That is almost all I have done my entire adult life. My job is to zealously defend persons the government accuses of committing crimes. As part of that process, my job is also to ensure that my clients receive the fair trial, by an impartial jury, guaranteed to them by the United States Constitution.' In fact, I view the protection of this guarantee as more a calling than a job. The constitutional entitlement to a fair and unbiased trial and jury is an essential element of our Constitution's allocation of power between government and its citizens and is, in my view, fundamental to who we are as a nation.

Bremerton Police Department e-News Share: Like 1 Share Tweet March 6, 2018 BPD Weekly Update Contact Let it go Mike. Let it go. It's a little sad actually. In a scene reminiscent of Uncle Rico attempting to relive his high school glory days, former K-9 handler Lt. Mike Davis wants one more chance to chase bad guys. He's proposed the cockamamie idea that he be allowed to develop a police alligator program to track criminals who run into swampy areas where police dogs can't follow. I don't have the heart to tell him what I think of the idea. Seriously though, many thanks to Scott Peterson (aka "the Reptile man) for letting us hold Lucy, his 6-year-old alligator he has raised since it was a baby. Scott had Lucy and several more of his cold-blooded friends at the Bremerton Rotary's Wild Game charity dinner on Saturday, February 24, 2018. Steele: Scandals Great and Small SCANDALS GREAT AND SMALL John Steele* I. INTRODUCTION The conference theme-Lawyering at the Edge-evokes images of lawyers ensnared in legal scandals, lawyers testing the boundaries of the ethics rules, and lawyers at their moral and emotional limits. Lawyers at the edge labor under psychological and social pressures. They are tested and tempted. They are under pressure and under attack. The scandals threaten to overwhelm them. I will focus on two kinds of cases where lawyers face those pressures. One kind involves lawyers caught up in controversies where the tactics veer toward the vicious as opponents "fight fire with fire"- cases we often describe as "spiraling," or "out of control," or having "a life of their own." Lurking behind those phrases is the notion that rationality no longer reigns. The second kind involves those public controversies where large numbers of the public use the dispute as a vehicle for vindicating private prejudices and venting personal frustrations.

From the initial guidance of Professor Musheno and Christina Carbone to the astute guidance of my advisor, Professor Perry, I am forever thankful. My family, too, has supported me mentally and even intellectually. To my Aunt Diane, I owe you so much for your direction and insight.
