He misses a lot of his old veteran friends, including Mantooth. MacCOON’S LOCKER ROOM Patrick MacCoon Live in the moment

Before the blink of an eye, the halfway point of spring sports has already passed. For some athletes around town, the final stretch of their high school sports careers are nearing, a time they won’t soon forget. These are the days that will create memories to last a life- time. While sports often form unbreakable bonds, high school sports arguably create the greatest ‘family’ atmosphere. As teenagers transform into young men and women, they find out what it means to battle with a group of brothers or sis- ters in search of obtaining championships and chasing personal goals. Character is built and life- long tales are formed as play- ers’ score winning goals, no-hit- ters are thrown, walk-off wins are plated, personal record times are clocked and aces are served. Quite a few time-stopping moments have already hap- pened this season, and several teams look poised for deep postseason runs. On the soccer pitch so far this season, Cleveland (10-0-1, 3-0 5-AAA) has been one of the hottest teams in the state. A program with three teams and 58 players has bought into making the most of their chances. So far John Brose’s fifth- ranked Class AAA team has already started a trophy collec- tion, as the Blue Raiders won their first ever Cleveland Classic in nine years and also took home a Smoky Mountain Cup championship over the weekend.
