Luk Nichols is from the small community of Mil- burn, Kentucky, population Luk 400. A natural born sports- man and outdoorsman, Luke Nichols loves hunting, fishing, bas- ketball, baseball, golf and 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the country living in general. WKDZ Renaissance Stage At about 12 years old, Type 1 Diabetes altered Luk’s life forever. Taking the punch and getting up im- mediately, Luk never let this slow him down. Perhaps as an expression of the hard lesson life sent his way with this chronic health condition, Luk found music as a major love of his life late in middle school. As with sports, music seemed to be in Luk’s DNA. He formed a band and began perform- ing with a group of friends early in his high school years. While earning a degree from UK, Luk sharpened his vocals, guitar and Nashville number charting skills. He gained a better understanding of music production after completing a two -year Audio Engineering Certifi- cation program at the Lexington School for Recording Arts (LSRA). As part of his education he was approved for an Internship by both UK and LSRA to tour with a band for one school semester. During that time, he played over 35 cities from Key West, Fla., to the Canadian border. It was this experience that took him to Nashville where he performed during the past two CMA Week festivities. As a result he was offered employment working as a musician, singer, songwriter in Nashville. Graduating col- lege in December of 2012, Luk loaded his guitar into the truck and headed for Nashville. You can find Luk daily in downtown Nashville venues. He has played nu- merous places such as The Stage, Legends, Second Fiddle, Swingin’ Doors, The Wildhorse, Saloon, Tin Roof, Tootsies, Rippys, Honky Tonk Central and Paradise Park. Luk also plays for private events. — luknicholsmusic.com Luk was also the 2014 winner of the WKDZ Country Showdown.

He also said the festival will probably end up being a boon to local economic development. The festival saw its share of returning attractions, contests, games and musicians. Among the new attractions this year was a pig- themed sand sculpture, which was sculpted in the Trigg County Justice Center parking lot over the course of a few days by Damon Farmer of Versailles, Ky., and gospel-based ventriloquist act Remy & Friends. X’Zashea Mayes was named the 2011 Miss Trigg County, and Aubree Burcham was first runner-up.

2012 With estimates as high as 65,000 people in attendance, downtown Cadiz was packed for the 36th Annual Trigg County Country Ham Festival. Trigg County Ham Festival Committee Chairwoman Thelma Fowler said it was, in her opin- ion, one of the largest Ham Fests, despite the storm on Saturday night, with people coming to the area from all over. The petting zoo, organized by the Princeton Optimist Club, was one of the biggest draws, along with Saturday night’s concert on the Renaissance Stage featur- ing Tim Culpepper and headliners Confederate Railroad. Bill Stevens, executive director of the Cadiz/ Trigg County Tourist Commission, estimated that the festival had an economic impact of a little more than $2 million for the county, as the large crowds which he esti- mated at 65,000 impacted the local businesses that were open, such as hotels and motels, restaurants, campgrounds and convenience stores and gas stations. Victoria Bryant won the Miss Trigg County Pageant, and Joyce Kotarek was the winner of the Mrs. Trigg County Pageant, which returned after not being featured for several years.
