Starting in WiSe 2021, study places will be offered as part of the exchange program* between the OAW Faculty and the School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) of Fudan University in Shanghai.

Apply to an exchange program at the School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA) at Fudan University. You can study for one or two semesters and deepen your knowledge of modern China. This is a program for both undergraduate (B.A.) and graduate (M.A.) students.

Selection process Successful applicants will be notified by email to prepare for the second round of the selection process. They will be invited to a personal interview during 7-16 December 2020. Final selected candidates will be informed between 17-23 December 2020 via email.

Documents to submit 1. ALL students (B.A. and M.A.) a. Short CV (tabular, max 1 DIN A4 page, with an indication of the current grade point average). b. Expression of the list of all previous course achievements from eCampus. Students of the WPOA please take care (if applicable) to transfer your information from FlexNow beforehand. c. Motivation letter (max 1 DIN A4 page). d. A copy of the first page of your passport or a receipt proving the application.

2. B.A. Students e. Exposé for a study project that you would like to follow during your stay (maximum 3 DIN A4 pages) Some guidelines to write the study project The exposé for a study project could be defined as a "study plan" too. The purpose is that the student explains the aim, priorities/objectives, and expected outcomes of the study stay. For instance, why wants to apply, what relevance the program has (current studies, future academic goals, and future career), outline learning objectives and assignment schedules (e.g. Fudan courses/program if possible), how the time in Fudan will be expended in a meaningful manner, etc. The student could emphasize these, or other, aspects that considers relevant to the selection committee to prove her/his application should be selected as a suitable candidate for the program. Nevertheless, there is no one-size-fits-all approach in terms of writing style or content for the exposé as it should demonstrate the student’s ability to present a structure, well organized and substantiated argument to select his/her application.

PROMOS: STUDYING ABROAD Students may apply for PROMOS when studying abroad for one semester (3 to 6 months) at a partner university of RUB via an exchange programme of either the International Office or the faculties/institutes (apart from those universities participating in the Erasmus Programme as well as Swiss universities providing funding within the Swiss-European Mobility Programme). Eligible for funding are those projects lasting three to six months.

FUDAN ACADEMIC GUIDE: COURSES & TIMING

ACADEMIC YEAR: 2021 – 2022

Dates are not provided until the end of each Chinese semester. Calendar varies according to Chinese New Year. The following dates are approximated.

Full Semester Starts: at the end of August and ends around mid-January.

Spring Semester Starts: after Chinese New Year, around beginning of February and ends at the end of June.

Enrollment Information

Undergraduates

• The course list and schedule of undergraduates Winter 2020 is not released yet. • List of courses and enrollment instructions of this past semester and academic year for students’ reference can be found here.

Graduates

• Students could view the course list when they start to register courses in the system, and they should ask course instructors for syllabus.

Both undergraduate and graduate

• Both will be enrolled in English-taught programs. • They could also register Chinese-taught courses and Chinese language courses as long as the courses are available in the system. • SIRPA will provide students a detailed explanation on course registration at orientation session once they arrive to Fudan. • General enrollment instructions are explained in the following website: http://www.gs.fudan.edu.cn/gsenglish

Student log on - username: introduce student No., password (last six digits of the passport number. It should be noted that zero will be used instead capital letters). For those students who are able to read Chinese, they could visit Chinese web version. It could be that information is updated at earlier stage.

Notice: The Guanglan Road stop is a transfer stop, changing between four-car and eight-car subway trains. Passengers who need to transfer and continue their journey should exit here.

Accomodation

The Handan campus is the main campus of the Fudan. Please be aware that the campus housing may not be available to all applicants since there are always outnumbering dormitory applicants than the number of rooms available.

If you want to live in the Foreign Students dormitory at Handan Campus, you will need to book a room online. The Booking Time will be announced in http://iso.fudan.edu.cn.

For on campus accommodation information at Handan Campus, please visit website of Housing Department, International Students Office: http://iso.fudan.edu.cn/en/house.htm.

For exchange students without free accommodation under bilateral agreement, please go after Handbook for Registration about the Accommodation E-booking procedure. Please kindly notice there may be more demands than available rooms and therefore apply on time for your accommodations at Foreign Students Building.

Off campus accommodation

Since there is more demands than available rooms on campus and, therefore, obtain accommodation at Foreign Students Building could be challenging, here some tips for you to prepare yourself.

Fudan website suggests the following options • Tonghe International Student village (Wuong Road Lane 28, off campus, across the road to Foreign Students dormitory). Price: A room in a 3-room apartment is 70/80/90 RMB / day. The telephone number is + 86-21-65105187. They need 2,000 RMB deposit. • Hanting Hotels and Inns (Songhuajiang Road 2628, off campus, close to undergraduate living area). Price: around 140-180 RMB / day for king-size or double-bed room. The telephone number is + 86-21-61434888.

Off Campus Accommodation Registration (VERY IMPORTANT) Shanghai adopts accommodation registration management for foreign students who live off-campus. Within 10 days after your entry, within 24 hours after moving into the apartment, you will need to go to local police station to go through the temporary accommodation registration procedures.

Procedures:

1. Sign a contract with the landlord and ask him to apply for a Security License for his apartment.

2. Go to International Students Office and ask for Off-Campus Accommodation Registration Form for Foreign Students of Fudan University. International Students Office will sign and stamp the form and give the second page back to the student.

3. Go to local police station to apply for a Temporary Accommodation Registration Form (the yellow page) with your passport, copy of passport, one passport-sized photo, contract, Security License for the apartment (provided by the landlord) and Off- Campus Accommodation Registration Form for Foreign Students of Fudan University.

You will need to submit Temporary Accommodation Registration Form when you apply for residence permit. Students with F visa should also keep the form well in case of any check.

Notice: During your study here, if you change your address, you will need to go through the same procedures again.
