonic Zone (Stöcklin lian (early early Permian).

BALTIMORE, MD., U. S. A. FOREWORD This is the third of a series of descriptive papers on the paleontology of the rocks exposed in the vicinity of Caborca, Sonora, The faunas of the Cambrian and Permian sediments have already been published.^ This description of the Mississippian fossils is the last extensive paper in the series. Pre-Cambrian algae and a few Devonian species are the only other fossils collected by the expeditions of 1943 and 1944. The work in Sonora was undertaken to establish a Paleozoic se- quence in that region. Some excitement resulted from the early report of Cambrian in an area that had hitherto been thought to contain mostly Mesozoic rocks. The work of A. R. V. Arellano of the Insti- tuto Geologico de Mexico and G. A. Cooper of the Smithsonian Insti- tution resulted in the discovery of Lower Cambrian and Devonian as well as confirmation of the presence of Middle Cambrian, Mississip- pian, and Permian, The Mississippian rocks occur in a limited area, actually consisting of two small hills about half a mile apart.

  • (Lower Carboniferous) Corals (Subclasses Rugosa, Tabulata) Preserved in an Urban Environment, Leiden, the Netherlands Dimmy M
Bulletin of the Mizunami Fossil Museum, no. 44 (2018), p. 39–50, 7 figs. © 2018, Mizunami Fossil Museum Provenance, systematics and palaeoecology of Mississippian (Lower Carboniferous) corals (subclasses Rugosa, Tabulata) preserved in an urban environment, Leiden, the Netherlands Dimmy M. van Ruiten* and Stephen K. Donovan** *Bachstraat 19, 2324 GJ Leiden, the Netherlands *Taxonomy and Systematics Group, Naturalis Biodiversity Center, Postbus 9517, 2300 RA Leiden, the Netherlands <[email protected]> Abstract There are few sites in The Netherlands where the pre-Pleistocene rock and fossil records can be examined in situ. In the city of Leiden, Mississippian (Lower Carboniferous) limestones used as building stones expose diverse invertebrate fossils, principally brachiopods, fenestrate bryozoans, crinoid columnals, molluscs and corals. This study focuses on the corals, which belong to the subclasses Rugosa and Tabulata. The aim of the research was to determine the biodiversity of fossil corals in the city of Leiden and any associated palaeoecological signals. Two street surveys were made through Leiden and a database of pictures was built up. The corals were then identified using published keys and literature. Research and identification revealed four genera, namely Michelinia, Syringopora, Zaphrentites and Siphonodendron. Most were common, but Siphonodendron was only encountered once in this study, and may be from a different locality and horizon from the other corals. The other genera were compared with literature on coral faunas and it is concluded that the limestones are from the Late Tournaisian Ourthe Formation in Belgium. Key words: Michelinia, Syringopora, Zaphrentites, Siphonodendron, Tournaisian, Ourthe Formation Introduction section using published keys (e.g., Anonymous, 1969; Mitchell, 2003).

  • Carboniferous Corals: Distribution and Sequence
ACTA PALAEONTOLO.GICA POLONICA Vol. 26 198 1 No. 2 JERZY FEDOROWSKI CARBONIFEROUS CORALS: DISTRIBUTION AND SEQUENCE FEDOROWSKI J.: Carboniferous corals: distribution and sequence. Acta Palaeont. Polonica, 26, 2, 87-160, November 1981. It has been stated that the whole Permo-Carboniferous: coral evolution is covered by a single cycle of evolution which can be divided into three phases: the first phase contains strata between Strunian and Chokierian and mat possibly also Alportian stages inclusively; the second phase extends up to the base of Oren- burgian and the third one includes Orenburgian and Permian. Provinciality of coral faunas has been reconstructed on a basis of plate tectonic data. Some provinces were probably determined not only by the seafland configurations, but also by palaeocurrents. For some provinces and stages the main faunal regions and possible regions of speciation have been reconstructed. KeY w o r d s: Carboniferous corals, palaeogeography, evolution. Jerzy Fedorowski: Pracownta Paleozoologit Bezkr~gowc6w,Katedra Geologii, UnC wersytet im. Adama Micktewtcza, ul. MtelPyfiskiego 27/29. 61-725 Poznafi, Poland. Received: March 1980. INTRODUCTION Present knowledge of Palaeozoic corals, particularly their taxonomy, is still far from perfect, which detracts very much from their strati- graphic value. This paper is only an attempt to summarize the existing data and use them for general stratigraphic and palaeogeographic com- parisons. Data on species are mainly not used because of extensive variation in the interpretation of the morphologic characters. Data on genera used here, are also not always certain because of wide homeo- morphism and misinterpretations. The more controversial generic names are indicated by quotation or interrogation marks.
