INSPIRING PROGRESS: THE PREA FOUNDATION AND SEO REAL ESTATE TRACK Recognizing the importance of diversity and inclusion to the future of the institutional real estate investment com- munity, PREA’s leadership has formed a foundation dedicated to these priorities. The PREA Foundation has partnered with Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO), which has a 50-year track record of providing select educational and internship opportunities to college students from underrepresented backgrounds.

A successful initial fund-raising campaign—now exceeding $13.2 million—has enabled the launch of the first-ever SEO real estate track, engaging underrepresented talent in the institutional real estate industry through intern- ships that extend new opportunities and change career trajectories, to the mutual benefit of student and industry participants. The initial 47 real estate interns began their work with institutional investment partner firms across the country in the summer of 2018, far exceeding the target numbers anticipated when the program was first devised.

Leaders of the PREA Foundation and SEO real estate track will provide an update during this conference’s din- ner reception. We encourage you to sign on with your support after you hear about the program’s progress. Every participant, whether an intern, an internship host, an investor support signatory, or a donor, plays an important role in realizing this initiative’s transformative potential. Please contact Gail Haynes, PREA President, [email protected], for additional information. 2019 Conference Agenda

2019DALLAS 2019 Conference Agenda

George W. Bush served as the 43rd President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 and worked to expand freedom, opportunity, and security at home and abroad. His first initiative as President was the No Child Left Behind Act, a bipartisan measure that raised standards in schools, insisted on accountability in return for federal dollars, and led to measurable gains in achievement, especially among minority students. Faced with a recession when he took office, Bush cut taxes for every federal income tax payer, which helped lead to an unprecedented 52 straight months of job creation. New free trade agreements enacted by the Bush Administration opened up American goods and services to new markets of more than 130 million consum- ers. Additionally, Bush worked with Congress to modernize Medicare with a prescription drug benefit and introduced market forces to the health-care system by establishing health savings accounts. The Bush Administration also focused on a variety of environmental issues, including efforts to reduce emissions and create the world’s largest marine protected area.

Following the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, Bush responded with a comprehensive strategy to protect the American people and wage a global war on terror. His administration built global coalitions to remove violent regimes in Afghanistan and Iraq, liberating more than 50 million people from tyranny. Recognizing that liberty and hope are the best alternatives to the extremist ideology of the terrorists, Bush provided unprecedented American support for young democracies and dissidents in the Middle East, Eastern Europe, Latin America, and elsewhere. Bush also launched global HIV/AIDS and malaria initiatives that have saved millions of lives.

Prior to the presidency, Bush served as the 46th Governor of Texas. Previously, he worked in the energy business in West Texas and, along with a group of partners, purchased the Texas Rangers baseball franchise.

After the presidency, Bush founded the George W. Bush Presidential Center in Dallas, which is home to the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum and the George W. Bush Institute, a nonpartisan public policy and leadership development center that engages communities across the United States and around the world by developing leaders, advancing policy, and taking action to solve today’s most pressing challenges. Bush is the author of three best-selling books: Decision Points (2010), 41: A Portrait of My Father (2014), and Portraits of Courage: A Com- mander in Chief’s Tribute to America’s Warriors (2017). He received a bachelor’s degree in History from and an MBA from Harvard Business School. 2019DALLAS PENSION REAL ESTATE ASSOCIATION 2019 Speaker Biographies
