I AM HAPPY TO TELL YOU THAT HE CONFIRMED IT REALLY WAS CHLC-580 THAT YOU HEARD

Mr. Kermit Geary R.F.D. " L Walnut Port, Penn. U.S.A.

Dear sir;

Thank you very much for your nice letter of January 21st, 1952, I was very glad to receive it.

I appreciate very much your report; I might add, it baffles me. Our station at night directs its waves com- pletely in north of Quebec. Coming Back to yoar letter, you were positively listining to CKVM, operating on a frequency of 710 kilocycles, and 1,000 watts.

The day mentionned on your letter (January 20th, 1952) and the following log of the programs, are a good proof that you were really listening to Radio Station CKVM. The french announcer was.Mr. Marcel Ladouceur.

We are the only french station in North America, to broadcast on 710 kilocycles. "ici Radio Temiscamingue" is our french identification at Ville -marie, P. Q. Any way, your rport checks out o.k. with what we really broadcasted.

Here are some notes on our equipment. We have on hand a Gates Transmitter BC1F power 1000 watts, non -directional on day and directional at night, time operation, pitching in north-western Quebec and Ontario. We also have three towers 233 ft; 900 ft above sea level. The transmitter is situated at a quarter of a mile from the Ottawa River, and two and a half miles at the east of the station. Ville -Marie is a little town of about 1500 peoples, but with our 1,000 watts, we have over 200,000 listeners.

So, once again, we thank you. Your report was very much appreciated, and we hope to hear from you very soon if you tune on us again.

Dear Sir:

I acknowledge receipt of your DX report and I thank you very much for it. We are glad to know that you were pleased with our special DX program dedicated to the members of NRC and NMRC.

The informations you sent us back will be very useful to our engineering department which will make a thorough analysis of the contain. You and most of the DXers noticed some interference caused by Station XEQR or XEQK in Mexico City, also operating on 1350 kcs. According to the majority of the reports made by DXers, we finally came up to the conclusion that XEQR or XEQK might have occasionally been as strong or stronger than our own station, but also that some of you DXers probably got mixed up by our Spanish announcements also made occasionally through our whole program. Of course it also depends on the strength of our signal in your own locality compared to XEQR's or XEQK's.

Anyway, your report was right in all its extent and we thoroughly controlled the details therein as being correct.

Consequently, many thanks for the wonderful cooperation brought to make our test program a real success and best wishes to you personally,

Yours very truly,

Program Director.

Feb. 18, 19 81. Mr. Kermit Geary, Box 321, Walnutport, PA. Dear Mr. Geary; As you can understand, we like to reply to DXer's since their reports are of interest to us, regarding the whereabouts of our signal. I don't know why your previous letter was unanswered, unless we did not receive it. Anyway, delighted to hear from you (again? ). As I mentioned to your fellow club member, we have just moved our transmitter site so your reports are especially valuable now. We have two AM licenses (unique in Canada) in relatively the same back yard, and both stations radiate from the same towers. CJMR is a daytime only operation while CHWO goes 24 hours. We have been in the process of proving our new patterns and having troubles in one location where the signal was supposed to be cut back, but appeared on the meters stronger than ever. The trouble was finally located in a concrete bridge, braced internally with steel. The bridge apparently is reflecting our signal into what is supposed to be a null. Our engineers, in co-operation with the Department of Transport, Dept. of Highways etc. etc. , are now tuning the bridge so it will not pick up our signal, and bounce it. Thanks again for letting us know CJMR is in Walnutport.

Dear Sir,

We received with great pleasure your letter dated March 7,

showing that our station reached you, in Walnutport.

The description of the signal strength your give us means that

the signal, at that time, was very good. Of course, we cannot assure you

of a continuous good signal, because your location is quite far from here,

and away from our normal radiation pattern direction.

We are operating on 1060 Ke/s, with a power of 5000 watt?,

and a directional radiation pattern directed towards a line 600 East of

True North.

According to our program logs, the description you are giving us

about our programs is right, and we are sure you were actually tuned to

our station.

We are enclosing herewith a copy of our contour map which indi-

cates our coverage to a certain extent. Our signal goes much further a-

Kermit Geary (18088) R.D. 2, Box 298 Wa lnutport Pennsylvania, U.S.A.

Dear Mr. Geary:

We were very pleased to hear from you pnce again. We would like to thank you for your patience in waiting for a reply from us. The reason for the delay was because there was a big change in the staff of CFSE, Our Manager, Chief Announcer, and our Secretary were all changed. In the change, there was a mis- placement of many DX Reports, yours being one of them. But, now we have straightened nearly everything out and have started to reply to you and your fellow DXeers.

After a check of our log, we are very pleased to verify your reception of CFSE on your mentioned dates. The following is a short summary of the technical features of our station:

1. 50 watts power output 2. AT3 transmitter 3. Long wire 225' mismatched to detune transmitter 4. 1450 Kc's assigned.

You stated that lately our DX programmes have not been picked up. The probable answer for this is that we just had our transmitter re -tuned and we are now right on 1450 Kc's. We have had many DXer's ask us if we had changed our position. The above is the reason for not picking us up. We are seriously thinking of putting DX programmes on every Saturday evenings but that is still in the planning stage.

For your own information, the new Manager is Flying Officer Cliff Cassidy, the new Chief Announcer is Tony Mauza, and the new Secretary is Al Harvie.

Once more we thank you for your patience in waiting for our reply and hope to hear from you and your fellow DXer's in the very near future. All the best in your future DXing.
