PRS Guitars Announces Next Evolution of the John Mayer Silver Sky New Maple Fretboard Option and Premium Limited Edition “Nebula” Finish PRS Guitars Announces Next Evolution of the John Mayer Silver Sky New Maple Fretboard Option and Premium Limited Edition “Nebula” Finish (STEVENSVILLE, MD) January 16, 2020 – Today, on the first day of the 2020 Winter NAMM Show, PRS Guitars is pleased to announce two new updates to the John Mayer Silver Sky model, including a long-awaited maple fretboard option, two new colors, and a limited run with a flip-flop premium finish. Maple Fretboard Option & New Colors Ever since Mayer was seen playing his signature Silver Sky with a maple fretboard this past summer, there has been much conjecture as to whether this would become a catalog model for PRS or not. And after much anticipation, PRS is pleased to confirm that the Silver Sky will now be offered with the option of a maple fretboard. The maple fretboard Silver Sky will maintain the original 635JM neck shape and 7.25” fretboard radius, and is now offered in eight finish options, including the original Frost and Tungsten as well as the more recently added Dodgem Blue, Golden Mesa, Moc Sand, Orion Green. For 2020, Silver Sky models will also be offered in brand-new Midnight Rose and Polar Blue colors. Limited Edition “Nebula” Finish Limited to only 500 pieces worldwide, the Silver Sky Limited Edition in “Nebula” finish is another exciting offering from PRS Guitars in 2020. This premium limited-edition is outfitted with a unique “flip-flop” finish that reflects hue and light differently at different angles. The polychromatic finish accentuates the lines of the Silver Sky’s body and gives the guitar a dynamic look that is both delicate and powerful. Perfectly timed with the start of a new decade, this finish also reflects the Silver Sky’s goal to redefine what a vintage-inspired guitar can be and shift the focus to the future. “I’m so excited for this next step in the evolution of the Silver Sky. For more on the PRS Silver Sky, visit www.prsguitars.com. ### PRS Guitars Releases Private Stock 35th Anniversary Dragon Guitar The Ninth Dragon Installment Since 1992 (STEVENSVILLE, MD) January 14, 2020 – Paul Reed Smith Dragon model guitars are among the most coveted PRS models. PRS is celebrating this historic model in 2020 with the ninth installment since the company’s first Dragon model in 1992: the Private Stock 35th Anniversary Dragon Limited Edition. “When I was a teenager, I had a dream about a guitar with a dragon inlaid down the neck, and in 1992, I was able to realize that dream for the first time. It has become an important part of our history to celebrate the technology that allows us to create these intricate inlays and the idea that dreams can become reality. I really like this new 35th Anniversary Dragon,” said Paul Reed Smith. The visual star of the guitar is the elaborate, fantastical dragon inlay commissioned from Jeff Easley, a fantasy artist famous for some Dungeons & Dragons rulebook covers, who has contributed to several PRS Dragon guitars. PRS again engaged longtime partner Aulson Inlay to deconstruct Easley’s artwork and recreate it into several distinctive parts that have been embedded into the fretboard of the guitar and conclude with the dragon’s breath of fire extending onto the truss rod cover. More than 225 parts were used to create the inlay. The finished design is fashioned from a wide array of materials including: Green Ripple Abalone, Green Abalone Select, Black Mother of Pearl, Stabilized Sand-Shaded Holly, Red with Gold Vein Recon Stone, Raffir Striped Black, Black and Red Raffir Aluminum Wave, Abaloid Acrylic, Nocturne Corian, as well as Blue Pacific, Citrine, and Flame Lab-Grown Opal. The Private Stock 35th Anniversary Dragon is based off of the PRS McCarty model, featuring a McCarty-thickness back, PRS Stoptail bridge, and a classic volume, push/pull tone control, and 3-way toggle electronics layout, but with TCI model pickups from Paul’s Guitar and tweaked Phase III Locking tuners for a unique balance of vintage and modern specifications. The extraordinary Private Stock grade tone woods were hand selected for this limited series and include a curly maple top, African ribbon mahogany back, and a chaltecoco Pattern neck with a 25” scale length, 22 fret ziricote fingerboard. 35th Anniversary Dragons will come finished in Frostbite Dragon’s Breath. Choosing one of Private Stock’s Dragon’s Breath style finishes was the perfect choice for this run, with the stain sporting a lighter color (or “glow”) toward the belly of the guitar that mimics the shape of a flame shooting out of a dragon’s mouth. The smoked black hardware brings a fierce elegance to the instrument. “Looking at the final 35th Anniversary Dragon, I am incredibly proud. This guitar is PRS through and through from the fingerboard design to the pickups. I think it’s one of our most elegant Dragons yet,” said Paul Miles, Director of Private Stock. How an Electric Guitar Works While styles and models vary, all electric guitars operate on the same general principles. A pickup mounted on the guitar’s body functions as a magnetic field. When a metal string is plucked and vibrates, it generates a current. That current is transmitted by the pickup to a preamp circuit with tone controls, then through the guitar cable to the amplifier. The amplifier boosts the signal and modifies it with various tone controls and effects, depending on the amp’s design and capabilities. The signal is then output to a speaker, which converts it to sound waves. The type of pickup(s), tone controls, strings, playing techniques and other factors built into the guitar’s design influence the signal that is sent to the amplifier. In short, each component of the guitar affects how the guitar sounds.
