Pressemitteilung zu Colter Wall Kanadischer Country-Newcomer Colter Wall holt sein im August verlegtes Konzert am 19.01.18 in Hamburg in der Prinzenbar nach Hamburg, Oktober 2017 - Mit der Veröffentlichung seiner Debüt-EP "Imaginary Appalachia" im Sommer 2015 setzt der damals erst 19-Jährige Colter Wall ein erstes Ausrufezeichen. Seine Konzerte werden seitdem immer besser besucht, aus kleinen Bars werden große Galas. Mit seinem selbstbetitelten Debüt-Album, das von Grammy-Gewinner Dave Cobb aufgenommen und produziert wurde, hinterlässt der kanadische Country- Newcomer im März 2017 einfach nur staunende Gesichter. Sein Deutschland-Debüt im selben Monat in Berlin war ausverkauft, seinen ersten Auftritt in Hamburg im August 2017 musste er krankheitsbedingt absagen. Er wächst mit traditioneller nordamerikanischer Musik auf, taucht tief ein in das Repertoire seiner Vorgänger. Dabei passt sein tiefer Bariton genauso hervorragend zu Folk und Bluegrass wie sein entspanntes Gitarren- und Banjospiel zu den gefühlvollen Texten. Und seine Einflüsse sind nicht von der Hand zu weisen: Auf der einen Seite stehen Legenden der Vergangenheit wie Hank Williams, Robert Johnson, Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Townes Van Zandt und The Band Pate, auf der anderen Seite inspirieren ihn moderne Americana-Pioniere wie Shovels And Rope, Jack White, Ray Lamontagne und Shakey Graves. Country Music as a Dual Character Concept Evan Malone: The University at Albany, SUNY 1. Introduction While philosophers have so far not paid much attention to country music, there is now a small but growing body of work dealing with the unique aesthetic features of the genre (Shusterman 1999; Dyck 2018; Berhardt 2018; Dyck 2021). Surveying this literature, the question of how we ought to understand the genre’s notion of authenticity has emerged as one of the central questions. Here, theorists are substantially divided. Some argue that authentic country music is a matter of the artist having a biography that supports the rural and working-class identity of country protagonists (Bernhardt 2018), some argue that authenticity in country music is merely a matter of the music manifesting a rural American mythology that carries a certain emotional resonance (Shusterman 1999), and others, still, argue that discussions of authenticity in country music should be put to rest (Dyck 2021). Indeed, questions about the legitimacy of certain country artists and kinds of country music mark a dividing line in an evergreen debate within the community between progressives and traditionalists. Given the way in which some country audiences and artists use the distinction between mere country music and so- called ‘real’ or ‘authentic’ country music, we might worry that the notion of authenticity employed in discussions of the genre is nothing but a cudgel used for a problematic kind of gatekeeping. However, even if we think that authenticity is merely a coded term that some in the community use to police the boundaries of the genre, we might still ask what conditions must be met for an artist or a song to survive this gatekeeping.

Tønder Festival is still built on the same foundation: the mu- sic, the friendliness, the audience, the vast army of volunteers, the local and regional support. In 2017 we are proud to present new developments on the Festival site, bringing surprises while preserving traditions. This year, you can explore two new theme zones and enjoy concerts in improved settings. Outlaw Village is a new area on the Festival site, inspired by North America in the 1800s, and symbolised by a later era’s mountain and bluegrass music. The Green Street (Grønnegade) neig- hbourhood centres on healthy, organic foodstuffs and on the Wadden Sea area with its unique natural vistas, culinary adventures and cultural experiences.
