I have a 10 pack of mystic tans. Usually it is fine but last weeks I noticed the tan wasn't that tanned as usual. But My tan today was not at all. Hardly anything sprayed out of it-was mostly air - I didn't even use the towel when I was done - maybe it needs to be checked...

I was disappointed because my hairdresser didn't seem to know when I requested a trim for health for my hair. After I left, I didn't really feel like I got a haircut at all... My hair is still very uneven at the edges and I was expecting to leave with a straight cut. On top of that I was severely over charged. I called ahead and asked for an appointment less than a haircut (since I only needed a 10 minute trim), but I was put with a more expensive stylist and still charged the $45 haircut fee (even though I didn't want a wash or style). I will not be coming back to this salon if this is how they treat people with special requests. I am grateful for the protein treatment advice I was given. I wanted to support my local businesses but if this is what I can expect for the price I paid I would rather go to a Hair Cuttery.... Even if the front staff had been more upfront with the costs, I would have turned down the appointment before wasting my time and money.

It was so refreshing to have a stylist who really understood an older woman's hair. (I'm sure she is wonderful with younger clients as well.) I love the haircut that she gave me and thoroughly enjoyed chatting with her as she cut my hair.

While my stylist was incredibly friendly, I would not return as she stopped blow drying my hair midway because her next client had arrived. I left with semi-wet hair and prior to blow-drying she did not ask how I styled my hair. I'm not sure why her next client was more important than the client she was working on!

Been going to Fresh Hair for years. All the folks who work at Fresh Hair haveexcellent,great skills and very pleasant. I had broken my leg in Oct.unable to come in to the salon,Marguerita came to my house,cut my hair,gave me a pedi/mani. It's difficult for me to,climb up for a pedicure,so she brings in a device that I can soak my feet while sitting in a chair.. I have had many different ,and urges and pedicures n different salons. I find Amaris and Rosies the best.

Overall, my experience was disappointing . I was charged $45 for a 1" blunt cut on very fine hair. I explicitly asked not to make the front shorter than the back. Instead, the stylist took off at least 2" and indeed, the front was shorter that the back. She said she had to dry my hair to finish the cut so she quckly blew it dry, combing it straight down without and styling tools or products. My hair looked plastered to my head. Then I was charged extra for a blow dry, which I told the receptionist I didn't want when I made the appointment. Possibly the worst haircut I have ever had. I had high hopes as a friend and fellow JP resident said she has her hair cut there. The space is nice and the two employees I met were friendly but for quality and value, I would not recommend it. was told that a blow dry would be extra so I said I didn't want it.

Atmosphere is pleasant and low key, unlike the disco setting at most salons. Relaxing. Great haircut, great advice for ongoing hair care. Love the woman who cuts my hair! Only issue I had was hearing staff complaining about an annoying customer when I was paying and leaving.

I stopped in on a Saturday and was very pleasantly surprised that Diedre was available to take care of my unwieldy eyebrows. She was very friendly and also scrupulous with detail - pointing out that the last place I visited did an uneven job but that she would do her best to even them out. The salon is very cute, I liked the set up and how personable it felt. Amari was a good stylist, she described everything she was going to do with my hair and ways I can help maintains my new hair color. The color didn't come out as vibrant as Amari and I wanted but I loved the fact that she didn't push me to go for another color processing step or to bleach my hair. She listened and respected my wishes for my natural hair.

I love the hair cuts and slight hair coloring I get at Fresh Hair where I've been going for well over a decade. Joy, the owner, does my hair and I have always been totally satisfied. She is also wonderful to talk with, which makes my visits there less a chore than a pleasure. I also love the original, revolving art on their walls, the reading material they make available, the hair and hygiene products they sell, and the diversity of the staff and clientele. Everyone is friendly, yet also allow customers some quiet down time, without a lot of the hullabaloo that I've found annoying in other salons. I also feel good just being me there and not feeling like I have to compete with who's more attractive than whom. I highly recommend Fresh Hair both for "comfortability" and professionalism in cutting and styling.

I went there for perming. Not gonna lie, staff were quite nice and welcoming when I walked in. I was asked to sit in the waiting area for my turn and there was this nice lady came to me and greeted herself; asked me to walk over to be seated and discussed what I wanted to do. However she did warn me that since bottom part of my hair were damaged from bleach/dye, the perms won't reveal too much. Then she asked me to come with her to wash my hair and clean out any chemicals that was left in my hair. I appreciated her honesty. Then minutes later, she was struggling combing my hair after wash because it was all tangled and not smooth enough for the comb to run through. She kept reminding that my hair was damaged. My thought was that how come she didn't decline what I wanted to do and suggest that I can just cut my hair and forget the perms. I would've agree with her. Anyway, she continued combing and chopping big parts of my hair to remove split ends. I wasn't too thrilled because it took months for me to have my hair that long. Then she started the process of perming. She suggested that I picked medium size curls so that it's not too curly but natural curly. I agreed and we went forward with it. After rinsing the perms on my hair, my hair was so heavy like a sponge. I was kind of worried. I was charged $130 for the perms (because I had long hair) but a hair cut was $50 !!!!!! Seriously ..? I don't understand that ... I was upset ... I should've stopped her ... My fault I guess ?? Anyways after all that, it was still wet and no curls !!! My hair looks like I have dreads when it's wet. When it's dried, it look like I have hays, I'm sure horses would be happy eating my hair off from my head. I regret going there and spent $180 for horrible hairdo. by Daria QUILES on 2015-12-07

My stylist Margarita is absolutely amazing!!! I went in for a cut and a full foil and my hair came out amazing. Margarita takes the time to evaluate my hair and then makes suggestions accordingly. I also brought my 3 year old daughter to get her first hair trimming and Margarita made her feel so comfortable and at ease. My daughter loved the experience and is looking forward to getting her hair trimmed again. I will not go anywhere but Fresh Hair or see any other stylist for myself and my daughter except Margarita.

I love Fresh Hair. Kelly is great! She gave me beautiful color and a great cut. She knew the perfect color, and really listened to what I wanted. She suggested a new product I had never seen before, and styled my hair just like a picture I had shown her. She is very nice, interesting to talk to, and I felt very relaxed. I love Fresh Hair . . . Joy is fabulous. She did a wonderful job coloring my hair. She also gave me helpful information on caring for my hair, and what kind of shampoo is best to use for my hair. All this only took one and a half hours! Also, Fresh Hair is a lovely place, I enjoy the art work you have on display, and I also enjoy looking at all the interesting things you sell . . . jewelry, hair products, etc. And . . . parking in the neighborhood is free and easy. I liked my stylish and my cut. Service was late and then rushed, though, as a result of scheduling problems. And I thought it was pretty slimy that I was charged $10 more than the quoted price ($55 instead of $45) because my hair was blown dry. I just had an appointment with Joy, my "no more tears" hairdresser. For me confidence is all important when I go to a salon, and I have complete confidence that when I leave Fresh Hair, I will be happy. That is why I am giving a rating of excellent. Joy has an artist's eye when it comes to hair styles. She can tweak a haircut so that it works for you, even when you choose a style that's not the best suited. She knows hair types, too, what will work with my hair and what won't. I love the atmosphere in the shop. The people are friendly. There's a warm feeling there. The decor is not fancy but is clean and comfortable. And Fresh Hair sells all the products that you can get in any downtown Boston salon. I sometimes arrive early and take myself across the street to Fiore's Bakery. Check it out and you may want to arrive early, too.

I visit Fresh Hair for a short, tapered cut that I have gotten before by the same stylist (Amari). The cut came out nice. From this appointment and from others I have noticed that stylist is rough with my natural hair and I have to brush/detangle it myself. I was fine with doing this only because she was ripping and pulling; rather than beginning at the ends and working her way up she started at the root which is something that should not be done with my texture. The stylist also complained that I had product in my hair that was greasy and was getting on her hands and tools. Honestly, do you expect me to come to the salon with nothing at all in my hair? It seemed to me that she was becoming a bit exacerbated due to my texture as well as the product residue. Even she admitted that she probably should have washed it first. I love the way that this stylist styles my hair when it comes to flat ironing, but the way that she handles it in its natural state makes me what to explore other salons. Also, it would not hurt for the salon to actually use products that are made for other hair textures on the clients that need them rather than simply putting them on display in the window.

My experience was great! I came in for a consultation on a terrible self hair dye experience. The owner of the salon made me feel extremely comfortable and while I am a woman of color with thick curly hair the opener put her hands in my hair and did so in a way that made me feel like my hair & scalp was in good hands. We came up with a plan and made an appointment with another stylist a few days later. This stylist did a great job at helping me to achieve the best color for my hair with my skin tone involved. I thoroughly enjoyed the experience, while getting my hair color corrected my scalp began to itch & I told her & she sprayed something in the itchy spots to soothe the itching. I expressed to both the owner & stylist that I am natural I use no chemicals in my hair to achieve any looks and was afraid that this corrective option may ruin my hair. I was assured that my hair was in good hands, and also that if I continued to keep my hair moisturizer my hair will be healthier than ever. After getting my hair colored it was washed & conditioned! Such a great experience all worth the pricing, it's been a month and my hair color is lovely my hair texture is healthy ' beautiful & im looking to go back!!! Very good experience!

I love Fresh Hair, and get my own hair cut there. This past Saturday I brought my daughter to get her hair-dyed for her 11th birthday and the experience was definitely a bummer. I had specifically asked the receptionist if the stylist would be willing to do this for a child, and also if she would be willing to do a somewhat edgy hairstyle. The stylist was pretty judgmental about the idea that we were going to do a dye-job on a tween, and also explained that they don't do bright colors at Fresh Hair. In the end, my daughter got a trim and was super disappointed by the experience. I wish the receptionist had taken the time to make sure that the salon could do what we were asking, and that when it became clear they couldn't, that the stylist was apologetic and supportive, rather than critical.

I went only for a Wash-N-Blow and they did a nice job. It's a little overpriced for this treatment, but when in a pinch I'm willing to pay more. It should close $25.00, maybe $28.00 vs. $35.00 for a 1/2 hour, shoulder length blow dry. Nice people, clean facility and easy to find street parking. I also like their hours of operation.

Michelle is great. Both times it's been very laid back and relaxing, and my feet feel wonderful afterwards. Totally worth it. And I love that Fresh Hair is not a nail salon because you don't have that strong chemical smell I associate with so many nail places (just from passing them as I walk by)

Todd colored my hair, and a woman, whose name I forget, washed my hair. (The woman who washed my hair is the artist who did the wonderful paintings that are on display. She is also a dancer, and about to become a new mother.) Todd did a fabulous job, as usual, and the woman who washed my hair also did a fabulous job . . she massaged my scalp to get the itching out from the hair color, and she did some special treatment to my hair with the hair coloring and the shampoo. I had the BEST experience at Fresh Hair. I was visiting from out of town and dropped in to make an appointment. Not only did the staff accommodate me and my time constraints, I received a beautiful blow out of my long unruly frizzy hair! The cost was super reasonable and I was treated very well. Though I can't speak to their cuts or color, I can tell this is a quality salon that cares about the customer. Highly recommended!

My daughter and I are clients of Todd. We had a wonderful experience at the salon on Friday, October 3rd. We were both having a wash and set. Todd does fantastic work. We especially enjoy his wit and humor. Above all his skill and professionalism are exceptional. He takes time to discuss our individual needs and answers my many questions about products I should use to keep our hair healthy. This was my daughters second visit to a hair salon so was a little nervous about getting her hair washed and cut but the salon assistant who washed my daughters hair was gentle and understanding of her needs. The receptionist was friendly the shop is nice and airy. We enjoyed our experience at Fresh Hair

Typically I have a very good experience at Fresh Hair but this one was different. 10 minutes before the appointment I was called and told that the stylist wanted to see if I could be delayed 30 minutes. I told her that i was already on the way. However, when I arrived I ended up waiting 35 minutes and then was given a different stylist after I complained.

I have no problems with the services provided by Todd and Melissa. They are very good. The problem I have with Fresh Hair is its reception desk and scheduling system. On August 22, I had a manicure and pedicure appointment for 3 pm. The MBTA bus in which I was traveling broke down en route. I first called at 2:30 and was sent straight to voicemail. I waited 10 minutes and called again and went into voicemail. On the third attempt at around 3 pm, I left a message stating that I was not going to make it and whether I can come in at a later time on the same day. If not, I would have to reschedule for another day. At 3:45pm, I received a call from the receptionist at the desk informing me that I had an appointment and asking me where I was. I told him that I left a message on voicemail and asked him why it was not checked. Anyways, I rescheduled the mani/pedi for 5pm after my 3pm hair stylist appointment on August 29th. On August 29th, I came in for my hair appointment with Todd at 3pm. He relaxed my hair, washed it and then set me in rollers. As he was about to set me under the dryer at 4pm, Melissa said that I had a 4:15pm mani/pedi appointment with her and that she would put me under the dryer when she was done. Todd and I said that the appointment is actually at 5pm. I came out from under the dryer at 4:45 and Todd trimmed and styled my hair. I went to Melissa at 5pm and received a pedicure but no manicure because she could not fit one in when she had a 5:45pm appointment afterwards. Melissa showed me her schedule stating that I was to get the mani/pedi at 4:15 and I showed her my email reminder from Fresh Hair. Usually Melissa would have been able to take me at 4:15 and then put me under the dryer while Todd worked on other customers. Well, that would have worked if Todd had customers coming in after me. I was his last customer that day. This is not the first time that appointments have been changed. However, now that I have email reminders I can now prove that the schedules that the service providers have are different than what I receive in my email reminders. I think Fresh Hair still has a difficult time accepting that Todd's client cannot and do not finish in an hour and still try to schedule appointments for one hour. It has been a year that he has been here. Also, why during business hours are calls going directly to voicemail? I understand that there can be many calls coming in at the same time but usually the receptionist answers and ask the customer to hold while she handles previous calls. There needs to be some stability at the receptionist desk. There has been too many receptionists and of course, too many times they do not know what they are doing! Fresh Hair is so strict about clients' cancelling and rescheduling but fail to give the same consideration when they do the same to clients. What's going on?

This was my second appointment with Amari and both haircuts are the best cuts I've ever gotten! I have been looking for someone who knows how to cut curly hair and create layers that blend well, she does this seamlessly! I think she might be able to cut hair blindfolded and it would still come out perfect. Amari is also very welcoming and really listens to what you want and makes it happen. I’m thrilled to have found her!

Esthetician made me feel really comfortable, which is a tall order when you are doing a bikini wax! This was my first appointment, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but the atmosphere was very welcoming. The only criticism I would have is that she had her phone on, and it kept going off while she was doing my wax. It was a little distracting and it made me feel like I should let her answer the phone. She did keep apologizing though; I think turning her phone off is something that she usually does, but she had just forgotten to do in this instance.

The only thing I can think of is that you should offer some sort of discount to people who are donating their hair. Most salons do, to thank you for donating it. I love my hair cut done by Joy. The only down side was the 10 minute delay...I had to take my daughter to art class and didn't want to be late...we made it just in time. Joy was very nice and explained everything she was doing, why and how to maintain. She even gave me some tips on ruling my daughters crazy curly mane. Joy made me want to go back...I wish I could say the same of other stylists there.

I was impressed with Margarita's assessment of my hair and my personality/lifestyle (lazy when it comes to hair), and that she suggested different ways I could style my hair. Fresh Hair is my favorite Salon in JP. They have the best hours, they open earlier and closer later than most places. I tend to be able to get cuts done before or after work rather than having to take time off work. Additionally the interior is stylish and well thought out, the staff is great, and my personal hairdresser Kelly already gives me my favorite haircuts ever and I've only been going to her for about 4 months.

I have natural coily/kinky hair and had a deep conditioning treatment and was hoping to have my hair "styled" naturally. The treatment was overpriced and there was no effort by Todd to style my hair. He placed some type of sticky substance on my hair, I sat under the dryer and was told I was all set with hair still wet and essentially left the salon with an afro. Even one of the assistants looked at the stylist to ask if he was done with my service. I tipped anyway out of courtesy but will never return for another service and I would never recommend this stylist.

I had my hair done for a special event. The hair stylist was not very friendly and kept saying that my ideas were not possible with my hair. I was receptive to that opinion, definitely, but I still wanted her to take the style I was looking for (romantic, loose, soft) and adapt a style that would work in my hair. She was not open to that and was visibly frustrated by both my hair and the conversation. She also did not say one nice thing about my hair or the style. Just criticisms of my hair length, texture, and my style ideas. I didn't let it ruin my day, but I would not go back or recommend that other people do.

My stylist was AMAZING! Having someone to wash hair would help eliminate some of the wait time. The music made me quite sleepy. I'd prefer more upbeat and current music of various genres.

Melissa's pedicure was excellent. Low-key, lots of nice lotions, and my feet look like new. You really need to consider investing in a foot/toe dryer, though. Usually my pedicures take 45, and with 10-15 mins. under the dryers, an hour. Because I had to air dry, the whole thing took a bit longer than it should have -- 1 hr/15-20. Those dryers aren't that pricey and would be a great addition. Thanks!

I've never liked going to salons, and the atmosphere are Fresh Hair was really nice compared to what I'd experienced before. It's not too loud or hectic, so that was very nice. I have curly hair and I tried Fresh Hair because a friend told me that they had done well with her curly hair. I was still disappointed with the way my curly hair was cut. The stylist still combed it through and cut it as though it were straight. I asked for only a little trim, and about an inch more than I asked for was cut off. I left feeling sad because it really was a nice place--but I knew my hair would be about 3 inches shorter than I wanted it to be when I was dry. (I asked to not have it blow-dried.) I would say call and talk to someone before going in, if you want a cut that pays attention to your curl pattern.

I went in for a color change with Amari and was very satisfied. She was very professional and knew exactly what she was doing. Initially I wanted to go blonde, but I had red in my hair, we discussed all options keeping in mind the series of process my hair would go through. Amari was able to get the red tones out of my hair, and while I am not blonde I understand in order to not damage my hair it will take a few separates processes. I will absolutely continue to come back and see Amari.

I think I payed WAY too much for WAY too little. I don't believe the person cutting my hair understood what it was that I was asking for. I'd not had a cut in 4 months, as I'm attempting to grow my hair long, and it was in bad need of shape, texture and thinning. I wear it messy and I was just looking blah. I payed $45 for 12 minutes in a chair to end up with what essentially amounts to a bowl cut. As a male, I've gotten salon quality cut/style in the past. In fact, that's what I was there to get. Instead, the lines are very blocky and I look worse than before I came in. I'm feeling very ripped off. In fact, I am heavily considering going to a run-rate cuttery to just lob it all off and abandon the cut I've been hoping to grow into. I just don't know that I can wander around for another 4 months looking this ridiculous.

I didn't think that having to come back and pay more for a cut that should have been finished during my appointment was acceptable, so I did not return. She also did not style my hair. I did it myself in order to get used to it, but some input, any input besides just providing me the gel, would have been nice from her.

Joy, the owner and stylist generously offers showing opportunities for visual artists in her salon, and I was able to show my artwork on the day of JP Open Studios. She always cuts my very curly hair, designing styles that flatter my face, and she offers suggestions and products that help my hair stay healthy, attractive and easy to manage. I would highly recommend that you experience the uniqueness and professionalism of this salon. I had my hair cut and blow dry by Maragrita. She was fabulous! I loved my haircut and she also gave my helpful tips for keeping my hair healthy and some tips for when I wear my hair curly. She was recommended to me by a friend who had a great haircut and now I have recommended her to my friends and family! I also got my eyebrows done by Aisha. She did an awesome job. She used a mirror to show me what she was going to do. I've never had anyone do that before, it was so helpful, she did exactly what I wanted. Everyone is so nice and friendly. Kelly gets 5 stars for being honest about expectations of what I want for color and also for the service itself. She is so nice, fast and does exactly what you want. My pedicure was OK. The nail tech was super sweet, but I was so surprised to have a pedicure with no scrub or massage. My feet were soaked, she used foot file, tended to cuticles and applied color. With that, she did a good job. But, I have never had a pedicure without a scrub or massage. That was a little disappointing. I might have to try somewhere else in the neighborhood for pedicure, but I am a fan of the salon for hair services.

Everyone at Fresh Hair was very nice and professional. I felt the place itself was a bit dated, and noticed that it didn't feel very modern or similar to the neighborhood it's located in. The cost of the haircut was significantly more than a cut by a stylist at a salon down the street that has a very nice interior, offers coffee or water when you come in, etc. I think offering those at the outset would have been helpful. I didn't appreciate that only halfway through my session did the receptionist come up to let my stylist know that her next appointment was there, and ended up having to wait while she got the other person started. All in all, it was a fine visit, and my stylist was very nice and communicative, but I feel like I paid more than the visit was worth.

Since moving to Boston from UK 2 years ago I have struggled to find a hairdresser to cut my curly hair. After a number of really bad haircuts a friend recommended Fresh Hair. I was thinking a trying the keratin treatment to deal with my curls but after a consultation with Joy she said I just needed a good hair cut. I told her to do what she thought best and I now have the best hair cut I have ever had. My hair sits perfectly without having to do anything. It's a miracle. I can't wait for her to tackle my colour on my next visit.

Coming to FreshHair is an easy and warm experience. I always find parking which always helps when running late. The front desk folks are always friiendly, warm and engaging. I go to Fresh Hair for my mani/pedi by Melissa and everything works well. But, this was my first time getting a brow/chin wax by Michelle. Michelle did a wonderful job and I made an appointment to see her again. My issue/problem with this appointment was that I had arrived on time (before my appointment time) and I ended up waiting. Another client (for Michelle) showed up after me and Michelle came within seconds to greet her and worked on her first. I was not happy. I found out the Fresh Hair double books Michelle's appointments. Okay, I've no problem with that - but whoever shows up first should get preference to be attended to. I wasn't even acknowledged until I approached the desk to inquire about my pending appointment (seeing that they were closing in approx. five minutes). The two receptionists (one was a new employee for a few hours and the other was the trainer). I'm not sure if they every told Michelle that I was there (when I first arrived). Regardless, I feel like I was passed over. I make it my business to be on time for my appointments and I expect the same courtesy and respect from any establishment. Otherwise, its just downright rude and disrespectful for a client to show up late or the client to be seen late (if they've arrived on time). Michelle's work made up for it that day - but I still find it unacceptable. We'll see what happens going forward. NPS:

It was my first time and I was having such a tough time finding a stylist in Boston that can do blonde highlights without charging $300. I am very particular about my hair. Kelly listened to what I wanted and the outcome was great. Getting my hair back to blonde is going to be a process and Kelly was realistic about what to expect. And she is very sweet.

I was disappointed when I went in for my most recent haircut. I specifically told the stylist that I hated having my hair in my eyes and I was clear about not wanting it cut above my ears. The stylist either didn't hear me and/or didn't care. She did exactly what I did NOT want her to do... which was cut my hair too short! It now hangs in my eyes and is too short to tuck behind my ears. Not only that, but the cut itself is choppy, hacked. I'm assuming that she realized that she'd made a mistake in cutting it too short and instead of admitting her mistake she just rushed me out. This is the 4th time I've visited Fresh Hair, and I've had my hair cut by 3 different stylists. I felt that each stylist did not really LISTEN. I will not return to this salon.

Margarita was wonderful! She was very friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. I love my haircut and I've gotten lots of compliments on it! As always, the staff at Fresh Hair were friendly and helpful and the facilities were really nice.

Anytime and every time I see Shauron it is a wonderful experience. He is extremely gifted in his understanding of different hair types and different styles that are appropriate and flattering for each type.
