The Globalization Program 01:00 DW News - News 01:15 DocFilm Manufacturing Ignorance Asbestos, climate change, 5G, coronavirus - the public is caught in a battle for the truth. Science is being manipulated and undermined to sway opinion and create doubt. What are the mechanisms behind it all? Never has scientific knowledge seemed so vast, detailed and widely shared. And yet it appears to be increasingly challenged. It’s no longer surprising to see private corporations put strategies in place to confuse public debate and paralyze political decision-making. Why did it take decades to classify tobacco as harmful? Why do people still deny human involvement in climate change? Overwhelmed by an excess of information, how can we, as citizens, sort out fact from fiction? One by one, this film dismantles the machinations that aim to turn science against itself. With the help of declassified archives and testimonies from experts, lobbyists and politicians, this investigation plunges us into the science of doubt. Along with a team of experts, including philosophers, economists, cognitive scientists, politicians, and scholars, we explore concrete examples of how doubt can be sown, and try to understand the process. 02:00 DW News - News 02:02 Eco India - The Environment Magazine 02:30 In Good Shape - The Health Show 03:00 DW News - News 03:15 World Stories - The Week in Reports 03:30 Global 3000 - The Globalization Program 04:00 DW News - News 04:02 Faith Matters - The Church Program 04:30 Tomorrow Today - The Science Magazine 05:00 DW News - News 05:15 DocFilm Manufacturing Ignorance 06:00 DW News - News 06:30 Shift - Living in the Digital Age DW English | MON 2021-05-03 9/95 06:45 Reporter - On Location 07:00 DW News - News 07:30 Tomorrow Today - The Science Magazine 08:00 DW News - News 08:30 Business - News 08:45 Reporter - On Location 09:00 DW News - News 09:15 DocFilm Invisibles: Clickworkers 10:00 DW News - News 10:30 Business - News 10:45 World Stories - The Week in Reports 11:00 DW News - News 11:30 Global 3000 - The Globalization Program 12:00 DW News - News 12:30 Eco India - The Environment Magazine 13:00 DW News - News 13:30 DW News - Asia 13:45 Business - Asia 14:00 DW News - News 14:30 DW News - Asia 14:45 Business - Asia 15:00 DW News - News 15:30 Tomorrow Today - The Science Magazine 16:00 DW News - News 16:30 DW News - Asia 16:45 Business - Asia 17:00 DW News - News 17:15 Business - Africa 17:30 DW News - Asia 17:45 Arts and Culture - News DW English | MON 2021-05-03 10/95 18:00 DW News - News 18:30 Business - Africa 18:45 Arts and Culture - News 19:00 DW News - News 19:30 Close up - The Current Affairs Documentary The weekly half-hour program delivers in-depth reporting on topical political issues and newsworthy events. • Media Nations 2019
Media nations: UK 2019 Published 7 August 2019 Overview This is Ofcom’s second annual Media Nations report. It reviews key trends in the television and online video sectors as well as the radio and other audio sectors. Accompanying this narrative report is an interactive report which includes an extensive range of data. There are also separate reports for Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales. The Media Nations report is a reference publication for industry, policy makers, academics and consumers. This year’s publication is particularly important as it provides evidence to inform discussions around the future of public service broadcasting, supporting the nationwide forum which Ofcom launched in July 2019: Small Screen: Big Debate. We publish this report to support our regulatory goal to research markets and to remain at the forefront of technological understanding. It addresses the requirement to undertake and make public our consumer research (as set out in Sections 14 and 15 of the Communications Act 2003). It also meets the requirements on Ofcom under Section 358 of the Communications Act 2003 to publish an annual factual and statistical report on the TV and radio sector. This year we have structured the findings into four chapters. • The total video chapter looks at trends across all types of video including traditional broadcast TV, video-on-demand services and online video. • In the second chapter, we take a deeper look at public service broadcasting and some wider aspects of broadcast TV. • The third chapter is about online video. This is where we examine in greater depth subscription video on demand and YouTube.

  • 2014 Poll Conducted by the BBC World Service
EMBARGO 23:01 GMT 3 June 2014 Negative views of Russia on the Rise: Global Poll Views of Russia have strongly deteriorated since last year, as shown in the latest 24-country poll for BBC World Service conducted mostly before the events in Crimea. Feelings have become more negative in 13 countries polled, and are the most negative since the poll began in 2005. The poll also finds that views of the United States have worsened around the world, led by sharp increases in negative views among citizens of Spain (up 19 points), Germany (up 18 points) and Brazil (up 15 points). Views of the EU have also eroded, with perceptions of the institution being at their worst globally since the poll began and among European citizens in Spain, Germany, and France. In these three countries, negative ratings have increased (by respectively 19, 10, and 7 points), and positive ratings have simultaneously dropped (down 15, 11, and 5 points). Meanwhile, Germany has kept its position as the most positively viewed country, with 60 per cent worldwide giving it positive ratings. As in 2013, it is followed by Canada (57%), and the UK (56%). The UK is the country whose perceived influence in the world has most improved from 2005 to the present. Positive views towards the UK have gone up six points, from 52 to 58 per cent on average across the long-term tracking countries surveyed since the beginning of the poll. Negative ratings have simultaneously dropped eight points, from 29 to 21 per cent. Conversely, China’s perceived influence has worsened the most over the same decade.

  • War Crimes and International Humanitarian Law in Sri Lanka
\\jciprod01\productn\E\ELO\5-2\ELO203.txt unknown Seq: 1 24-SEP-13 7:48 LITMUS TEST OF OUR RESOLVE: WAR CRIMES AND INTERNATIONAL HUMANITARIAN LAW IN SRI LANKA BY ELIZABETH LEMAN In the aftermath of a conflict with high levels of civilian casualties or war crimes, Jeremy Sarkin writes that there are three goals that a government or international commission can prioritize in the applica- tion of international humanitarian law (IHL): truth, justice, and recon- ciliation.1 These may sound similar, but each requires very different things of the law and its administrators.2 If truth is the administration’s primary goal, then the powers that be must thoroughly examine all facets of the events that occurred with a single-minded dedication to fact, sometimes at the expense of intercommunity relations and the realities of reconstruction needs.3 If justice is chosen as the most im- portant course of action, its pursuit often leads to the neglect of inter- nal relations and reconciliation.4 Therefore, focusing on reconciliation can often seem the best option, but concentrating solely on rebuilding society can lead to a neglect of the past and its impact on individuals and the larger community.5 Of course, the objectives of IHL’s application will vary from situa- tion to situation, and may even encompass more than one of Sarkin’s goals, but how should those goals be determined and who should de- termine them – the country itself or the international community? Many post-conflict situations are left with inadequate, biased, or absent governments. Who then can make these decisions for a society? More- over, once a goal is defined, how should it be achieved?
