Tonight he enters another when he plays his 560th career game, tying him with Martin Straka for 10th place on the team’s all-time games played list. Next up once he passes Straka – (9th place; 572 games) and Dave Burrows (8th place; 573 games).

MALKIN NOTCHES 400TH ASSIST & RUNS POINT STREAK TO 9 GAMES Evgeni Malkin became just the fifth player in franchise history to record 400 assists when he set up a Chris Kunitz goal Thursday versus the Kings. Malkin joined (1,033), Jaromir Jagr (640), Ron Francis (449) and Sidney Crosby (503) as the only players in team history with 400 assists. With his helper, Malkin improved his point streak to nine games, which is second in the NHL behind only Columbus forward Ryan Johansen (10 games) for the longest such streak in the NHL this year. Should Malkin extend his point streak to 10 games tonight, it will be the fifth time in the past five years that a Penguins player has put together a streak of 10 or more games:

SID VS. BUFFALO Penguins Sidney Crosby enters tonight’s game with a 17-game point streak against the Buffalo Sabres that dates back to Dec. 29, 2007. He has 10 goals and 18 assists for 28 points in those contests. During his career, Crosby has collected at least one point in 23 of 25 games against the Sabres.

FLOWER BLOOMS Marc-Andre Fleury stopped a season-high 36 shots to record his second shutout in three games Thursday night against the Kings. It was the third-most (tied) saves Fleury has made in a shutout behind the 40 stops he had on Oct. 5, 2007 vs. Philadelphia and the 37 saves he had against New Jersey on Dec. 26, 2009. It also marked the first time that Fleury has had two shutouts within a three-game span since Jan. 30-Feb. 3, 2007. Fleury’s shutout was the 30th of his career, extending his own franchise record. He became just the ninth active netminder with 30 shutouts. Since the beginning of last season, Fleury’s seven shutouts are tied with Boston’s Tuukka Rask for second most in the NHL behind only two-time champ (8). Fleury has 294 career wins, leaving him six shy of joining the 300-win club. In his last 12 starts against the Sabres, Fleury is 10-2 with a 1.93 goals-against average (23GA/717MIN) and a .933 save percentage (318 saves/341 shots).

LETHAL LINE Pittsburgh’s top line of Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist and Chris Kunitz paved the way to victory once against Thursday night, combining for five of the team’s eight points (2G-3A). Kunitz scored twice and added a helper; while Crosby and Hornqvist each had single assists. Below is a look at some of the numbers the unit has produced:

*They have scored the game-winning goal in four of Pittsburgh’s six wins (Kunitz leads the team with 2) *One of the three has scored Pittsburgh’s first goal in five of the nine games *At least one of the three has recorded a point in eight of the nine games. The only game that all three were held off the scoresheet was Oct. 22 against the Flyers *They have accounted for all four of Pittsburgh’s multi-goal games this season and 11 of its 24 (46%) multi-point efforts

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: PENS vs. KINGS *The Penguins scored two of their three goals in the first period. Pittsburgh’s 15 first-period goals lead the NHL. *Power-play goals from Chris Kunitz and Kris Letang gave Pittsburgh multiple man-advantage scores for the sixth time in nine games to begin the season. This year the Penguins have scored 15 times on the power play in the first nine games. The five teams ranked in the bottom of the NHL on the power play have combined to score nine goals. *Chris Kunitz scored the game-winning goal, his team-leading second of the season. Over the last three years, Kunitz is tied for first in the NHL with 15 game-winners (Corey Perry and Alex Ovechkin). *Pittsburgh killed off all four Kings power-play opportunities, improving the Penguins streak of consecutive penalties killed to 22 over the past six games. The last time Pittsburgh went seven consecutive games without allowing a man-advantage goal was from Feb. 26-Mar. 17, 2012. *Sidney Crosby went 12-8 (60%) on draws, the fourth-consecutive game he has finished at 50% or better (39-25; 60.9%) on faceoffs. During the first four games, Crosby went 47-59 (44.3%).

THE MORE YOU KNOW… *Pittsburgh’s three-game winning streak and four-game point streak (3-0-1) are the team’s longest of the season. *During its three-game winning streak the Penguins are outscoring foes, 14-3. *Marc-Andre Fleury is 3-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average (3GA/180MIN), a .963 save percentage (77 saves/80 shots) and two shutouts in his last three starts. *Fleury now has seven shutouts in his last 72 games (1 every 10.3 games). He had 23 shutouts in his first 441 games (1 every 19.2 games). His shutout on Thursday against the Kings came on the 10-year anniversary of his first NHL shutout (10/30/05 at CHI). *This season, four Penguins skaters – Sidney Crosby, Patric Hornqvist, Evgeni Malkin and Chris Kunitz – have reached double figures in points. Those four have combined to score 21 of the team’s 36 goals (58%) and register 49 of its 97 points (51%). *Head coach Mike Johnston has began his career 6-2-1, making him just the fifth coach in franchise history to notch six or more wins in his first 10 games, joining Gene Ubriaco (7 wins), Herb Brooks (7), Rick Kehoe (6) and Dan Bylsma (8).
