Ohad Benchetrit - Justin Small
Ohad Benchetrit - Justin Small A bit about us, Ohad Benchetrit & Justin Small: As founding members of critically acclaimed Toronto based band Do Make Say Think, we have been creating engaging, epic, and emotional music together for over 23 years. As composers, our focus has always centered around melody, artistic integrity, passion, and spirited experimentation. This has opened the door to a decades long career in film composition. We’ve always picked projects with lots of heart and beauty and believe score to be an integral part of the story telling. To add color, and emotion but not to lead. To add feel but not to persuade. We’ve been honored with multiple awards, including the 2018 JUNO award for best instrumental album with our work with Do Make Say Think, the Best Original Score in 2016 at the LA scream Fest and a Canadian Screen Award in 2012 for Best original score for a documentary for Semi-Sweet: Life in Chocolate We pride ourselves on finding the right emotional tone that both the director and picture are trying to convey. With Ohad's classical training and Justin's minimalist and immediate sense of melody we feel we have created a unique sound and style of film composition that holds the emotional crux of the entire project in the highest order. We love what we do. The Growing Relationship Between Brands and the Entertainment World Is a Big Theme Once Again at Cannes
The growing relationship between brands and the entertainment world is a big theme once again at Cannes. The debate is focused on several growing issues for brands in this space – including the integration of social media and device technology at live events, built through partnerships with the likes of Snapchat and Twitter, and the distribution of branded entertainment through deals with big media companies. Undoubtedly the biggest issue, however, is the need for brands to adapt to a changing world where they are part of a larger entertainment ecosystem. This requires some brave thinking about their brand and its role, together with the ability to connect with and, ultimately, move people in some way. This concern emerged during the Lions Entertainment session ‘What’s Next in the World of Brands and Entertainment?” The point made most forcibly by Jonny Sabbath, of Anheusher- Busch InBev. He stressed the need for those in the brand world to “think like a marketer, act like a producer. As marketers we have to act more like entertainment producers, do less interrupting and more attracting.” Sabbath raised what for me should be a significant focus for brands: bringing something that’s unique, entertaining, or useful to your audience. He cited one of his own projects, the Beerland show on Vice Media’s Viceland that follows craft brewer Meg Gill on a journey to meet home-brewers, to make his point that brands are now engaging with audiences by buying or creating TV shows and then developing their advertising around this entertainment. This requires a different approach for brands, putting themselves more in the role of producer and asking whether people will want to actively engage with the content and whether the product or service has the permission to have a conversation with people at that time, and in that space. -

Remote Warfare: the Consequences and Implications of Counterterrorism Efforts in Yemen
Remote Warfare: The Consequences and Implications of Counterterrorism Efforts in Yemen by Jonathan Schrauger DePaul University Honors Program 1 I. Introduction: Popular wisdom claims that "war never changes"1, but in November of 2001 the United States Central Intelligence Agency launched an attack that changed the face of modern warfare. Manning the controls from a remote location, an American pilot guided an armed predator through Afghan skies, launching a missile that killed al-Qaeda commander Mohammed Atef and five other assumed members of al-Qaeda in his company.2 The new technology gave the United States the power to wage war at lower costs without putting soldiers in harm's way. In addition, it also allowed for an increase in military activity while minimizing the public backlash often provoked by harm inflicted on United States armed service members. According to data collected by the New America Foundation, the Bush administration carried out 48 drone strikes in Pakistan alone through two terms of office. President Obama drastically increased the frequency of drone strikes, ordering 353 attacks during his eight years in office.3 During that time, drone activity in Pakistan saw a decline; however, President Obama ordered an additional 163 drone strikes in Yemen, as compared to a single strike ordered under President Bush. President Trump is currently following the trend of an exponential increase in drone usage, having himself authorized 24 drone strikes in Yemen during his first months in office.4 In the early years of the drone program, most information regarding the strikes remained confidential. After President Obama took office, years passed before the administration acknowledged their use publically. -
