Lecture on Hosting a static website: A digital design service

A lecture was delivered on ”STATIC WEBSITE HOSTING WITH AWS” on 27th April 2018 by Mrs. Suchita Modi, Senior Software Engineer, ARICENT. M/s. Aricent is a Design and Engineering company. In the single session guest lecture organized by Deptt. of CS & IT, Mrs. Modi underlined the various issues of the topic. e.g. what compelled the sudden comeback of static websites? Was it the changing technological scenario, ease of familiarity or something else entirely? Or is it a classic case of ‘What goes around comes around’? Mrs. Modi discussed about services provided by the Amazon. As a surprise to many, Amazon is a static website. The speaker underlined the differences between static and dynamic websites. A static site is the most basic kind of website, and the easiest to create. It requires no server-side processing, only client-side. A static website is delivered to a user exactly the way it is stored. It means that nothing on the page will change by the user or even the site administrator, unless there is a redesign of the site or the site administrator goes directly into the code to change it. Static websites are a safe bet compared to dynamic ones when it comes to security. On the other hand, if you can interact with a website, it’s a dynamic site. So, most of the sites probably visited are dynamic sites. Examples of dynamic sites are blogs, e-commerce sites, calendar or to- do sites. In this informative lecture session, Mrs. Modi also talked about how to host a website using AWS and what is S3 and uploading file on S3 ? www.jru.edu.in ( 8 ) JRU CAMPUS CONNECT | Vol. III | Issue I | July 2018

Faculty Corner Let’s go dwarf in Orcharding - Dr. S.M. Prasad Going dwarf can be an acceptable feature in modern orchard management. Dwarfing can be achieved through selective breeding, genetic engineering and by grafting scions on to dwarfing root stocks. Orchardists are raising more and more scaled down beautiful fruit trees. Modern apple trees in commercial use are propagated as dwarf or semi dwarf trees for ease and convenience of picking and for applications of plant protection measures against diseases and pests.

Dwarfing fruit trees is accomplished through a reduction in nutrients that is absorbed through the root system through conducting xylem tissues to the crown. Modern commercial orchards of major fruit tree species have used this technique for convenience, freedom from diseases and pests and quality fruits on individual fruit trees. Root system being of a different cultivar selected for stability and resistance against soil-borne infections and infestations; separate cultivar for the main trunk which modifies the height and another cultivar for the productive shoots and buds bearing the fruits. Dwarf fruit trees start bearing fruits within 2-3 years of planting.

Root stocks are linked with the success or failure of orchard-based enterprises. Root stock for apple could be selected for resistance against scab, fire blight, wooly aphid and/or other major diseases and pests. Dwarfing root stocks are available for different fruit trees viz., Apple- M27 (M13xM9);Citrus- Feronialimoni; Guava- PusaSrajan; Pear- Quince- C etc. which are highly dwarfing, early maturing and suitable for high density plantings. Purposefully selected root stocks enable the scion to express its full genetic potential in terms of fruit quality, yield, modified architecture for convenience and resistance and/or tolerance against various biotic and abiotic stresses. www.jru.edu.in ( 24 ) JRU CAMPUS CONNECT | Vol. III | Issue I | July 2018 Faculty Corner

What Attracts Youth to Fundamentalism and Fanaticism - Prof. Sanjeev Srivastava

Youth is an experience that shapes an individual’s level of dependency, which can be marked in various ways according to various cultural perspectives. Personal experience is marked by an individual’s cultural norms or traditions, while a youth’s level of dependency means the extent to which they still rely on their family emotionally and economically. These days, youth try to uphold their religious views very strongly. Fundamentalism and fanaticism can be called a religious belief of people. The basic difference between the two is belief and action. One could be a fundamentalist in a given religion, and believe in the literal truth fall into this category. For the most part, fundamentalists act within the law, and while it may pain them that secular society doesn’t conform to God’s will, they recognize and respect that they are part of a larger system. Fanatics, on the other hand, are fundamentalists who see only their own point of view, and are happy (indeed may consider it their duty) to break the law.

The biggest question is, if all the world’s great religions preach peace and the preservation of life, why do fanatics kill and maim in the name of their religion? Fanaticism is a universal phenomenon that can manifest itself in almost every sphere of human activity. Although many expressions of fanaticism are negative and destructive, some can be almost neutral or even positive. Even the ALL (All Ladies League) under the banner of Women Economic Forum recently had a panel discussion on the issues and challenges that attracts the youth to fundamentalism and fanaticism in the international conference held in New Delhi.

By the late 1910s, theological conservatives rallying around the five fundamentals came to be known as “fundamentalists”. They reject the existence of commonalities with theologically related religious traditions, such as the grouping of Christianity, Islam, and Judaism into one Abrahamic family of religions.

If we see, fundamentalism and fanaticism both go hand in hand but it is up to the followers as to what they choose to accept. We are really mistaken about religion/faith and have ill feelings about them, then we are absolutely wrong in our perception because no religion/faith teaches us about having a strict norms set for believing onto something. The teachings and preaching of all the religion/faith of this world should be practiced.

This is a hard truth that heroism attracts youth to fundamentalism and fanaticism or in other words, they want to be different from the crowd. They start following things which can make them highlighted in the eyes of the people. They create an aura of fanaticism and people start putting trust on them blindly. It is our lack of knowledge that we start believing on the things which never do any good to the human society.

Hence, we can say that in today’s world both men and women have interest in fundamentalism and fanaticism both. In this league even the women are participating in a full-fledged manner giving men a cut throat competition. It not only satisfies their personal or social needs but also their economic needs. Thus, today’s youth are having their opinions about religion and they do understand fundamentalism and fanaticism in a broader scale. But one cannot say that these are a necessary thing for us, rather they create a big chaos among the people and it deviate them from the real motive of being a human.
