Of our five games, we won three, drew one and lost one, ending up in fourth place in our group, thus just failing to qualify for the upper half (the Cup) of the next stage, so we have since played in the Plate division. This is also a series of two groups with six or seven teams in each group. We have finished our six games with four clear wins, one draw, and one loss. There is still one game to be played in this league, so at the moment it is uncertain whether we will end second or third in our group. There is then yet to play two play-off games to establish the final ranking in the combined Plate division. All league games have been played away from home, on various sports grounds around the territory, ranging from Causeway Bay to Tsuen Wan to Fanling, so we get good exposure around town. With a big squad, we have to some extent rotated players around the games, although the HKFA restriction of a maximum 22 registered players calls for some challenges in this respect. In addition to the league games, we have also organised various friendly or practice games, mainly at home at the Club. Tung Chung and Maccabi Spring Festival tournament update from P3

P3 signed three new players in March and now have 65 registered players.

The regular Saturday training sessions went well with lots of coaches supporting. P3 entered three teams for the Junior Football League at Tung Chung on 3rd March, Team 1 lost in the semi-final, and Team 3 won the plate. We originally had 24 players registered for the 4 teams which made a good combination of 6 players in each team with one sub. But on the evening of 2nd March, six players pulled out due to flu or stomach bugs, so we kept four core teams, with whichever player not playing to support the team with 4 players. This may have given our opponents the impression that we were swapping players, in fact, we kept a strict core team throughout the tournament.

Other than the little misunderstanding, the weather was very good in Team 3 are the Plate winners of the Junior Football League Tung Chung and everyone had a great time.

On 4th March, two teams of 15 players went for the Maccabi Spring Festival, with a selection problem in the first game, (that) parents don’t like their child to be a substitute(s). Then the organizer informed us that one team hadn’t turned up, so we took that slot and the team was called “All Stars”. HKFC 1 beat “All Stars” 2-1 in the plate semi, but lost to a sudden death penalty against Chelsea Soccer Schools after the game ended up 0-0 after 12 minutes and extra time. Our HKFC 2 lost 1-0 in the cup final. Very good experience because some of the players had never played 5-a-side in a sports hall before. There was a lot of tears, but a good experience for all.

Wing Ding 2012 at the Hong Kong Football Club

hile it might only seem like yesterday that Photos from last year’s Wing Ding event your pink tutu, Superman outfit or Village WPeople garb was consigned to the back of your wardrobe, by the time you read this there will be a little over 6 months to go before Wing Ding 2012 is upon us. Mark your diaries – the 14th Edition of Wing Ding, that little bit of madness in Hong Kong’s squash calendar, will be held on Saturday 24th November 2012 at the Hong Kong Football Club.

Wing Ding is a fun day where Hong Kong’s squash community commemorates the life of Yuen Kam-wing, a disabled man who worked at the Hong Kong Squash Centre during the 1980s and 1990s. Wing died at the age of 33 because of complications with his illness. Underpinning the tournament is a strong community event that raises funds for the less fortunate people in Hong Kong via the RTHK/SCMP Operation Santa Claus Appeal. The 13th Wing Ding raised in excess of HK$1.5 million in 2011, and it is hoped that the 14th Wing Ding in 2012 can surpass this amount.

Further details of the Wing Ding tournament and fundraising effort will be distributed in the months ahead.

Colts Rugby: 7s Victory Caps Successful Season For U14s

nspired by the Sevens, the HKFC U14s turned on an impressive performance at last month’s Standard Chartered Bank 7s Tournament at King’s Park to win both the Division 1 Cup and Plate competitions. These victories capped a successful season for the U14s squad and Iadded to their impressive array of silverware which includes the Division 1 and Division 3 League Title, the Division 1 Grand Championship and the HKRFU 10s Cup. The success of the season was dictated not just by titles won but by how players have developed over the season, especially new and development players. Over 85 players of varying skills, sizes and abilities started the season and each of these players have made great strides in terms of individual and team performances. 10 players were selected for the NYD National tournament and 6 of those players made the final U14 National squad. “We don’t just look out for our better players but set our sights at the new and developing players who we are constantly trying to improve and promote. This allows us to build a stronger base of players and keep our better players on their toes” says U14 Manager, Norman McElhenny. A huge word of thanks must also go out to a great bunch of coaches who, with Head Coach Iain Seow, have worked tirelessly during the season to make playing Colts Rugby fun, competitive and rewarding for the players. Colman and Brian vs Boon and Lim - Centurions Finalists Annual Tournament and Annual General Meeting

Saturday 17th March 2012

his year’s Badminton Society AGM was held on the 17th March 2012. In the time-honoured tradition, the Society held its annual Club tournament on the same day and, once again, the tournament was well supported. This year’s event was Tthe best attended and probably the most keenly-fought competition so far. Play began at 1.00pm in the packed Sports Hall and the finals were eventually completed at around 6.50pm, just 10 minutes before the start Jimmy in action as David waits for the net kill of the AGM - meaning a quick dash for the showers so that the winners could themselves be presentable for the trophy presentations! We saw some fantastic badminton played in this year’s tournament and there was a competitive edge to the matches that has not been seen to such a degree before. There is no doubt that the Committee’s efforts to raise the standards in the Society through coaching and recruitment is starting to pay rich dividends and this bodes well for the continuing development and profile of badminton at the Club. Outstanding this year were the three players who claimed first prize in more than one category, namely Cheung Yu and Jennifer Lau, who together claimed both the Mixed Doubles and the Family Doubles titles, and Khoo Boo Boon who was victorious in both the Centurion Doubles Philip with Men’s Doubles Champions Boon and Matthew and the ‘blue riband’ event of the tournament, the Men’s Doubles. What is your funniest triathlon moment? Other than the bad pictures they seem to take of me round the course in every tri (they are funny!) I would say getting back on my bike after falling off in the rain in Phuket and not realising my front brakes were jammed. Clicking into my cleats then falling off again at 0mph, right in front of the course marshal. Oh dear!

How long have you been participating in triathlon? 2 loooong years
