And, while I have loved the gift of extra days of sun, I am also glad to have the weather moving on once more. I treasure the cycle of the seasons, and the turning of the year, with the feel of frost in the air, the berries growing on the bushes and the glorious piles of leaves on the ground with their stunning colours (and the fun to be had, kicking through them!). And I love the promise of new life held within this season, as nature goes to rest, preparing for another spring, another summer. In church too we are preparing for a change of season. November 23rd brings us to the culmination of our church year with the Feast of Christ the King, the day we celebrate the risen, ascended Jesus, glorified and enthroned with his Father in heaven. The following week is the First Sunday of Advent - the start of a new church year, and of our time of preparation for Christmas and the arrival of Jesus in the shape of a small and vulnerable baby. A baby born into poverty, and home- lessness. A baby for whom there was ‘no room’. Last month I wrote about the joy of coming home and knowing yourself safe. When God came to earth he had no safety, no home. God took himself out of safety and made Himself vulnerable in order to reach out to us, and to walk with us. To understand us, and to be understood by us. To show us what love is, and to help us see just how much we are loved. God left his home, made himself homeless, so that we might be able to come home. In all of our churches there will be many special services to enjoy at this magical time of the year. Carol Services, Christingles, and of course Midnight Communion. Do come along – you are assured of a warm welcome, and we’d love to see you. Love and Prayers Liz To an open house in the evening Home shall men come, To an older place than Eden And a taller town than Rome. To the end of the way of the wandering star, To the things
