FCSAA Hall of Fame

We instituted a shift in when and where our Hall of Fame inductions take place beginning with the 2018- 2019 class. Each inductee was recognized at his or her individual division banquet; our athletics inductee was able to choose his preferred sport banquet for his induction. We found this to be a much more valuable experience for our inductees as they were able to share their induction with their peers and have the opportunity to speak. The 2018-2019 FCSAA Hall of Fame class is:

Mr. Bill Hamilton, , Athletics Mr. Dallin Kelson, Chipola College, Brain Bowl (Student) Mr. Paul Cajka, State College of Florida, Brain Bowl (Student) Mr. Cecil Scalf, Northwest Florida State College, Forensics Mr. Manolo Barco, Miami Dade College, Publications Mr. Mauricio Garcia, Seminole State College, Student Government (Advisor) Mr. Mikel James, College of Central Florida, Student Government (Student) Mr. Terry Klenk, , Theatre

FCSAA Retention and Completion Project

As part of our strategic plan, the FCSAA is working on a retention and completion project researching the effect involvement in co-curricular and extra-curricular activities has on student retention and graduation. Anecdotally, those of us who work in Student Life and Athletics have seen the positive effect this involvement has, so this project is designed to get quantifiable data behind it. We are starting with the Athletics division because their data is the easiest to capture due to NJCAA requirements.

We worked with five colleges and their athletic directors and registrars as a sample. This group helped us develop the best plan for collecting the data we needed, and we have now collected initial data from 22 of our 25 athletic programs to date. The first reportable year to year data will be reported in Spring 2020. We do not plan to separate out colleges or sports, but rather simply report data on student athletes as a whole across the state. Now that we have developed the plan and implemented it in the Athletics division, we'll be moving on to the academic divisions in 2019-2020. We believe this will ultimately show some very positive data regarding student involvement in activities and athletics.

FCSAA Student Learning Outcomes

Athletics 1. By participating in intercollegiate athletics, students will demonstrate the character traits of respect, teamwork, self-discipline, cooperation and dedication. 2. By participating in intercollegiate athletics, students will learn time management skills while navigating the demands of both their athletic and academic responsibilities. 3. By participating in intercollegiate athletics, students will have the opportunity to give back to their communities through participation in community service projects. 4. By participating in intercollegiate athletics, students will demonstrate academic retention and persistence through success rates and graduation rates.

Brain Bowl 1. By participating in Brain Bowl, students will demonstrate ability to work collaboratively with teammates. 2.
