Wizardy Herbert and the Mobius Slipknot
Wizardy Herbert and the Mobius Slipknot The excitement in the air was so thick, you could spread it like custard on a crumpet. What a marvelous summer day it was to be a child, whisking through the knee-high rye, bounding over the hills with a smile challenging one’s face to contain it. What a marvelous day it was… for magic! Scampering youths contributed to a gulf of human confetti. It was a surge of robes and floppy hats, broomsticks, mops, even a few dustpans and soap buckets. Giddy young hands clutched wands, scepters, staves, rods, switches, swizzlesticks, batons, and even an uncooked strand of spaghetti here and there. A menagerie of prospective familiars squawked and murmured a generic din of animal noises. The creatures were in various states of being caged, restrained, tame, disease-free, alive, and the opposites of all those things, in many, many permutations. The children had propped up makeshift tables and set kettles to boil, as the lads and lasses were not ones for sparing afternoon tea. The shrill cacophony of whistling kettles and clinking sugar spoons barely overshadowed the racket produced by no less than four dozen impromptu cricket matches. Wicked googlies sliced through the air and laughter, much like, let’s say, an elusive winged golden projectile fluttering about, oh, a field in a fictional magical sport played on brooms. It doesn’t really matter what it’s called. Quid itching to flee pockets and purses was wagered generously on games of skill and chance. Dartboards awaited darts whizzing towards them on trajectories perpendicular to the googlies. -

Victoria Beckham: Coming to America
THIS WEEK ON 60 MINUTES SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 13, AT 8.30PM ON IMPARJA GABLE TOSTEE: THE INTERVIEW WATCH THE SNEAK PEEK They both wanted uncomplicated, fast sex, and hooking up on the dating app Tinder was the perfect way to do it. But when Gable Tostee met Warriena Wright two years ago their night of passion ended in death. Neighbours heard a drunken argument, physical fighting and then a sickening scream as Warriena fell 14 floors from Tostee’s Gold Coast apartment balcony. That was horrific enough, but Tostee’s unusual behaviour, and his apparent disregard for Warriena in the seconds and minutes after she fell, has led to public condemnation of the then 28-year-old playboy. Instead of calling 000 he tried to call his lawyer. Then he left his apartment and wandered around Surfers Paradise before buying and eating a slice of pizza. For two years Tostee has maintained his silence. He refused to be interviewed by police or take the stand during his sensational trial. Last month a Queensland jury acquitted him of Warriena Wright’s murder after they heard an extraordinary piece of evidence: his own smartphone recording of what happened. Now Gable Tostee wants to speak publicly, and in an extraordinary interview with Liam Bartlett, tries to explain his version of events on that terrible night. Reporter: Liam Bartlett Producers: Grace Tobin, Nick Greenaway MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING WATCH THE SNEAK PEEK Jerry Seinfeld is without doubt the world’s most famous comedian. He’s made people laugh for almost 40 years and managed to turn a TV show about nothing into the most successful sitcom in entertainment history. -

The thesis compares Jewish and non-Jewish masculinities in American Television sitcom characters in shows airing from the 1990's to the present: Seinfeld, Friends, and The Big Bang Theory. The thesis asks whether there is a difference between the representation of Jews and non-Jews in sitcoms, a genre where most men are mocked for problematic masculinity. The main goal of the thesis is to find out whether old stereotypes regarding Jewish masculinity – the "jew" as weak, diseased, perverted and effeminate – still exist, and how the depiction of Jewish characters relates to the Jews' assimilation and acceptance in America. -

MASTER THESIS the Impact of Gender Equality in Film Festival
MASTER THESIS The Impact of Gender Equality in Film Festival Management on the Female Representation of Awarded Film Directors Student name: Feline Koelemij Student number: 511856 Supervisor: Dr. Christian Handke Second reader: Ms. Liesbeth de Strooper Master Cultural Economics and Entrepreneurship Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication Erasmus University of Rotterdam Master Thesis Date final version: 15 June 2020 The Impact of Gender Equality in Film Festival Management on the Female Representation of Awarded Film Directors Abstract This thesis investigates the gender equality within film festivals management teams and its influence on the female representation of awarded film directors. As a masculine organisational culture create a gender gap, Hofstede’s dimensions, which measure organisational cultures per country, have been used. Both the researched film festival organisations and the awarded film directors show a gender gap, which is persistent in both Europe and North America. The film festivals which have been established earlier, seem to have more female directors and executives. Film festivals with more female employees also have more female directors and executives. All in all, this research did not find a causal relationship between the gender of film festival management teams and the gender of the awarded film festivals. Nonetheless, it did find that certain aspects of the geographical location, and the longitude of existence of a film festival affects the female representation within the director and executives’ -

Box 1346 Ann Arbor, Ml 48106-1346 ABSTRACT I offer an exploration of the work of these three contemporary novelists, focusing on the phenomenon of self-explanation - both in the sense of justifying oneself, and o f seeking to define the nature o f selfhood. I identify three roles in which (and against which) these self-explanations take place; as writers o f comedy, as Jewish writers, and as American writers. Although these roles overlap, I treat them as distinct for the purposes o f structural clarity and contextualise them by locating them in related literary and cultural traditions. I am particularly concerned with the ambivalent attitudes that these writers display towards these roles; with the tensions between - and within - their theory and practice. The thesis is divided into three chapters, framed by an introduction and conclusion.
