Neal Preston Neal Preston’s career spans more than 40 years. Preston’s legendary music images include some of the most memorable ever made of rock’s most iconic stars. His photographs have appeared in ¬every conceivable media outlet: on the covers and pages of world-class magazines and newspapers, to books, television shows, feature films, Broadway show programs and billboards, vinyl, CD and DVD packages … literally everywhere. His client list is a virtual who’s-who of rock royalty. His archive, a body of work spanning over four decades, is regarded as one of the music industry’s most extensive and significant photo collections. It was the key source of photographs for VH-1’s acclaimed “Behind the Music” documentary series, providing over one thousand still photos used in 50 episodes. Rock fans best know Preston as the legendary photographer who has toured with Led Zeppelin, The Who, Queen, Fleetwood Mac, Bruce Springsteen, and countless others. In 1985, Preston was chosen as one of the official photographers for Bob Geldof’s “Live Aid” concert at London’s Wembley Stadium. In 1988 his association with Bruce Springsteen helped land him the job as official tour photographer for Amnesty International’s landmark “Conspiracy of Hope” tour. Aside from his elite status as one of music’s most important photographers, Neal Preston has done much more than shoot musicians. He is also a gifted sports photographer, the most-assigned photojournalist in the history of People Magazine, with almost 700 shoot days to his credit, and a member of the International Cinematographers Guild, for which he worked as the unit and special photographer for feature films like “Almost Famous” and “Vanilla Sky.” [email protected] Page 1 of 1 www.bertelsmann.com .

RoscoLED Tape Illuminates Neal Preston’s Rock’n’Roll Hurricane Neal Preston is a world renowned music photographer who has portrayed almost every rock legend of the past four decades. He has accompanied many iconic personalities on their tours and captured some of the greatest rock moments – on and off stage – with his camera. Artists including: Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac, David Bowie, Bruce Springsteen, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Bob Marley and Tina Turner are amongst Neal’s impressive collection. As Led Zeppelin’s Robert Plant once said of Neal’s work: “whenever I see Neal shooting from the pit, I know his eye, I know he’ll be in the right place and when I see the photo later it will often feel just like it felt to me onstage – except larger, with an echo of sound and fury.” Thanks to the touring exhibition “Neal Preston – In the Eye of the Rock’n’Roll Hurricane,” visitors get to view several of Neal’s iconic photographs and experience the “echoes of sound and fury” that Plant described. Originally organised by Rosco’s dealer Lightpower, the exhibit has attracted a large number of enthusiastic visitors in Las Vegas, Stockholm, at the Montreux Jazz Festival, and at the Musikmesse Frankfurt Fair. Art Director Andreas Witt’s concept for lighting the photographs included a glowing background with each photograph illuminated by its own spotlight. Witt discovered Rosco’s VariWhite RoscoLED Tape and not only found that it could be easily mounted and adapted for touring, but its high output made it the perfect choice for the backlit walls.

Neal Preston about his life “YOU HAVE THE WORLD’S GREATEST JOB” I’ve heard that said a lot and the older I get, the more I hear it. For a long time I never believed it – I was too busy working. But “running around shooting rock stars” is both a gross simplification and an exact description of how I’ve spent the lion’s share of my past 35 to 40 years. I have a room in my house with nothing in it but file cabinets – 31 of them, in fact. Each cabinet has four drawers; each drawer is crammed with Pendaflex folders holding proof sheets, negatives, and transparencies. That’s 124 file cabinet drawers, every one of them bursting at the seams. I have come to realize that it’s not only my body of work; it’s physical proof that I do have “the world’s greatest job.” ON THE ROAD I’m not sure if it’s still around, but there used to be a motel in Salina, Kansas, that was adjacent to the railroad tracks. During one summer in the late 1970s I rolled into Salina as a passenger on REO Speedwagon’s tour bus after God knows how many hours of being awake – chemically induced awake time, of course – with eye-blazing, head-pounding pain, and a Fort Knox-level sinus blockage being the Maraschino cherry on the hangover sundae special. Time to off-load the bus, roll into my room, grab whatever tiny little piece of “drapery” that’s left in the room (I never understood why all the world’s cheap motels have the thinnest material that they use for drapes, and this stuff rips and shreds as if the atmosphere was made up of oxygen and X-Acto knife blades) and try to cover up every square inch of the “window” (an ancient piece of filthy glass in a frame) before turning on the air conditioner (which hasn’t had a can of Freon, or any servicing at all, since its installation) in a hopeless attempt to cool the room down to at least 90 degrees.

PRESS RELEASE Neal Preston Exhibition at Gütersloh Theater Ends with Record Attendance Photographic portraits of Rock’n’Roll legends drew more than 10,000 visitors Supporting program with lectures, reading, photography workshop and live music was very well popular Gütersloh, November 28, 2016 – The photo exhibition “Neal Preston – In the Eye of the Rock’n’Roll Hurricane” attracted more than 10,000 visitors to Gütersloh Theater in a single month, making it one of the city’s most successful exhibitions ever. Until Sunday, 70 impressive photo portraits of Rock’n’Roll greats like Led Zeppelin, Queen, Mick Jagger, The Who and Bruce Springsteen, taken by the renowned documentary photographer Neal Preston over the course of four decades, were on display at the exhibition brought to the theater by Bertelsmann, Lightpower Collection, and Kultur Räume Gütersloh. The big crowds are not only a testament to the quality of the images, but also to the unbroken appeal of Rock’n’Roll. Audio stations and film clips featuring accompanying interviews, music, and stories brought the world of the stage to life and were intensively used by visitors. Gütersloh Theater and its partners Bertelsmann and Lightpower Collection also had full houses for the exhibition’s supporting program. For instance, the theater’s studio stage was packed when Neal Preston spoke about his eventful life on the world’s biggest stages and festivals. A reading from the book “The Rolling Stone Years” by actor Benno Fürmann had to be moved into the theater’s auditorium so that more tickets could be sold. A concert photography workshop and an evening of music with young bands from the region also attracted numerous participants and visitors.
