Under this order religious celebrations are reduced to gatherings of no more than 10 people. However, in recognition of the seriousness of our present health situation, Bishop Dowd has issued a decree that all churches in the Diocese of Sault Ste.Marie will remain closed to the services of the Mass until further notice. This is action is taken for the protection of the members of our church & community. An Update from India! I have heard again from Fr. Jackson, and he has confirmed that despite the number of rising Covid cases in India, he has managed to stay well. That is good news! For those who would like to touch base with him, I have his email & mailing address - just call in to the office and I can provide that to you. Mary, Secretary Dear friend of God’s underprivileged children, Our St. Kevin’s Conference Vincentian family sincerely thank you for your generous donation to the Nicaragua Water project. Thanks to you we were able to send $4800.00 toward the implementation of that endeavour. Clermont Fortin, the National-Twinning SSVP Canada coordinator had this to say: “ This project is now fully funded with the generous donations from your area. At this time, the project is waiting for Canadian funding before starting execution. I will keep you informed of progress as reports are sent to me.” SUPPORT FOR OUR PARISH March 2021 Envelopes –————–——— $ 8,830 Loose —————————– $ 177 Heat/Hydro ——–—–——— $ 1,048 Thank you for Initial Offering ——–——— $ 25 your offering Mother of God (New Yr Day) $ 25 Easter —————————– $ 335 Total March = $ 10,440 April 2021 Envelopes & *PADP ———–—— $ 8,980 Loose —————————– $ 88 Heat/Hydro ——–—–——— $ 355 Initial Offering ——–——— $ 10 Easter —————————– $ 1,918 Total April = $ 11,351 *PADP = Pre-Authorized Debit donations Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie MEDIA RELEASE May 19, 2021 Communications Contact: Fr. Daniele Muscolino [email protected] | 705-495-1501 NEW PRIEST APPOINTED AT NORTH BAY’S PRO-CATHEDRAL Diocese announces retirement of Msgr. Dave Tramontini who has served the Pro-Cathedral since 1995 NORTH BAY, ON - Bishop Thomas Dowd of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie announced today that he has appointed Fr. Larry Rymes as the new Pastor of the Parish of the Pro-Cathedral of the Assumption in North Bay, Ontario. Fr. Rymes will succeed Msgr. Dave Tramontini, who recently presented his retirement to Bishop Dowd, which was accepted. Fr. Rymes, currently the Pastor of Our Lady of Hope Church in Sudbury, Ontario, was born and raised in North Bay, Ontario, attending Holy Name of Jesus Church. He was ordained a Catholic priest in 1992 and has served parishes in Blind River, Sault Ste. Marie, Greater Sudbury, and even served as assistant to Msgr. Tramontini at the Pro-Cathedral in 1995. Msgr. Tramontini has served as Rector of the Pro-Cathedral since 1995 where he has worked with many bishops, priests, deacons and lay people alike, and celebrated countless baptisms, weddings and funerals. In 2004, Tramontini was made a “Prelate of Honour” by Pope John Paul II, which granted him the privilege of being addressed as “Monsignor”. “I thank Msgr. Dave for his many years of service to the Pro-Cathedral and offer him my contin- ued prayers in his retirement,” said Bishop Dowd, leader of the Diocese of Sault Ste. Marie, “I also warmly welcome Fr. Larry Rymes to the Pro-Cathedral.” The change in leadership at the Pro-Cathedral takes place September 1, 2021. A new pastor for Our Lady of Hope Church in Sudbury will be announced at a later date. Why does a priest retire? Although Catholic priests do not retire from being an ordained priest of the church, they do retire from being the spiritual leader of a particular church community. Many priests in their retirement continue to serve in different ministries, or provide coverage for other active priests in ministry when they need to be away from their church. Fr. Larry Rymes The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed April 22nd as International Mother Earth Day through a resolution adopted in 2019. The Day recognises the Earth and its ecosystems as humanity's common home and the need to protect her to enhance people’s livelihoods, counteract climate change, and stop the collapse of biodiversity. The theme for 2021 is Restore our Earth. The Ecology and Creation Sector of the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development of the Holy See has invited the Women’s Union of Catholic Women’s Organizations, as a Catholic non-governmental organi- zation, to collaborate from a grassroot level in the launch of the 7-year plan wanted by Pope Francis to achieve the 7 Sustainable Goals of Laudato si'. Below are the final 2 goals, of the 7 identified in the plan. 6. Ecological Spirituality (recover a religious vision of God’s creation, encourage greater contact with the natural world in a spirit of wonder, praise, joy and gratitude, promote creation-centred liturgical celebrations, develop ecological catechesis, prayer, retreats, formation, etc.) 7. Emphasis on Community involvement and participatory action to care for creation at the local, regional, national and international levels (promote advocacy and people’s campaigns, encourage rootedness in lo- cal territory and neighbourhood ecosystems, etc.) Visit https://www.wucwo.org for more information … An INTEGRAL vision « … human life is grounded in three fundamental and closely intertwined relationships: with God, with our neighbour and with the earth itself.» (Laudato Si’, 66) .
