INTRODUCTION

Carrying on unconditional commitment to the State of Jharkhand, the University completed its second year achieving milestones in terms of recognition, enrollment of students, addition to the infrastructure including purchase of own land at Namkum.

The University won prestigious ASSOCHAM award for the best Private University in the second consecutive year.

More students from remote locations of Jharkhand are interested to join the University. It is the result of University’s effort to reach out nooks and corners of the State and conveying the importance of higher education to student community and their parents.

The University has relocated its operations to Kamre in where a built-up infrastructure is already available to accommodate around 4000 students. It is a Seven Acre land having built-up infrastructure of around 1.0 Lakh sq ft for academic purpose as well as for hostels. Fighting with all odds against, the University was successful in registering and taking full possession of its own land at Raja Ulatu, Namkum.

The University is proud to have more than 80% students from SC / ST segment which is fulfilling the University’s commitments to the SC/ST/OBC of the State of Jharkhand.

The University thanks Government authorities for their immense support in expanding its operations to serve the State in a better way.

INFRASTRUCTURE DETAILS

a. Premise at Kamre, Ratu Road

Jharkhand Rai University relocated its operations to a new premises located in Kamre, Ratu Road, Ranchi. This is in line with the Board of Governor’s decision on 31.03.2014 to accommodate large number of students.

The new premise which has one lakh sq. ft of built up area is divided in four blocks having multiple floor levels in each block. There is 60,000 sq ft available for academic purpose and 40,000 sq ft for boys and girls hostel. The facility is housed in a seven acre plot.

Library The University library currently occupies 1500 sq ft area in the academic block. The library has 21000 books and journals of different streams – Management, Engineering, Language skills and Soft skills. Reading Room Reading room of 1500 sq. ft equipped with internet, newspapers, magazines and periodicals. Computer Lab The computer lab has four servers, one router, five network switches and 60 machines. The size of the lab is 1500 Sq ft Conference Hall A conference hall of 1000 sqft is available for Board meetings and important programs like Ph.D Viva

INFRASTRUCTURE DETAILS

Drawing Hall The Drawing hall situated in the ground floor of academic block is a large one to accommodate 60 students in one batch Mechanical Workshops The Mechanical workshops are situated outside Academic building to accommodate heavy machinery like Lathe machine, Universal Testing machine etc. The existing workshops are (a) Welding (b) Fitting Shop (c) Sheet metal (d) IC Engine & Automobile (e) Fluid mechanics (f) Kinematics (g) Machine workshop (h) Carpentry (i) Plumbing (j) Foundry

Internet connectivity / WiFi facility The University has invested a lot for its dedicated 2 mbps leased line through tower connectivity. The campus is WiFi and the connectivity is available to all students using laptops / smart phones.

Study Room / Study area for hostel inmates All hostel inmates have access to ground floor area of academic block during morning hours and evening time. The University has developed this space for study purpose. Total area available for this purpose including a covered class room is around 4000 sq. ft. Students’ Mess The mess kitchen and dining area are capable of handling more than 2000 students. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are served. The mess has a well equipped store room having grocery and vegetable stocked for minimum one week. Planned, nutritious and unlimited food is served to the students to ensure that they are physically and mentally fit. Presently the mess has a 500 sq. ft. kitchen facility and 1500 sq. ft. dining area. The mess facility is provided with highly subsidized rates to students especially to those in SC / ST category. Free food is provided to some SC/ ST/OBC students who come from a very poor families.

Canteen The canteen caters day scholars and staff members. Presently fast food items and snacks are served in affordable prices. The can- teen and its kitchen are functioning in a 1500 sq ft area on the ground floor of academic block

INFRASTRUCTURE DETAILS

Hostels The University provides hostel facility for both boys and girls. Presently it is capable of servicing 2000 boys and 600 girls inside the campus. The facility is dormitory type ensuring best social life and security for students. Staff quarters There are sixteen staff quarters in two blocks. Each block houses eight apartments. Each 2BHK apartment has 600 sq ft carpet area.

EDUCATION TOURS

Industrial Visit to HEC Plant, Ranchi on 29th Jan 2014

Students of Management, B.Tech and Diploma visited various shops under FFP (Foundry and Forge Plant) and HMBP (Heavy Machine Building Plants) of HEC, Ranchi under the supervision of Prof. Shabbir Ahmed, Prof. Vikas Kumar Sinha. Prof.Anup Tiwari, Prof. Anupama Verma, Prof. Shraddha Prasad, Prof. Swati Kumari, and Dr. Sanjeev Kumar Sinha.

Students learnt about molding and casting plants, induction furnaces of different capacities, arc furnaces of different capacities, vacuum arc, degenerating furnaces of different capacities, Hydraulic processes of capacities, 6000t, 2650t and 1000t; 3t. hammers a series of small free forging hammers and die forging presses. There were various ranges of machine tools including one lathe of 53m bed length, low frequency induction hardening machine and centrifugal casting facilities for cylinder bushes 350mm dia and 1m long. In FFP following products were manufactured: • Medium and heavy castings forging for coal, defense, railway, power and other engineering sector. Iron casting weighing up to 100t etc. • Rolls for hot rolling will and cold rolling mills of steel plant. • Crankshafts for railways. • Rolling mills, scabbing mills and blooming mix etc.

In addition this plant has also developed the following critical products: • Armor plate forging for defense • Turret casting for defense • Propeller shafts for navy.

In HMBP our students learnt about planning machine, sharpening machine generating machines, heavy structured heat treatment plants and big size lathe machines: • CNC VTB machines • CNC Plano milling machines • CNC horizontal boring machine • CNC flame cutting machines etc.

EDUCATION TOURS

Students participated in TECHXPLORE-14 at IIT Patna

IIT, Patna organized their foundation day celebration, TECHEXPLORE-14 on 25th January, 2014. Our students of Engineering participated in many technical competition, fun games and workshops. Ashish of Diploma in Engg. has achieved 13th position out of 120 participants in the game “Spelunker”. Neetish of B.Tech was selected amongst top 5 finalists in the Quiz Competition “ Neuron Twisterz” and finally bagged 2nd position.

Industrial Visit To Usha Martin Ltd. on 28th January, 2014

Students of B.Tech and Diploma of Jharkhand Rai University, Ranchi visited Usha Martin Limited, Ranchi under the supervision of Prof. Shabbir Ahmed and Prof. Anup Tiwari.

Usha Martin Ltd. was started in 1961 in Ranchi, Jharkhand as a wire rope manufacturing company. Today the Usha Martin Group is a USD 1 billion conglomerate with a global presence. The group has set new standards in the manufacturing of wire rods, bright bars, steel wires, speciality wires ,wire ropes, strand, conyeyor cord, wire drawing and cable machinery with continuous growth in both the domestic and international markets. Usha Martin, the group flagship company has emerged as India’s largest and the world second largest steel wire rope manufacturer. The two brothers BRIJ KUMAR JHAWAR and BASANT KUMAR JHAWAR are the Founder member of this company.

B2B- Business to Business • Usha Martin exports around 60%. • Usha Martin has collaboration with Scotland’s Martin Black. • It has Coal based power plant and Steel plant in Jamshedpur. • Usha Martin manufacture ropeways by USHA BRECO. • CSR- Corporate Social Research.

Usha Martin has its Division in the following Areas: Hoshiarpur in Punjab, Agra, In Dubai, UK, Bangkok(Thailand)

EDUCATION SEMINARS

Seminar at Loherdaga, Jharkhand

The seminar on “The opportunity of higher Education in Jharkhand” was organised in Loherdaga on 25th April, 2013. Shri Sudhdev Bhagat Ji was the chief Guest for the occasion. The seminar was inaugurated by Shri Sudhdev Bhagat, recipient of President’s Award Ganesh Lal, Prof. S.Chakraborty from JRU, Sister Sheela and Manish Sahu, Lecturer. On the occasion, Chakraborty told students about the career options in Jharkhand.

Shri Ganesh Lal threw light on the condition of higher education in the state of Jharkhand. Mr. Manish Sahu briefed the students about the importance of “Skill Development Program” and said that the skill development will not only help in developing the communication skill but will also help the students in getting the Job.

Shri Sudhdev Bhagat congratulated the University for organizing a seminar and encouraged to conduct more seminar like this in the different places.

Seminar in Chakradharpur, Chatra and Gumla

University organized various career counselling seminars in different locations of Jharkhand with the help of local Schools, Colleges and Social Leaders. The seminars emphasized importance on pursuing higher studies in Jharkhand without migrating to other states and be a part of overall development of the state. So far the seminar has been successfully organized in Chakradharpur, Chatra and Gumla.

FACULTY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM

Faculty Development Program (For School Teachers) i. Jharkhand Rai University, conducted a one day Faculty Development Program for teachers titled, “Changing for the Change” on 24th March’14 in Govind Vidyalaya Tamulia, Jamshedpur. The theme of the workshop revolved around the challenges faced during the process of change and the ways to overcome them. ii. Another Faculty Development programme was conducted on 26th April’14 in Don Bosco School, Hatia. The workshop was conducted on several themes such as “Passion for job”, “Team Building” & “Communication Skills”.

Farewell to Pioneer Batch of MBA

“Farewell Party” for the pioneer batch (MBA 12-14) was organised on 26th of April 2014.The event started with a welcome speech by Vivek and Srijan (Students of Management Dept.), followed by a Welcome Dance by Sangeeta.

All senior MBA students were felicitated with flowers and they also participated in the ramp Walk followed with some random games for seniors. They were not only made danced to their choice of songs but also made to sing, do catwalk, laugh in 5 different ways or made to Mimick some one.

The Program continued with the traditional Jharkhand’s Nagpuri Dance (Mandar) on the Nagpuri song by Dipika and Group, continued with Group Dance by Surya and Neha followed by Pair Dance by Rajesh and Neelam.

Mr Cherian Jacob (Registrar) and Dr Piyush Ranjan (Dean Academics) also distributed trophies and certificate to the Winners of Quiz Competition, Slogan Competition and Essay Writing competition.The Best Student Award was given to Guncha Iqbal from Management Dept. The event concluded with a DJ Dance Party.

Women’s Day celebration:

Jharkand Rai University Celebrated “International Women’s Day” on 8th March 2014.

On this occasion a Panel Discussion on “Changing Face of Women in India” was arranged. Dr Savita sengar, Vice Chancellor, Jharkhand Rai University started the event with Welcome Speech. The Guest of Honor for the occasion Ms. Nisha Murmu, DSP, Hatia who categorically stressed with her personal experience that people keep saying that there is a lack of opportunity but the opportunity is every where we just need to find it. We can’t wait for the opportunity to come but we have to grab the opportunity. Women must ask, Demand and fight for her needs. Now slowly and steadily women are getting aware of their rights and every girl has to make her own way. Other school Principals and HOD’s of attended this panel discussion. The panel speakers included Mrs.Manju Gargi, Principal, Tender Heart School, Mrs.Seema Chitlangia, Principal, Bridgeford School quoted, Dr Indira Pathak (HOD Dept. of Psychology, Womens College, Ranchi, Dr. Piyush Ranjan, Dean Academics, Jharkhand Rai University, Mr. Cherian Jacob the Registrar of the University, Ms. Roselina Singh, Dept of Psycology, RU

Beside this event, other events like essay, slogan and collage competition was held for the students and they were felicitated with prizes for their best contribution. All this were organized to create awareness and emphasize the importance of women power in the society.

Jharkhand Rai University organized a Quiz Competition

The Quiz Competition was organised on 19th of April 2014, in which the students from different streams like Diploma in Engineering, B.Tech, MCA, MBA, BBA & BCA paricipated.

The teams were shortlisted after a preliminary round for the final. The Quiz was held in two sessions for Seniors and Juniors batch separately. The different round in the quiz included Buzzer Round, A/V round and Rapid Fire Round. The moderator for the Quiz were Mr Anup Tiwary, Prof. Shraddha Prasad & Prof. Anupama Verma.

The competition started with questions like “Year of Establishment of United Nations” and continued with “Who was the first lady doctor to give birth to a Test Tube Baby ?”, “Naming The Holy Book of Paris?”, “Naming The Developer of Facebook?”, or “Naming The Lady who Beated the Computers in Mathematical Wizard”. Few questions revolved around the General Awareness of the Women who have achieved Extraordinary Benchmarks in their respective fields.

In the Junior Batch the Winners were Diploma Students : Puja Kumari, Lalit Mahato , Abhishek Kumar & Amarnath Dangi. In the Senior Batch the Winners were B.Tech Students : Siddhanth Kumar, Roksana Parvin & Sangeeta. Audience who participated also won consolation prizes.

On the occasion, Dr Piyush Ranjan (Dean-Academics) encouraged students to come forward, participate and keep organizing such events time to time and briefed that such events not only helps in the holistic development but also enhances knowledge.

Saraswati puja

Saraswati puja was celebrated in the Jharkhand Rai University on 4th February 2014. Goddess Saraswati, the deity of knowledge, learning and music, was worshipped in the university campus. Students, including boys and girls, clad in traditional yellow saris, offered flowers, and participated in cultural programmes. Clay idol of Goddess was seen with a crescent moon on the brow, riding a swan with flowers, fruits and sweets placed as offering to the Goddess. The ritual started early morning and lasted till midday with preist chanting mantras and devotees placing seasonal ‘Palash’ flowers at the deity’s feet to the ringing sounds of cymbals and conch shells.

Teacher’s Day

Since 1962, India has been celebrating Teacher’s day on 5th September. The day commemorates the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakhrishnan a philosopher and a teacher, and his mindflex contribution to the field of education. Dr. Radhakrishnan believed that ”teachers should be the best minds in our country”. Teachers are the cornerstone of our future and act as foundation for creating responsible citizens and good human beings. This day is celebrated to show our acknowledgement and recognition of the hard work put in by the teachers towards student’s development. This day was celebrated in the University campus by the students. Students were full of enthusiasm and organised several cultural programs.
