Chris Sullivan & Taylors Message Chris was drafted by the New England Patriots in 1996. He earned a Super Bowl XXXVI ring in 2001 and should have been on top of the world, but while he was battling other teams on the field, he was battling his own demons inside. His addiction to drugs and alcohol took over his life and largely led him to retire from the NFL in 2002. Today, Chris shares his unforgettable story about the dangers of alcohol and drugs with young people across the country. After a night of binge drinking and poor choices at a series of underage drinking parties, Kathi Sullivan's 17 yr old daughter Taylor found herself alone in the woods and drowned in only two feet of water. They found her 3 days later. Two months later Kathi started sharing Taylor’s story with students and parents in hopes that her message would enlighten others on the dangers of underage drinking and poor choices. Passionate about reaching students' hearts and minds, she simply shares with students what happened that night, how it could have been prevented and how Taylor’s death has affected her family, Taylor’s friends and the community. Championship rings are king at pawnshops, where they’re exchanged for cold cash. 72 ALL ABOUT THE MONEY BROCK WILLIAMS ISN’T happy to hear from me. I’ve tracked down the obscure former Patriots cornerback to ask about the Super Bowl XXXVI ring he pawned a decade ago for $2,600. “Ah, man, that was a bad time,” he says over the phone, let- ting the space between his words linger. “I’m just trying to put that all behind me.” Unfortunately for Williams, that’s hard to do when America sees your ring every week in the opening montage of the hit TV show Pawn Stars, harder still when celebrity pawnbroker Rick Harrison brags about being the guy who has it. Gold, cars, Rolexes … yawn. But a Super Bowl ring? “You want the thing a guy worked his whole life to get,” says Harrison. His Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas is a window onto our times, with Harrison the appraiser of our excess. Desperate people populate his tales, many of them jocks. There was the time in 1999, for instance, when IBF super featherweight champ Diego Corrales, who was reckless in the ring and with his money, traded in his title belt. “I think I gave him $1,500 and sold it ﬁve months later for $3,000,” Harrison says. Sports April 27, 2018 Early in John Elway’s time as Denver Broncos general manager, he hit some home runs in the draft. That hasn’t been the case lately, especially when it comes to offensive players. As a result, the Broncos haven’t made the playoffs the past two seasons. Say this about Elway’s 2018 draft class: It’s not short on star power. The Broncos started the draft with three players who made names for themselves in college. In the first round, pass rusher Bradley Chubb fell to the Broncos and it became an easy pick. In the second round, Denver took SMU receiver Courtland Sutton, a big and athletic playmaker who might be a bit raw, but could be a No. 1 receiver at a discount draft price if he develops. And then the Broncos, who needed a running back after cutting C.J. Anderson, landed Oregon’s Royce Freeman in the third round. Freeman is big, fast, had a great college career as the Ducks’ all-time leading rusher. Their final third-round pick of the night, Boston College cornerback Isaac Yiadom, isn’t an instant star but he fills a need. Nothing says any of those top three picks are going to work out. Shane Ray was a great pass-rushing prospect when the Broncos took him in the first round, and now he’s practically done in Denver. Montee Ball had a monster college career and was Denver’s second-round pick in 2013, and he flamed out fast.
