Jefferson Learning Center 1234 Kandiyohi Ave. SW • Willmar, 231-8490 www.willmarcer.com Happy Spring Willmar Residents:

Willmar Community Education & Recreation welcomes you to enjoy the many programs and opportunities in this catalog of offerings. We have many of the typical summer offerings like , and a variety of sports camps. The Dorothy Olson Aquatic Center is always a popular place on a hot summer day. With the slides and play equipment restored this past off season we are excited to see the reaction the users will have at that facility. The Yellow Bike Program is back for its second year and we are hoping it is enjoyed even more this year. Our slogan for that program is Ride, Respect, Return and that is what we hope the public will do. The intent is to have these bikes at over 20 yellow bike racks around town for people to use at their pleasure. Please honor this program by enjoying your ride, respecting the bike laws and returning the bike to a rack for the next person to use. If you see a Yellow Bike around town and not in a rack please call CER and we will relocate it to the nearest rack. This program runs from May through September. Rice Park will be getting a facelift this summer. We are excited to be planning the makeover of this park. The two biggest components of this plan is the installation of a Splash Pad and a Shelter. In addition 7 new playground units will be installed in 6 of our local parks. We hope all will enjoy the new amenities once they are open for use. Willmar will be completing the overlay project on Lakeland Drive North this summer. Once completed we will have bike lanes on both sides of Lakeland Drive North. This should provide safer routes for bikers to the Glacial Lakes Trail - head. Last fall we marked Ella Avenue for Share the Road between bicyclists and motorists. As we improve the infra - structure for bicyclists and pedestrians, please be more aware of their presence so our roads stay safe for all users. It is my pleasure to serve as your Community Education & Recreation Director. Please contact me if there is anything our department, City of Willmar or Willmar Public Schools can do to make your summer more enjoyable!

WCER, along with the Willmar Lakes Area Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, the Statewide Health Improvement Program and Jennie-O Turkey Store have teamed up to bring this wonderful program to our town. Many brightly colored yellow bikes and yellow bike racks will be placed around Willmar at convenient locations that people visit daily. The bikes remain un - locked, to be used during daylight hours, at no cost to the user. Our hope is that these bikes will be respected and well taken care of, so this service can stick around for many years to come. We want everyone to be able to enjoy a free ride!
