Not long after this, I participated in rewriting the OHS Reviews 44 bylaws, the goal of which was partly to establish a new Board Organbuilders 45 of Directors, along with some other structural changes, and STEPHEN HALL partly to make them simpler and easier to follow. This was an eye-opening process that helped me understand governance Obituaries 46 and structure in a way I never had before, and not just related to OHS. (Since then, I’ve helped write bylaws in two other Minutes 48 organizations!) Like parliamentary procedure, bylaws are in- Endnotes 49 tended to make a structure in which people in the organiza- tion can function more effectively together to achieve a larger set of goals. In the same way that my musical experiences with OHS intersected with other parts of my musical life and broadened my horizons in unexpected ways, the concepts and skills I have learned about governance, meeting management, and ON THE COVER organizational structure have significantly impacted my daily J.G.
