THE HERPETOLOGICAL BULLETIN The Herpetological Bulletin is produced quarterly and publishes, in English, a range of articles concerned with herpetology. These include society news, full-length papers, new methodologies, natural history notes, book reviews, letters from readers and other items of general herpetological interest. Emphasis is placed on natural history, conservation, captive breeding and husbandry, veterinary and behavioural aspects. Articles reporting the results of experimental research, descriptions of new taxa, or taxonomic revisions should be submitted to The Herpetological Journal (see inside back cover for Editor’s address). Guidelines for Contributing Authors: 1. See the BHS website for a free download of the Bulletin showing Bulletin style. A template is available from the BHS website www.thebhs.org or on request from the Editor. 2. Contributions should be submitted by email or as text files on CD or DVD in Windows® format using standard word- processing software. 3. Sengupta2 1Department of Zoology, Gauhati University, Guwahati, Assam 2Department of Zoology, Arya Vidyapith College, Guwahati, Assam [email protected] Abstract: Situated in the northwestern part of Assam Bongaigaon district is gifted with lot of wetlands significantly Tamranga , Konara and Dalani wetland is home of 12 amphibian species under 5 family. Of which 1 species belonged to family Bufonidae, 2 species to family microhylidae, 1 species to family Rhacophoradae, 6 species to family Dicroglossidaeand and 2 species to Ranidae. Morphometric study was carried out for Duttaphrynus melanostictus. Significant variation was observed in the morphometric characteristics of D. melanostictus with its Lectotype. Supratympanic fold was found to be present and parietal ridge is absent in case of specimens of Bongaigaon, while vice versa in Lectotype. Webbing formula found to be I0-1II0-1½III1-3½IV3½-1½ in case of lectotype, where as in the specimens from Bongaigaon it is I1-1½II1½-2½III1½-3½ IV3½-1½. The word 'wet-land' tell us that they are lands that are wet. These ecosystems fall somewhere between terrestrial and aquatic categories. They are more shallow and characterized by the presence of vegetation rather than open water. -

The herpetofaunal animals were searched actively using the visual encounter survey method. A total of 84 specimens of amphibians and reptiles were obtained, comprising 75 amphibians and nine reptiles. The total number of species obtained during the expedition was 33 (26 amphibian species and 7 reptilian species). Twenty species were obtained from Batu Timbang Camp (BTC) and 21 species were recorded from Imbak Canyon Study Centre (ICSC). The updated compiled list of species of herpetofauna at ICCA is now 73 species (37 amphibian species and 36 reptilian species). A. Manasee T. Weerathunga and Gayani Rajapaksa* Abstract Background: Amphibians are one of the most susceptible groups to climate change as their development occurs in aquatic environments or in microhabitats with high humidity. Accordingly, our primary objective was to investigate the chronic physiological responses seen in early larval to adult stages of Polypedates cruciger (Common hourglass tree frog) to future climate change based on continuous exposure to elevated temperature and elevated CO2 -induced low water pH. Free-swimming and free-feeding tadpoles were observed until metamorphosis under four experimental treatments; two elevated temperatures, one elevated CO2 (reduced pH) and a control maintained at ambient temperature (29 °C ± 1 °C) and CO2 (pH = 7). Elevated temperature treatments were maintained at 32 °C ± 0.5 °C and 34 °C ± 0.5 °C to represent respectively, the future climate scenarios RCP2.6 (Representative Concentration Pathway 2.6, the ‘base-case’ scenario) and RCP8.5 (‘business-as-usual’ scenario) according to the 5th Assessment Report of the IPCC. Elevated CO2 treatment was maintained within the pH range of 5.5–5.6 representing the range expected between RCP8.5 and RCP2.6. Results: Compared to the control, elevated CO2 accelerated phenological progression of tadpoles through Gosner stages, thus resulting in lower body size at metamorphosis. Both elevated temperatures significantly delayed the development and reduced the growth of tadpoles.
