  • New York Giants 2012 Season Recap 2012 New York Giants
NEW YORK GIANTS 2012 SEASON RECAP The 2012 Giants finished 9-7 and in second place in the NFC East. It was the eighth consecutive season in which the Giants finished .500 or better, their longest such streak since they played 10 seasons in a row without a losing record from 1954-63. The Giants finished with a winning record for the third consecutive season, the first time they had done that since 1988-90 (when they were 10-6, 12-4, 13-3). Despite extending those streaks, they did not earn a postseason berth. The Giants lost control of their playoff destiny with back-to-back late-season defeats in Atlanta and Baltimore. They routed Philadelphia in their finale, but soon learned they were eliminated when Chicago beat Detroit. The Giants compiled numerous impressive statistics in 2012. They scored 429 points, the second-highest total in franchise history; the 1963 Giants scored 448. The 2012 season was the fifth in the 88-year history of the franchise in which the Giants scored more than 400 points. The Giants scored a franchise- record 278 points at home, shattering the old mark of 248, set in 2007. In their last three home games – victories over Green Bay, New Orleans and Philadelphia – the Giants scored 38, 52 and 42 points. The 2012 team allowed an NFL-low 20 sacks. The Giants were fourth in the NFL in both takeaways (35, four more than they had in 2011) and turnover differential (plus-14, a significant improvement over 2011’s plus-7). The plus-14 was the Giants’ best turnover differential since they were plus-25 in 1997.

Cities across the cotintry compete for the right to host this prestigious event. The reputation of such an occasion has caused an increase in demand and price for tickets, making attendance nearly impossible for the average fan. As a result, the National Football League has implemented free events for local residents and out-of-town visitors. This, along with broadcasting the game, creates an inclusive environment for all fans, leaving a lasting legacy in the world of professional sports. This paper explores the growth of the Super Bowl from a novelty game to one of the country' s most popular professional sporting events. Acknowledgements First, and foremost, I would like to thank my parents for their unending support. Thank you for allowing me to try new things and learn from my mistakes. Most importantly, thank you for believing that I have the ability to achieve anything I desire. Second, I would like to thank my brother for being an incredible role model.

BY SHAUN ASSAEL ADDICTED TO PAWN PHOTOGRAPHS BY WILLIAM MEBANE WHEN ATHLETES CAN’T KEEP UP WITH THEIR LUXE LIFESTYLE, THEY KNOW WHERE TO GO FOR A LOAN. Championship rings are king at pawnshops, where they’re exchanged for cold cash. 72 ALL ABOUT THE MONEY BROCK WILLIAMS ISN’T happy to hear from me. I’ve tracked down the obscure former Patriots cornerback to ask about the Super Bowl XXXVI ring he pawned a decade ago for $2,600. “Ah, man, that was a bad time,” he says over the phone, let- ting the space between his words linger. “I’m just trying to put that all behind me.” Unfortunately for Williams, that’s hard to do when America sees your ring every week in the opening montage of the hit TV show Pawn Stars, harder still when celebrity pawnbroker Rick Harrison brags about being the guy who has it. Gold, cars, Rolexes … yawn. But a Super Bowl ring? “You want the thing a guy worked his whole life to get,” says Harrison. His Gold & Silver Pawn Shop in Las Vegas is a window onto our times, with Harrison the appraiser of our excess. Desperate people populate his tales, many of them jocks. There was the time in 1999, for instance, when IBF super featherweight champ Diego Corrales, who was reckless in the ring and with his money, traded in his title belt. “I think I gave him $1,500 and sold it five months later for $3,000,” Harrison says. In another sad case, long jumper Joe Greene ventured into Harrison’s store in 2003 with the bronze medal he’d won at the Atlanta Olympics Fittingly, Budd set up shop in seven years earlier.

PRO FOOTBALL HALL OF FAME TEACHER ACTIVITY GUIDE 2019-2020 EDITIOn SEATTLE SEAHAWKS Team History When the Seattle Seahawks took the field for the first time in the 1976 season, it marked the culmination of a quest for a National Football League franchise that had its roots in the Pacific Northwest metropolis as early as 1957. That is when discussion first began about the possibilities of constructing a domed stadium that would assure a major league sports franchise for the city. On June 4, 1974, the NFL awarded its 28th franchise to Seattle to play in the 64,984-seat Kingdome. A civic suggestion campaign netted 20,365 entries and 1,741 different names, but “Seahawks” was selected and announced on June 17, 1975. Just a little more than two months later, after a 27-day sale, the season ticket campaign was shut off with 59,000 tickets sold. On January 3, 1976, Jack Patera, who had been a Minnesota assistant coach, was named the team’s first head coach. The Seahawks finished 2-12 in 1976, when they played in the NFC, and 5-9 in 1977, when they moved into the AFC. The Seahawks had winning 9-7 records in both 1978 and 1979 and Patera was named NFL Coach of the Year the second year. The strike-shortened 1982 season proved to be a transitional year for all of pro football, but no club fit the transitional description better than the Seahawks. Patera was removed after six-plus years as head coach. Mike McCormack finished the season as interim head coach and then was replaced in 1983 by Chuck Knox, who guided the Seahawks to an 83-67-0 record in nine seasons up through the 1991 campaign.
