Western Stars by Bruce Springsteen Western Stars by Bruce Springsteen A new album from the Boss is always an event, but this is something a bit special. Western Stars sees him channelling Glen Campbell and Burt Bacharach among others in a widescreen homage to Westerns. It’s Bruce taking a bold new direction down well-travelled roads. Rumours that Bruce has been through writer’s block give writers everywhere a boost when the results are an album of easy-listening gold. There’s all the storyteller Springsteen as usual with beautiful arrangements and orchestration. This is rock-pop infused with Country tales of mortality. Bruce, who is nearing his 70th birthday, doesn’t sugar coat life. Track by track is steeped in empathy for small lives written large. The song Tucson Train has Bruce’s trademark lyrics “We fought hard over nothing. We fought till nothing remained” Sleepy Joe’s Cafe sounds like a song of The Mavericks. Apart from that, this record has more in common with Tunnel of Love. Other stand-out tracks are Stones and Hello Sunshine. It’s a bit left-field, but I think it will become a fan favourite. There’s also a connection between this record andThe Rising; both were when he had nothing to prove but he had something to say. We can only hope that he tours this album. After his stint on Broadway, he might prefer smaller venues. We can only hope he hasn’t lost that fire. Thomas McGovern Thomas McGovern writes short stories and lives in Derrylin.

2020-09-10 14:10 CEST Idag släpper Bruce Springsteen och the E Street Band “Letter To You” – titelspåret från kommande albumet Den 23 oktober släpper Bruce Springsteen tillsammans med the E Street Band albumet ”Letter To You”. ”Letter To You” blir första gången Springsteen spelar med the E Street Band sedan The River turnén 2016. Bruce Springsteen själv säger; “I love the emotional nature of Letter To You. And I love the sound of the E Street Band playing completely live in the studio, in a way we’ve never done before, and with no overdubs. We made the album in only five days, and it turned out to be one of the greatest recording experiences I’ve ever had.” Se videon till titelspåret “Letter To You” här. Se YouTube-videon här Mer Bruce Bruce Springsteen’s recording career spans over 40 years, beginning with 1973's ‘Greetings from Asbury Park, NJ’ (Columbia Records).

"Miss, there's no one to meet you," said the conductor, rather anxiously. "I wired my brother," she replied. "The train being so late−− perhaps he grew tired of waiting. He will be here presently. But, if he should not come−−surely I can find a hotel?" "There's lodgings to be had. Get the station agent to show you. If you'll excuse me−−this is no place for a lady like you to be alone at night. It's a rough little town−−mostly Mexicans, miners, cowboys. And they carouse a lot. Besides, the revolution across the border has stirred up some excitement along the line. Miss, I guess it's safe enough, if you−−" "Thank you. I am not in the least afraid." As the train started to glide away Miss Hammond walked towards the dimly lighted station. As she was about to enter she encountered a Mexican with sombrero hiding his features and a blanket mantling his shoulders. "Is there any one here to meet Miss Hammond?" she asked. "No sabe, Senora," he replied from under the muffling blanket, and he shuffled away into the shadow.

  • Cw Bayer Lyrics and Chords from the Land of Sage & Pine
songs for rdesertats lyrics and chords from the land of sage & pine cw bayer SONGS FOR DESERT RATS Introduction “Desert rat” lyric is about and for anyone who goes out there. It includes cowboy and mining song. As a child I spent much time in the desert, gazing up at castles in the rocks, wandering rabbit trails. I remember my family moving to the desert and experiencing our first desert snowfall during the winter of 1954–how we ran around in wonder throwing snowballs. As a teen, my friends and I called ourselves “desert rats”—not realizing the past to that term. As a young man, I moved to the Nevada desert, resolved to write cowboy songs. For over 40 years, playing music in Nevada, I’ve written desert rat lyrics. I’ve come to see that going out there in Nevada is a perennial quest— based in the landscape and a certain wonder, something one embraces with provisions and a feeling for dust and sunlight. Along the way, in the wake of researching mining verse, I discovered the history of desert rat lyrics. As I write about in my collection, “Rhymes From The Silver State—historical lyrics”, desert rat lyrics flourished in Nevada from about 1905 to about 1932. Like mining verse, desert rat lyrics are often vernacular—in slang. They arose as mining verse declined. By the 1880s, although they had pioneered American settlement of the far West, miners were being devalued as heroes of the West. Ranchers and later cowboys were coming to the fore as heroes, particularly in the Southwest.

Course Title: Bruce Springsteen: America’s Poet Laureate—an in-depth appreciation; Spring 2020, Lafayette, Tuesdays, 1-3, 3/31-5/5 “…. Last Thursday, at the Harvard Square theatre, I saw my rock’n’roll past flash before my eyes. And I saw something else: I saw rock and roll future and its name is Bruce Springsteen. And on a night when I needed to feel young, he made me feel like I was hearing music for the very first time…” Jon Landau, 1974. Landau would go on to become Bruce’s manager. He didn’t believe Springsteen’s music was simply retro soul and rock and roll, but that he took his musical influences, i.e. Presley, Berry, Orbison, Spector and Dylan, and formed his own distinctive sound. Springsteen didn’t reinvent rock and roll; he made his own stamp and developed his own signature. Just as you can listen to any Berry song and say,” that’s the Chuck Berry sound.” you can listen to a Bruce song and say “that’s the Springsteen sound.” Course description: This is a six-week course. The instructor will break the course up chronologically into six distinct periods in the life and career of Bruce Springsteen, now 70, from his birth in 1949 to the present, celebrating 50 years—and counting--in what may be the most remarkable career in rock and roll. Each session will include: Week-by-Week Course Outline and Syllabus *suggested reading, viewing (for entire course) and listening (by week): Reading: Born to Run: The Bruce Springsteen Story, Dave Marsh, 1979 Springsteen, Robert Hilburn, 1985 Glory Days: Bruce Springsteen in the 1980s, Dave Marsh, 1987.

Since his 2016 The River Tour, the 70-year-old music legend has written a 500-page autobiography, produced and starred- in a Broadway show, and released his sixteenth studio album (Western Stars) with an accompanying film. Around the same time, music critic Peter Carlin and CUNY literary critic Marc Dolan both released massive Springsteen biographies, McGill University began publishing The Boss: An Online-Journal of Springsteen Studies, and Rutgers University Press released Long Walk Home, an anthology of recent Springsteen scholarship. Public historians are also embracing the resurgence of work on Springsteen’s life and legacy. In November 2019, the Monmouth County Historical Association (MCHA) in Freehold, in conjunction with The Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music at Monmouth University, opened its exhibit “Springsteen: His Hometown.” This is not the first time a museum has devoted an exhibit to Springsteen. For example, in 2009, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Museum staged an exhibit titled “From Asbury Park to the Promised Land: The Life and Music of Bruce Springsteen.” In 2012, this exhibit moved to the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia.
