  • MICHAEL JACKSON : Remembering the King of Pop
MICHAEL JACKSON : Remembering the King of Pop by Valerie Mikell During an interview at the height of his career, Michael Jackson was asked, “What do you know for sure?” He replied, “I’m still learning…I can’t say I know anything for sure.” By that time, he’d been performing for more than three decades. He’d been crowned The King of Pop. He’d already released the world’s best selling album, which also earned a record-breaking eight Grammys during one show. If someone had asked him that same question little more than a decade later, what would he have replied? Reflecting on the dramatic twists and turns his life had taken, he may have reminded us that he knew he was talented. He knew he was flawed. And he realized that he was only human. Until his sudden passing at the young age of 50, Michael and the world may have forgotten that he was just a man. Much like Michael Jackson, the legends or icons we revere are not born into wealth or fed from birth with a silver spoon. They come from families filled with regular folk who work at ordinary jobs in the hopes of keeping food on the table. What is it that drives the artists and performers we idolize? Is it a need to stand out and showcase their individuality? Is it the obligation to make good of the gifts that have been bestowed upon them? Is it the desire to provide a better life for their families? Many of these things may have contributed to the success of Michael Jackson, who began his musical journey alongside his brothers and whose solo career catapulted himself to mega stardom.

AZ Insider: Katherine Jackson at Arizona Resort Villa Written by Written by Kathy Shayna Shocket Kathy Shayna Shocket has the inside scoop on the Valley's social scene and Celebrities! Kathy's latest: Where Michael Jackson's mother was amidst the rumors of her being kidnapped. While the world and Katherine Jackson’s own grandchildren were looking for her this past week- she was at the Miraval Resort & Spa in Tucson. Although there were so many conflicting reports (and why not?- even her own family was fighting over mis-information) Michael Jackson’s mother was at the resort. My sources are disputing that she was there the entire time. By the way, the private villa she was in - also affords its own butler. But... Katherine Jackson, who has just emerged to say she is safe and sound, says she was there for nine days for rest and relaxation... My sources tell me she may not have gotten much of that. And my sources say there were some very interesting “family” visitors and apparently was a lot of arguing about the family drama that unraveled. On top of that - after the emergency custody hearing, Katherine’s lawyer was asked why she couldn’t phone her grandkids and tell them she was all right. He reportedly replied that it was because the section of the resort she was staying at for a vacation didn’t have phones or computers. Not only did Katherine say something different when she emerged last night - but the luxury villa she stayed at in the resort - has a working phone as well as working wi-fi.

For Immediate Release Executors Named by Michael Jackson File Last Will in Los Angeles County Superior Court LOS ANGELES, CA, July 1, 2009 -- The last will of Michael Joseph Jackson was filed today in Los Angeles County Superior Court by the executors named by Mr. Jackson. The will, which was signed by Mr. Jackson on July 7, 2002, sets forth Mr. Jackson’s wishes and desires with regard to the guardianship of his beloved children -- Prince Michael Jackson Jr., Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael Joseph Jackson II -- and establishes the distribution of his assets. In particular, the document specifies that Mr. Jackson’s mother Katherine be declared the guardian for the children and that all of his assets be left to the Michael Jackson Family Trust, a private document not filed with the court. Executors of the estate designated by Mr. Jackson are attorney John Branca and longtime friend John McClain. Mr. Branca, a partner at Ziffren Brittenham LLP, represented Mr. Jackson from 1980 until 2006 and was hired again by Mr. Jackson prior to his untimely death last week. Mr. McClain, a friend of the Jackson family for 40 plus years, has enjoyed a long and distinguished career in the music industry. A third co-Executor named in the will, Barry Siegel, resigned from that role in 2003. Mr. Branca is uniquely familiar with Mr. Jackson’s assets, having played a critical role in building his estate through the acquisition and development of Sony/ATV Music Publishing, the Mijac publishing catalogue and obtaining for Mr. Jackson the ownership of his master recordings.

  • Michael Joseph Jackson Was Born in Gary, Indiana, On
1 Gary, Indiana ichael Joseph Jackson was born in Gary, Indiana, on M August 29, 1958. Gary is a poor industrial1 city in the northwest corner of Indiana near Chicago, Illinois. Gary had, and still has, the same problems that many cities in the U.S.A. have: high unemployment2, gangs3, drugs and crime. People in Gary were lucky to have jobs. Many worked in the steel mills4 along the southern shore of Lake Michigan. All day and all night, the smoke from the mills gave the air an awful smell. But nobody complained5 because it was the smell of jobs. Gary’s streets were lined with small single-family homes. The neighborhoods were quiet during the day but dangerous at night. After dark, the main streets of Gary came alive with nightlife. “Sin6 City” was what people called Gary. They gave it that name because it was where people from Chicago and other parts of Indiana went to do things they could not do at home. Not far from the bright lights of Sin City, at 2300 Jackson Street, lived Joe and Katherine Jackson. Joe Jackson had not had an easy life. He was born in Arkansas. When his parents divorced7, he moved with his father to Oakland, California. His father was a school teacher who expected obedience8 from both his children and his pupils. Joe learned an important lesson from his father. He learned that survival9 depended on discipline10 and hard work. He became a strict, hard-working man. When his father remarried, Joe moved to East Chicago to live with his mother.

Instead, he took a job at U.S. Steel in Gary, Indiana. The family would live there until the late 1960s in a cramped house at 2300 Jackson Street that Michael described as being “no bigger than a garage.” – After being laid off in 1958, things became so hard for the Jackson family that Joe and his brother Luther resorted to stealing leftover potatoes from a potato farm.

Putnam, Jessica Stebbins Bina, for Defendants and Respondents. ____________________ Plaintiff Katherine Jackson, on behalf of herself and as guardian ad litem of Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., Paris-Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael Jackson II (collectively, the “Jacksons”), appeals from a judgment in favor of defendants AEG Live, LLC, AEG Live Productions, LLC, Brandon Phillips, and Paul Gongaware (collectively, “AEG”) in this negligence action in connection with Michael Jackson’s (“Michael”) death. AEG hired Dr. Conrad Murray as Michael’s personal physician for a concert tour. Michael died of acute propofol intoxication while under Dr. Murray’s care. The Jacksons filed this action seeking to hold AEG liable on theories of negligence. The trial court summarily adjudicated causes of action for negligence and respondeat superior. The sole cause of action at trial was for negligence hiring, retention, and supervision. The jury found AEG hired Dr. Murray, however, he was not unfit or incompetent to perform the work for which he was hired. On appeal, the Jacksons contend that the trial court erred by granting summary adjudication, because: (1) triable issues of fact exist as to whether AEG was negligent, because AEG’s conduct created an increased risk of harm to Michael, AEG voluntarily undertook to provide protective services to Michael, and AEG had a duty arising by contract; and (2) triable issues of fact exist as to respondeat superior, because Dr.
