    Florida College System Activities Association Report to the Council of Presidents February 8, 2019 FCSAA Retention Project As part of our strategic plan, the FCSAA is working on a retention project looking at the effect involvement in co- curricular and extra-curricular activities has on student retention and graduation. Anecdotally, those of us who work in Student Life and Athletics have seen the positive effect this involvement has, so this project is designed to get quantifiable data behind it. We are starting with the Athletics division because their data is the easiest to capture due to NJCAA requirements. Currently we are working with five colleges and their athletic directors and registrars as a sample. Once we determine the best method to gather the data from the sample colleges, we’ll move forward with the full Athletics division. We do not plan to separate out colleges or sports, but rather simply report data on student athletes as a whole across the state. Once we fully develop the plan and implement it in the Athletics division, we'll then move on to the academic divisions in 2019-2020. We believe this will ultimately show some very positive data regarding student involvement in activities and athletics. Academic Divisions Brain Bowl: FCSAA Regional Tournaments are scheduled for February 8-9, 2019 at: East Central: Seminole State College West Central: South Florida State College Panhandle: Florida Gateway College South: Indian River State College FCSAA State Tournament is March 28-30, 2019, at State College of Florida.     Florida College System Activities Association Report to the Council of Presidents October 24, 2019 Athletics Division – Approval Item: Eastern Florida State College Athletics – request to move to Southern Conference for all sports starting 2020- 2021. Background – Eastern Florida currently participates in three different conferences based on the sport. This move was made following the last NJCAA declaration period when five colleges moved to Division II in Volleyball, joining Pasco-Hernando and forming the Sun-Lakes Conference for Division II Volleyball. Eastern Florida agreed to split their sports between the Southern, Mid-Florida and Suncoast conferences for the good of the state and is now requesting to move back to the Southern Conference for all sports. They have followed all procedures to request the move, and it has been approved by the Council for Athletic Affairs and the FCSAA Executive Committee. Athletics re-conferencing requires COP approval. Proposed conference alignment attached. Athletics Division – Information Items: Pending Volleyball Re-conferencing – Eastern Florida’s move back to the Southern Conference will cause unbalanced Division 1 Volleyball conferences. To rebalance the D 1 volleyball structure, the CAA is sending a proposal to D 1 volleyball coaches for a North, Central and South three-conference format for the Fall 2020 season only. Proposal includes: North – Central Florida, Daytona, FSCJ, Pensacola, and Santa Fe Central – Hillsborough, Polk, St. Petersburg, State College of Florida, Florida SouthWestern South – Broward, Eastern Florida, Indian River, Miami Dade, and Palm Beach The tournament would consist of the top two teams from each conference and two at-large bids. Following the coaches vote and official CAA vote, the proposal will go back to the FCSAA Steering Committee for approval and then come to COP for final approval at the January meeting.
