The guidance of the Northern Fisheries Centre steering committee (Dr. Robert Coles, Dr. Neil Gribble, Dr John Russell, Mr Clive Turnbull, Mr Geoff McPherson and Ms Angela Reid) was instrumental in developing this study. The committee also provided comment on survey methods and analysis of the data. This project would not have been possible without the participation of staff at the Northern Fisheries Centre and the Oonoonba District Office of Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation. Ms Sue Helmke was instrumental in establishing the project and developing the methods with the steering committee. The project was made possible through Ms Helmke’s regular operational and administrative assistance throughout the life of the project. Special thanks go to Sharon Cislowski who provided volunteer assistance in the field, laboratory and office often giving up her weeknights and weekends to assist without complaint. The Queensland Fisheries Management Authority supplied information on the commercial and recreational fisheries.
