Giving and Keeping your word November 25-26, 2021 Call for papers GIVING AND KEEPING ONE'S WORD Commitments and reputations in French and European societies in the Early Modern Times (16th-18th centuries, including the colonies) International Conference, Rennes (France), November 25-26, 2021. Reputation was a central and fluctuating value of the early modern European societies. Subjected to the vicissitudes of rumours and even slander, it allowed people to commit themselves. As an "irresistible imperative", honour thus sealed their words by means of speech at the same time as it was brandished in order to obtain rewards and dignities (Drévillon and Venturino 2011). Honour was both an individual virtue to conquer (through bravery, masterpiece or commercial success) and a moral code specific to different orders and social groups. It therefore depended both on the identity of the person and on the information that circulated about him or her, i.e. his or her reputation. Reputation was also an exchange value: without it, it was impossible to access certain markets, goods, titles or functions. It allowed both to obtain and to distribute: a good reputation helped to acquire honours and rewards, prestigious functions, responsibilities, but it also made it possible to distribute privileges to one’s friends and clients. Reputation thus conferred credit on its possessor and allowed him/her to make commitments. In early modern times, this very notion of credit was highly polysemous and could be found in all the spheres of society (social, moral, economic, sexual), underlining a capacity for action within each of them (Crowston 2013). -

Our university is firmly rooted in Rennes and in Brittany and is a vibrant driving force, both at the regional level and nationally, thanks to the variety of courses on offer, the quality of its research and its lively arts and culture scene. The courses available to our 24,000 students include an exceptionally wide range of modern languages, with 19 different languages and cultures to choose from. The university has a truly international outlook, and has exchange programmes with 265 partners worldwide. 3,000 international students enrol each year, and most of them follow French language and culture courses with the CIREFE Centre. The university is a major player in the French-speaking world, helping enhance its influence and visibility. Rognon1 1 UFR Génétique, élevage et reproduction, AgroParisTech, Université Paris-Saclay, 75005 Paris, France [email protected] (Corresponding Author) Summary In this paper, we present the realizations of our team in the field of online training. Two categories of realizations may be considered: (i) series of online materials which constitute a consistent whole on a large topic (packages) and (ii) punctual materials on more focused topics. Some lessons are drawn from these experiences and we conclude that online training is a valuable tool which comes in addition to the work of teachers but does not replace it. Keywords: online training, animal breeding and genetics Introduction Our institution, namely AgroParisTech, provides with training at different levels of higher education: (i) curriculum for “ingénieurs” (from 3rd year of Bachelor to 2nd year of Master), (ii) Masters, (iii) PhD and, (iv) continuing education for people employed in various sectors (industry, extension services, academia, etc.). In addition, online training is under development in different fields covered by our institution. In the field of animal breeding and genetics, our team contributes to all the above levels. Among other contributions, we coordinate 3 courses or programs: a 2nd year of MSc. course: Predictive and integrative animal biology (PRIAM) [1]; an International PhD program: European Graduate School in Animal Breeding and Genetics (EGS-ABG) [2]; a national continuing education course: Higher course in animal breeding (CSAGAD) [3].The purpose of this paper is twofold: (i) to present our realizations and projects of online training, and (ii) to draw some lessons from these experiences. -

He received his PhD degree and Habilitation Diploma in solid-state physics, from the University of Lille in 1984 and 1992, respectively. He is now Research Director at CNRS. From 1982 to 1992, his research interests covered physics and characterization of point defects in semiconductors and MIS devices, physics and reliability of thin insulating films, hot-carrier effects in MOSFET's. Since 1992, he has been engaged in the field of Molecular and Organic Electronics. His current research concerns: i) design and characterization of molecular and nanoscale electronic devices, ii) elucidation of fundamental electronic properties of these molecular and nanoscale devices, iii) study of functional molecular devices and integrated molecular systems, iv) exploration of new computing paradigms using molecules and nanostructures. He was scientific advisor for industrial companies (Bull R&D center) on advanced CMOS technology reliability (1988-1990) and for the CEA in the frame of the "Chimtronique" (Chemistry for nanoelectronics) research program (2006-2013). Topic of the Speech: Smart Textiles for in Situ Monitoring of Composites Professor Vladan Koncar ENSAIT, University of Lille France Professor Vladan Koncar is Professor at ENSAIT (Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts et Industries Textiles) textile engineering institute in Roubaix, France. He obtained his PhD in 1991 at the University of Lille 1 in Villeneuve d’Ascq, France in the field of multirate control of com- plex systems. From November 2009 to November 2015 he was Head of Research at ENSAIT and Director of GEMTEX research laboratory. Professor Koncar was AUTEX (Association of Universities for Textiles, www.autex.org) President from June 2007 to June 2010. He has been promoted Doctor Honoris Causa of the University of Iasi, Romania in January 2010. Professor Koncar was Scientific coordinator and coordinator of Large Scale EU Integrated Pro- jects in FP7 and Horizon 2020 and Coordinator of National (French) research projects. He served as a Chairman of 7 International Scientific Conferences and is member of numerous Editorials Boards of Scientific Journals. The French Legal Studies Curriculum: Its History and Relevance as a Model for Reform Thomas E. Carbonneau* I. Introduction Much like a fine wine of precious vintage, the legal studies curriculum in France took centuries to reach its point of maturity. By and large, it is a product of careful molding and enlightened experimentation, although some disparity exists between its theo- retical promise and its actual implementation within the French university system. Moreover, its history is not without its share of ill-conceived hopes and retrogressive thinking. This article at- tempts to describe and analyze those events which fostered the historical metamorphosis of the French legal studies curriculum. The predominance of a broad academic -approach to law and the concomitant absence of a narrow "trade sohool" mentality in the French law schools might be attributed to the general organi- zation of higher education in France.1 The basic law degrees, the licence and the maitrise en droit, are undergraduate degrees; stu- dents enter the university law program at the age of eighteen or nineteen after having obtained the baccalaurdat (the French high school diploma).
