ML #2 18.17.0 Sixth graders may participate in any middle level program except football. ML #3 29.67.0 A middle level baseball team may use an extra hitter. ML #4 39.67.0 A middle level softball team may use an extra hitter. APPLY TO BOTH MIDDLE LEVEL AND HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL ML/HS #5 17.5.8 Coach may coach in one all state game and/or one All American game approved by the WIAA Executive Board. ML/HS #6 17.27.0 If a school withdraws from a jamboree within four days or less of the jamboree, the WIAA staff will work with the school to restructure. ML/HS #7 18.7.6 Incoming ninth graders are not required to meet the previous semester scholastic rule. ML/HS #8 18.20.0 With league approval, any 1B or 2B school may utilize eighth graders in team sports or in any sport if not offered at the middle level. HS AMENDMENT #1 4.2.0 HIGH SCHOOL CLASSIFICATIONS , page 6 Submitted by Northwest School, Overlake School, University Prep, Bush School and Forest Ridge. 4.2.0 HIGH SCHOOL CLASSIFICATIONS - High schools shall be classified as “4A”, “3A”, “2A”, “1A”, “2B” and "1B". “B”. Every four (4) years the enrollment parameters for each classification shall be adjusted to promote more equitable distribution in the number of schools. "4A", "3A", "2A", "1A", 17% and “B” shall each be 20% of the total schools based on 10-12 enrollment from the top down (largest to smallest). The parameters for distribution for the “2B” and "1B" classification shall be 16% of the remaining schools per classification . Rationale/Pros/Cons for HS Amendment #1: Returning from six classifications to five classifications would reestablish several desirable outcomes: 1. The advent of the six-classification system four years ago drastically altered the representation of 1A schools such that some 35 schools previously at the 2A level changed to the 1A level under the new six-classification system.

    Tacoma Athletic Commission Athlete of the Year April 2021 The Tacoma Athletic Commission, which serves all schools in Tacoma and Pierce County, proudly announces the Athletes of the Year for the Fall athletic season played during February and March. Twenty-six of the 34 high schools that play interscholastic athletics in the area participated in the program. Athletic Directors and coaches nominated one hundred and fifteen athletes. Eight members of the Athlete of the Year Committee deliberated in length because the talent pool was deep. There were many compelling narratives on why an individual student-athlete should be chosen. Athletes of the Year for tennis and golf will be chosen in the spring. The Tacoma Athletic Commission honors student-athletes three times a year at the end of each athletic season. In June, we award six scholarships to the most outstanding male and female athletes, the most inspirational, and the best multi-sport athletes. The TAC awards sport communication scholarships in honor of Clay Huntington as one of the Founders of the TAC and Stan Naccarato, whose service to the community is legendary. The TAC mission is to honor and celebrate amateur athletics in Pierce County. For 79 years, the Commission has supported various events that have made the community a more robust and better place to live.
