The new station roof covers in all 18,000 m2, of which 6,000 m2 in glass and 12,000 m2 in aluminium and PVC. The top of the roof, which weighs around 4,000 tonnes, was lowered into position using the largest crane in the Netherlands (2,800 tonnes), in an operation complicated by difficulties of access and the complex shape of the individual roof elements. LNG Pier at Bioko Innovative Solutions to Complex Problems

Since the discovery of oil, Equatorial Guinea has offered opportunities for infrastructures and port works. Close by the city of Malabo on the island of Bioko the Group has built an LNG loading pier.

« The steep slope made the project design very complex. Each pile has its own story. The access bridge and the pier were built ‘floating’. The entire electromechanical installation was also carried out by BESIX », explains Philippe Quoilin, C.O.O. BESIX International.

BESIX has just finished building a loading pier on the island of Bioko on Equatorial Guinea for exporting LNG. The contract was to design and build the marine facilities for an LNG terminal, including a berthing pier for tankers of between 70,000 to 160,000 m3.

It was the Group’s experience of similar work in India, Libya and Egypt that won BESIX the project. Since then a major new site has started up in the United Kingdom. BESIX Group Activity Report 2006 53
