Manjinder Sirsa Urges ECI to Disqualify Six AAP Mlas by : INVC Team Published on : 5 Nov, 2017 05:48 PM IST Manjinder sirsa urges ECI to disqualify six AAP MLAs By : INVC Team Published On : 5 Nov, 2017 05:48 PM IST INVC NEWS New Delhi, Criminal proceedings should carried out against them: Sirsa The Shiromani Akali Dal and BJP combine MLA from Delhi Mr. Manjinder Singh Sirsa today urged the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take sue-moto notice of the action of the Six AAP MLAs and one former party leader of hiding their information regarding income and assets from ECI during filing of their affidavits for contesting the Delhi Assembly elections and disqualify them as soon as possible for their conduct. In a statement released here today, Mr. Sirsa also demanded that criminal proceedings should be carried out against these persons as the laid down procedure under the law for violation of Representation of Peoples Act. It is worth mentioning here that the conduct of these six MLAs and one former party leader can is violation of Section 125 (A) of the Representation of Peoples Act under which they can be imprisoned for six months or fine or both. Elaboration on the issue further Mr. Sirsa that it investigation conducted by a media house it has been revealed that six Aam Aadmi Party MLAs and one former AAP member hid their assets from the Election Commission. These leaders have not mentioned their involvement in private companies, valuing lakhs of rupees. The seven leaders include Cabinet Minister Kailash Gahlot, Asim Ahmed Khan , Adarsh Shastri, Mohd Yunus, Pramila Tokas, Rajesh Rishi and Kumar Vishwas. He disclosed that AAP MLA Adarsh Shastri, grandson of former PM Lal Bahadur Shastri was a director in a UK company, but failed to mention it in his 2015 election affidavit. Similarly AAP MLA Mohammad Yunus has shares in a company called the Federation of All India Haj Umrah Tour Organisers – which he did not mention in the affidavit. Cabinet minister Kailash Gahlot hid his shares in Rosy Builders Pvt Ltd and Superstar Innovation Pvt Ltd. Another AAP MLA Rajesh Rishi failed to mention his wife's directorship in the company Winner Electrotec Pvt Ltd and then claimed that his wife became a director in the firm after he had filed the affidavit with the poll panel. AAP MLA Pramila Tokas who did not reveal in the affidavit the shares that her husband owns in companies. Demanding immediate action from the ECI, Mr. Sirsa urged that action against these persons was must in the interest of justice and to keep strong faith of common man in Indian democracy. Lashing out at AAP Convener and Delhi Chief Minister Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, Mr. Sirsa wondered why he has maintained studded silence on the 'truths' of AAP which are not coming out one by one. He said that on one hand his leadership is found to be indulged in drug smuggling and now these facts have surfaced that these leaders not only openly violated the provisions of laid down law but are now justifying their illegal actions. He said that sooner than later he will have to answer the questions of the common man about such illegal activities and conduct of AAP leadership. The Author(s) 2013 An Indian summer: Reprints and permissions: sagepub.co.uk/journalsPermissions.nav Corruption, class, and DOI: 10.1177/1469540513498614 the Lokpal protests joc.sagepub.com Aalok Khandekar Department of Technology and Society Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, Maastricht University, The Netherlands Deepa S Reddy Anthropology and Cross-Cultural Studies, University of Houston-Clear Lake, USA and Human Factors International Abstract In the summer of 2011, in the wake of some of India’s worst corruption scandals, a civil society group calling itself India Against Corruption was mobilizing unprecedented nation- wide support for the passage of a strong Jan Lokpal (Citizen’s Ombudsman) Bill by the Indian Parliament. The movement was, on its face, unusual: its figurehead, the 75-year- old Gandhian, Anna Hazare, was apparently rallying urban, middle-class professionals and youth in great numbers—a group otherwise notorious for its political apathy. The scale of the protests, of the scandals spurring them, and the intensity of media attention generated nothing short of a spectacle: the sense, if not the reality, of a united India Against Corruption. Against this background, we ask: what shared imagination of cor- ruption and political dysfunction, and what political ends are projected in the Lokpal protests? What are the class practices gathered under the ‘‘middle-class’’ rubric, and how do these characterize the unusual politics of summer 2011? Wholly permeated by routine habits of consumption, we argue that the Lokpal protests are fundamentally structured by the impulse to remake social relations in the image of products and ‘‘India’’ itself into a trusted brand.

VIVEKANANDA INTERNATIONAL FOUNDATION 3, San Martin Marg, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi Ph: 011 24121764, 24106698 [email protected] Dear Sir/Madam, As you are aware, the India is passing through its toughest times, when graft and massive illicit wealth are shaking the pillars of its very existence. This, in turn, is pulling back the nation from its aspirations of growth, development and prosperity. Despite all such efforts, we are far behind, even smaller nations in the crusade against illicit money, corruption and bad governance. In this backdrop, we felt that it is our responsibility to initiate a relentless campaign for transparent governance, accountability and firm actions against lack of probity. As a part of this exercise, we are pleased to inform you that an International Seminar on “Transparency and Accountability in Governance – International Experience in the Indian Context” is being organised at Vivekananda International Foundation on April 1 & 2, 2011.
