Ashburton Meats Under 11 Black Under 11 Black Coach: Matt Burns We have a very strong motto in the Ashy u11 blacks and that is GOOD TEAMS FIND A WAY, GOOD PLAYERS FIND A TEAM MATE but I think we may need to add a bit to that motto for wet days and that is "IN THE WET”. Because if you can find a way in the wet, you can find a way anywhere. Today we FOUND A WAY IN THE WET!! After a very slow start, the boys finally got out of their Pyjama's and turned up to play footy. There was some outstanding performances from our regulars but also the lift of all players right across the group has been amazing. We are continuing to focus on our "run on" style of footy and it was great to see that the boys were not afraid to try some flow on team passages of play in the trying the conditions. Once again , every player contributed and played a part in the great win against Banyule. Great captains game by Ned THE Chisel Chesler who continues to find the ball and our Opposition medal winner Oscar White just had a day out. We’ll continue to push that flow on style of footy and never forget what means the most to us and that is the love of the game and a great team. Goal of the Day Plenty to choose from but Harry The Hyphens goal after such a hard fought game was hard to go past One in particular was Cappa grabbing the ball out of the centre and runs towards the goal. He props and kicks a short pass to Josh Webb who marks at centre half Play of the Day forward. Josh see’s Tommy leading out from the goal and hits Tommy on the chest. Tommy spins and sees Whitey leading out wide and slices a worm burner straight to Whitey who plays on and kicks straight to the front of the goals where Ronan was waiting with open hands and took a great overhead mark. NOW THAT’S FOOTY!!!!! Mark of the Day Ronans Over head mark in the last quarter that topped of a great team play Best Team Player Oscar White puts himself on the line every game for his team Deliver Colts Black Colts Black Coach: Matthew Blizzard The blacks walked out onto a great environment for playing football - Rain with a soft and muddy ground to face of with third on the ladder - Invanhoe. The contest was on from the first bounce, with what turned out to be - 2 very evenly sides hitting out. Only 6 goals scored in the game with Invanhoe just holding on to take a 2 point win. The win eluded us - however; the spirt of our endeavour and caricature in which this team played through to the final siren was fantastic to see and be apart of. Given that this is only the 3rd time this team has played together - they are improving week by week - and todays lesson in wet weather football was one well learned by all of us. Well done team - it was a great effort. We will have another chance at Invanhoe before the end of the season. Chloe had her best game for a year with some great work in defence as Blacky's midfield kept pumping the ball into their forwardline. Pleasingly the girls fought it out until the final siren. Final score Ashy 4-3-27 defeated by Blackburn 12-19-91 Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Blackburn 1.4-10 5.8-38 11.14-80 12.19-91 Results Ashburton 1.2-8 3.2-20 3.3-21 4.3-27 Best Players Chloe Gemma Steph Alyssa Millie Goals Respondent skipped this question Goal of the Day Allyanna against play with a long shot on the run from 40 out. Play of the Day Respondent skipped this question Mark of the Day Steph a strong overhead mark in the backline Best Team Player Chloe - putting her body on the line to try and halt Blackburn's forward onslaught Under 8 White Under 8 White Coach: Tim Schleiger WINTER IS COMING! It was a grey and dreary morning at Ferrie oval against local rivals the Glen Iris Gladiators. Not long after the first bounce, the rains started and it was a mad dash by the spectators to secure some shelter under their trusty umbrellas. The conditions on field were slippery, but to their credit, the boys were still able to use the ball cleanly without many mishandles or mistakes. It was the boys first match on a "full sized oval". They demonstrated the value of perseverance and hard running over the slightly larger than normal distances. The final quarter in particular was a frenzy of goals shared by all the forwards who capitalised on some brilliant centre clearances. If only Goal Umpire Dee had as many at the opposition's end to show off her practiced and perfected flag waving skills. A well earned rest for the boys this weekend. Team Q1 Q2 Q3 Q4 Results No Results are recorded at this level Best Players Jamie Polson - medal recipient. He has improved out of sight and his tackling was consistently excellent. Goals Not recorded Goal of the Day Perpetual goal kicking sensation Jordan Katiforis was at it again! But his snap goal in the third quarter was the best of his bunch. Play of the Day Walter Adams stole the show with his trademark "selling candy" manoeuvre in the forward line. Mark of the Day Luke Suckling took a courageous mark in the backline; reversing into the pack. Best Team Player Joey Dee has improved lots and was really in amongst the play today. Well Done Joey POPE PACKAGING Under 9 Red Under 9 Red Coach: Matt Pietsch Shark Park lived up to its name with some big fish on the opposition keeping our boys under constant attack. The redbacks stuck together and focused on the message of hard ball gets, run & kick to space, stand tall on the mark, and looks for your team mates. Tom Verge started the game off with pivotal touches through the midfield, with Jackson coming of the bench early to give the team a boost and continued this on for the day, Tyson Fernee was rested in the first quarter but he hit the opposition hard when he came on the ground with some tough and goal saving tackles, Henry was marking well all day while Thomas Davies & Ollie Pietsch were tackling hard and given off effective possessions. Evan McVey was again busy racking up possessions across the ground while Jonty & Dozer eased their way into the game with a big last quarter efforts. Man of the match Bailey Currie worked hard to inspire the team with some hard ball gets and was well supported by Taylor Carlisle & Ben Jones. Emerging key forward Hugo Monkovitch was solid again all day and Josh Eardley & Josh McLoughlin persisted all day with some timely touches. Charlie Ryan & Ollie Grogan roved the packs well and brought their team mates into the game by hand and foot.
