There’s a few things you should know before I start my review of Mondo Generator’s “Dog Food” single. I like my RnR to be dirty, raw, and gnarly most times. I mentioned this in our RIP Derf Scratch article and I’ll mention it again. And at the top of my RnR list you will find “Songs For The Deaf” by Queens of the Stone Age, “Apocalypse Dudes” by Turbonegro, “Blood Guts and Pussy” by The Dwarves and “In Utero” by Nirvana (I realize this one is somewhat out of place but it’s a great album in spite of everything surrouding it). So why am I mentioning these albums? Well for the simple fact that Mondo Generator is comprised of members of these bands. Nick Oliveri (QOTSA), Happy Tom (Turbonegro), Dave Grohl (Nirvana/QOTSA), and Marc Diamond (Dwarves). Videos Does this 7″ live up to all that these guys have done Recent Posts previous? Not really. But it’s hard cause those albums are so intensely good there’s little that stands up to them period. -

His latest project, however, finds the California native strapping on an acoustic guitar for his first solo album, Death Acoustic , and a tour that stops at the Hi-Tone Saturday night. But Oliveri, who has always brought a jolt of punk energy -- as well as, frequently, a splash of on-stage nudity -- to whatever endeavor he undertakes, is not turning into a folkie. Always Talk to Strangers
AN ABSTRACT OF THE THESIS OF C. Nathan Buck for the degree of Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing presented on April 20, 2005. Title: Always Talk to Strangers Abstract approved: Redacted for Privacy Marjorie Sandor Always Talk to Strangers contains the first seven chapters to a novel. The novel focuses on the friendship between Amanda and Maria, two fourteen-year-old girls who are experiencing their last summer before high school in Madison, Wisconsin. Their friendship is a complicated one: Maria was kidnapped four years ago, the same sunmier that Amanda's father abandoned Amanda and her mother. These best friends must deal with various forms of loss: the loss of sexual innocence, the loss or "reinterpretation" of traditional father figures, the loss of believing in that ever elusive "happily ever after." The relationships in Always Talk to Strangers often grow and transform through subtle psychic undercurrents. Many thoughts and feelings of sadness, hope, and betrayal travel between the characters not through words but through body language and the innate understanding that we all carry our pasts with us. Our pasts, indeed, haunt us like ghosts: Amanda and Maria don't often verbally discuss the kidnapping or Amanda's father; Amanda and her mother don't discuss theman they've both lost, or their respective problems with marijuana and alcohol abuse; Amanda's mother and grandmother don't discuss their different religious and spiritual belief systems. Always Talk to Strangers is, in the end, a coming-of-age novel that shows us we are all composed of contradicting emotions and desires. -

NO GIGS DOES NOT HAVE to MEAN NO MUSIC. the Ultimate ‘Mixtape’ to Help Get You Through Covid-19 Isolation
NO GIGS DOES NOT HAVE TO MEAN NO MUSIC. The ultimate ‘mixtape’ to help get you through Covid-19 isolation. We wanted to put something out there to share some love at the moment, to give a bit of an escape to everyone in this absolutely bizarre time that we all find ourselves in. So here it is! A 100% free compilation with just 200+ songs! All the tracks have been donated and used with permission. If you dig a song, please check out the band, ‘Like’ their Facebook page, let them know and share the love with others. Please remember after isolation is done, also support the bands by going and seeing them live! There are songs crossing all sorts of genres including psych, fuzz, stoner, grunge, doom, sludge, punk, hardcore, grind, death, thrash, heavy rock, garage, a few acoustic tracks for good measure, and more. Massive thanx to all the bands involved, as well as a few others that have helped reach out to bands they work with and do amazing things in the industry, including: - Chris Maric (Maric Media) - Warren Gibson (Plug Music Agency / Mongrel Records) 1 | NO GIGS DOES NOT HAVE TO MEAN NO MUSIC - Anthony Blayney (Your Mate Bookings) - Richard S Jones (Sheltered Life PR) - Tim Price (Collision Course) - Dan Williams (Wild Animals Records) - Jeff Byrd (Pig Baby Records) - Désirée Hanssen (Lay Bare Recordings) - Nadia Lloyd (band management) + Mike Foxall (The Art Of Fox - for the ‘No Gigs Does Not Have To Mean No Music’ Album art) and as this turned into such a massive undertaking, anyone I have forgotten, thank you. -
Nick Oliveri - Interview - Music | Thevine.Com.Au Nick Oliveri - Interview
Nick Oliveri - interview - Music | thevine.com.au http://www.thevine.com.au/music/articles/nick-oliveri-_-interview.aspx Nick Oliveri - interview Posted in MUSIC (http://www.thevine.com.au/music/) by Andrew (http://www.thevine.com.au/member/andrew/) on Oct 07, 06:00AM (#) Rock wildman Nick Oliveri is known as the (once) more openly maniacal half of Queens Of The Stone Age. Anyone who has followed his career more closely knows that the 2004 dethroning could n’t stop him. Not only did he play for desert rock icons Kyuss before joining Josh Homme in QOTSA, but since then he’s been involved in some searing punk acts (Moistboyz, The Knives, The Dwarves, The Uncontrollable), as well as dropping in on the Desert Sessions and Eagles Of Death Metal albums. And let’s not forget his psychotic primary project Mondo Generator. Earlier this year, he visited alone – guitar in hand – ready to wreck Australian stages in an acoustic setting. Yes, Nick Oliveri has unplugged. No one really expected dreamy finger-picking and soothing melodies, but he made certain that they didn’t leave without seeing the whites of his eyes – playing screaming covers of brawny tunes from his own projects and some punk classics. Then he released an album of them, the raw, ragged Death Acoustic . He’s already back, so big is the love. It’s no coincidence that his acoustic tour crosses paths with long-time partners-in-crime The Dwarves but he’s achieved a feat in getting Blackie from cult heroes The Hard-Ons to try his hand at bare strumming as well.
