Most species also show high specificity for particular habitats, biomes, or climatic niches, seemingly rendering long-distance dispersal unlikely. Indeed, many lineages still seem to show the signature of their Pangaean origin, approximately 300 Ma later. To date, no study has attempted a large-scale historical-biogeographic analysis of the group to understand the distribution of extant lineages. Here, I use an updated chronogram containing 3309 species (~45% of http://sysbio.oxfordjournals.org/ extant diversity) to reconstruct their movement between 12 global ecoregions. I find that Pangaean origin and subsequent Laurasian and Gondwanan fragmentation explain a large proportion of patterns in the distribution of extant species. However, dispersal during the Cenozoic, likely across land bridges or short distances across oceans, has also exerted a strong influence. -

#193 REPTILE RAP 21 March 2019 LINED SUPPLE SKINK Notes on Lygosoma lineata from Rajkot City, Gujarat, India Lined Supple Skink from Rajkot City in Gujarat Reptiles are represented by 10,793 species worldwide (Uetz et al. 2018) of which 518 are found in India (Aengals et al. 2011). Of these 202 are lizards, apart from 75 species of IUCN Red List: Least Concern Scincidae (Uetz et al. 2018). From Gujarat state 12 species of (Srinivasulu & Scincidae are reported (Table 1). Srinivasulu 2013) Lined Supple Skink Lygosoma lineata was described Reptilia by Gray in 1839 as Chiamela lineata and later allocated to the [Class of Reptiles] genus Lygosoma Gray, 1828 by Boulenger in 1887 (Smith 1935) Squamata and assessed as Least Concern. Russian Journal of Herpetology Vol. 23, No. 1, 2016, pp. 25 – 34 RESERVA NATURAL LAGUNA BLANCA, DEPARTAMENTO SAN PEDRO: PARAGUAY’S FIRST IMPORTANT AREA FOR THE CONSERVATION OF AMPHIBIANS AND REPTILES? Paul Smith,1,2 Karina Atkinson,2 Jean-Paul Brouard,2 Helen Pheasey2 Submitted December 30, 2014. Geographical sampling bias and restricted search methodologies have resulted in the distribution of Paraguayan reptiles and amphibians being patchily known. Available data is almost entirely based on brief collecting trips and rapid ecological inventories, often several decades apart, which inevitably struggle to detect more inconspicuous species and patterns of abundance. This has led to a deficit in our knowledge of the true distribution and abun- dance of Paraguayan reptiles and amphibians. The establishment of the NGO Para La Tierra at Reserva Natural Laguna Blanca (RNLB), Depto. San Pedro, Paraguay allowed the first modern sustained, multi-method inventory of Paraguayan reptiles and amphibians to be performed at a single site. Despite the small size of the reserve (804 ha), a total of 57 reptiles (12 of national conservation concern) and 32 amphibians (one of national conserva- tion concern) were collected during five years of random sampling, qualifying RNLB as the most biodiverse re- serve for reptiles and amphibians in the country. Six species occurring at RNLB have been found at no other Para- guayan locality. Legal protection for this private reserve expired in January 2015 and the conservation implica- tions of the inventory results are discussed. It is proposed that the long term legal protection of the reserve be con- sidered a national conservation priority and that the diversity of the herpetofauna be recognized with the designa- tion of RNLB as Paraguay’s first Important Area for the Conservation of Amphibians and Reptiles. -

E-mail: [email protected] 3Corresponding author Abstract. Skinks of the genus Eutropis represent one of the most widespread and speciose lizard groups in tropical Asia. Numerous recent studies have utilized a variety of genes and methods to reconstruct the phylogeny of these lizards, however these studies have not resolved the placement of one of the widely distributed Eutropis Fitzinger, E. dissimilis. We have sequenced a specimen of E. dissimilis from the type locality and our result suggests that it is part of the Indian radiation of Eutropis and not related to African Trachylepis Fitzinger or Southeast Asian Dasia Gray as previously suggested. Furthermore, we report that the sequence of E. dissimilis used in an earlier study of the once cosmopolitan genus ‘Mabuya’ may have been erroneously identified and appears to be a sequence of E. novemcarinata. We also demonstrate that the evolution of a clear lower eyelid, which was considered a synapomorphy for the sister genus Trachylepis, has arisen multiple times in Eutropis. -

THE HERPETOLOGICAL BULLETIN The Herpetological Bulletin is produced quarterly and publishes, in English, a range of articles concerned with herpetology. These include society news, full-length papers, new methodologies, natural history notes, book reviews, letters from readers and other items of general herpetological interest. Emphasis is placed on natural history, conservation, captive breeding and husbandry, veterinary and behavioural aspects. Articles reporting the results of experimental research, descriptions of new taxa, or taxonomic revisions should be submitted to The Herpetological Journal (see inside back cover for Editor’s address). Guidelines for Contributing Authors: 1. See the BHS website for a free download of the Bulletin showing Bulletin style. A template is available from the BHS website www.thebhs.org or on request from the Editor. 2. Contributions should be submitted by email or as text files on CD or DVD in Windows® format using standard word- processing software. 3. Three amphibians (Microhyla nilphamariensis, Sphaerotheca breviceps, and Uperodon taprobanicus), two Gecko species (Hemidactylus flaviviridis and H. frenatus), one Agamid (Sitana fusca), two Skinks (Eutropis carinata and Sphenomorphus maculatus), 13 snakes (Ahaetulla nasuta, Bungarus lividus, Coelognathus helena, Coelognathus radiatus, Chrysopelea ornata, Dendrelaphis tristis, Lycodon aulicus, Lycodon jara, Oligodon arnensis, Psammodynastes pulverulentus, Ptyas mucosa, Rhabdophis subminiatus, and Trimeresurus albolabris), and one crocodile (Crocodylus palustris) are new records to Parsa National Park. This paper aims to highlight the understanding of amphibians and reptiles of Parsa National Park and will be a reference for herpetofaunal
