His four Kentucky crops produced only a handful of stakes winners, led by that smart Canadian turf filly Sweetest Thing. At the same time, his South American crops continued to shine, with City West, Tapatio, El Expresivo, Eventuail, Lundy’s Liability and Leroidesanimaux all doing very well--some on the international scene. It was a sister to City West who produced the sensational Candy Ride, winner of the 2003 Pacific Classic in a record-setting 1:59.11. Lundy’s Liability came to the USA via Brazil (where he was born in September 2000), South Africa (where he won a Group 3 contest at two) and the United Arab Emirates (where he landed the G2 UAE Derby). However, his pedigree owes little to the southern hemisphere, except that his third dam, the stakes-winning Palmistry, is by the great Argentine runner Forli. Forli appears among the eight great-grandparents of Lundy’s Liability’s dam Emerald Counter, an American-bred Geiger Counter mare. Significantly, another of the eight is Rough Shod II, who produced Geiger Counter’s dam Thong. Of course, Thong visited Forli to produce Thatch, Lisadell and Special. Although Lundy’s Liability’s second dam, Conjuror, never raced, she was a very well-connected mare. Conjuror’s second dam, Foreseer, visited Conjuror’s sire, Nijinsky II, on numerous occasions, notable producing the champion sire Caerleon (French Derby), Vision (GI Secretariat S.) and Merce Cunningham (G2 Prix Maurice de Nieuil). Foreseer was a daughter of Regal Gleam, the champion juvenile filly of 1966 who also produced Royal Glint. .
